So i checked the serial number to see which week the replacement the Genius Bar gave me was made it shows 41 October

So it’s brand new? They just gave me the phone that was open in the slim white box
Yeah, it’s definitely brand new. They don’t have refurbs yet.

That said, refurbs are just as good as brand new ones. I would have no problem getting a replacement refurb.

I wouldn't accept a white box. Return it and get a new one. Factory sealed, retail packaging, etc.

Even if it is white box, it will be new. I would take a white box over nothing since they will probably be out of stock fo "new box" ones.

Does anyone know is the grey banding supposed to be sealed around the phone?, just notice that on the part where the charger is it seems a little apart and i see dust between the curve and that band.

Yup!! Just got mine delivered and mine has a hair as well. I ordered through att. Should I just contact apple?

My replacement , for the hair issue, had another problem, the grey band that holds the oled screen is separated on one corner at the bottom.... if you shine flash on it you can see it’s seperated and dust had gone in .. compared to the other parts which are sealed

Here is a picture of mine. I am calling apple now to hopefully get an exchange. I was reading this post right before fedex knocked so it was the first thing I looked for.

Check the seal around the phone too the band that holds the screen to se wig it’s loose , my replacement has that problem

Omg I’m so mad. Both my wife and my phone have dust under the camera lens!

just dust or hair? I'll play around with my phone for a few days to see if other issues surface ... if it's solid otherwise I might keep or get swapped at apple store ... so far the hair as zero visible impact on pictures but it's telling for how Apple's QC has slipped over last few years... my 6 had the exact same issue + 2 dead pixels and i got it swapped

My closest Apple store put a phone aside for me to go and switch out tonight due to the hair issue. I will update on how my replacement is.

We’re twins! except for the hair, I have a speck of what looks like metal, I was able to knock it to the very bottom. So, unless it messes with the cameras it’s probably not worth the hassle.

If mine wasn't dead in the center I probably wouldn't have cared much either honestly.

Not sure why everyone is always so sure there's zero chance of a device replaced on launch day being refurbished. They've been building - and rejecting - these phones for months by the time launch day rolls around.

I would almost guarantee you they have already refurbished a bunch of the early rejections before launch day ever hits.

This is why a "white box," if anything, might be even better than a retail boxed one. More thoroughly inspected, and still new. I went through several 5S's due to display issues -- two retail box replacements still had issues, but the white box one I opted for next was absolutely flawless in every way.

Wtf. The white box ones are brand new devices. Just not marked for retail sale.

Yeah and then your original receipt would have a serial number not matching the phone. You'd have a WO# or something extra. This would complicate things like Visa extended purchase protection. They could say the phone you tried to warranty was not purchased with the card and therefore ineligible for purchase protection.

YMMV depending on store I guess but my Apple bought iPhone X exchange went smoothly. They verified the issue, apologized and luckily i was able to get a brand new and sealed replacement. They said if they didn't have it, then they would just have me come back in a couple days to get a new sealed replacement.
