you might want to try a new username. I'm on my second one too. I added Skype on my first one and it crashed every single time. So I just started a new user name and all seems fine now.

that did the trick, still, I found a bug, it only crashes when trying to connect to the icq network, I deleted the icq account and since then it hasn't crashed even once.

Another bug seems to be that when being logged into skype on let's say you laptop, you can't receive a skype call. After I quit skype on my macbook it worked.

Still needs a lot of work, but for a start, not too bad.

Voicestick with Fring

I downloaded the Fring app from the app store and tried to setup my Voicestick account using the sip setup in Fring. I keep getting that the username or password are wrong when they are correct. Has anyone been successful in setting up Voicestick as their sip account in the Fring iPhone app?

In a house...duh!
I was having every Skypeout call terminated immediately last night when I was messing with the App.

Then today I tried something different.

I had tried the 001 in front and the +1 in front of the number and that didn't work.

Then I thought about the fact that I'm already logged into my Skype account on my Macbook. I know when I'm logged into my Aim Account on my Macbook and have the fring App open on my iPhone my Macbook comes up with a message that I am logged onto the account on two devices.

I quit Skype on my Macbook and then manually dialed my home phone number using a +1 in in front of the area code....bingo....rang through after about 4 rings on the iPhone.

I don't like the idea of having to do the +1 but in the real world I will only rarely use it for phone calls. I really wanted it to chat with my buddy in NC when I didn't have my Macbook with me.

Later!

Steve

I emailed them about two problems. The first is bluetooth support, which I don't even know if they can fix. The second problem is the most important. Number formatting in Skype. I have numbers that look like (555) 555-5555, 555-555-5555, and 5555555555. However, unless your number is EXACTLY like this, +15555555555, it won't work. So, I emailed them with that and hopefully they will adjust it to disregard everything besides numbers and add a +1 to everything that doesn't have it. This is exactly what the actual Skype program does.

However, other than those two problems, I think it is great for using my Skype account to call VOIP over WiFi.

Not everyone lives in the US, adding +1 to everything for those outside the US would cause us problems.

Working with Asterisk

I've seen several people asking if fring is working with Asterisk. It's working excellent for me. I've had an Asterisk server for many years now and i've been waiting for a sip client for the iPhone that I could use with my Asterisk server. I created a new sip extension for my iPhone and added that to fring. Registration was quick and I was able to make and receive calls easily. Everything seems to be working with my internal extensions as well as calls out the various trunks I have configured. Finally ... SIP on my iPhone. Now I can call internationally anywhere I have wifi.

Anyone tried with Asterisk PBX??
Yes. It mostly works, but sometimes outgoing calls are immediately terminated. Pressing Home and reopening fring seems to fix the problem. I haven't had a chance to turn on debugging in Asterisk to see if I can find out why that happens.

A big problem for me is that there seems to be no way to send keypad presses in a SIP call.

Glad Fring is here, but it'd be nice to be able to use 3G as WELL as Wifi...hopefully a future update will include it.
Using Skype over 3G would be trying to use your wireless provider's network
without them getting paid for the call ... no cell phone provider is going to allow that.
And don't forget that if they own the network, it's their network, and as long as they don't violate
your privacy rights, they can control the content on their network all they want to.

Wirelessly posted (iPod touch 32GB: Mozilla/5.0 (iPod; U; CPU iPhone OS 2_1_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/525.18.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1.1 Mobile/5F138 Safari/525.20)

actually three in the UK give you 5000 skype to skype minutes free every month on all their tariffs

That is exactly why the Puritans/Pilgrims left Europe in the first place!!! They were sick and tired of Skype trying to undermine their cell phone network billing! You don't have to believe me though - look it up in the history books.
Haha. Actually, I've been to London, Brighton, Dover, and had a flat in Woking (Surrey) for about a month back in 1996. I loved it there. Very nice country. The castles and stone roads are awesome! Maybe someone over there can take an iPhone photo of "Mind The Gap" and post it in the iPhone photos of the day. :)

should work with the new iPod Touch and a Mic.

arn

Has anyone else tested this? I did at the store and on a iPT privately owned. It appeared to me that the mic recognition has not been enabled in the iPT. In other words this does not yet work.

? It's like the second search result in Google.

Course I don't jailbreak, so I don't think this will work for me.

Oh well.

I made a Skype voicecall last night using fring on my iPhone for the first time. The delay was awful- it was around 2-3 seconds. The volume was also very low- it was very difficult to hear. It was a very frustrating conversation. We gave up after around 5 minutes.

Anyone else experiencing this? Is this par for the course with fring?

Sorry, I didn't post the link because I am not sure if it is allowed to post those here. The app is free but it is same as any cracked ipa.
Maybe a moderator can clarify?

It's disappointing that this app still has such poor implementation after such a long beta period for jailbroken iPhone. Here are my frusterations:

  • The contatcs management is terrible. They need to be grouped by what service you want to use (i.e. skype contacts, AIM, phone, google, etc...)
  • Skype out and SIP are useless. It is not possible to have a conversation with a 3-5 second delay.
  • I can't register if my email has a 'dot' in it??? (I know gmail doesn't care)

I waited for this app for awhile and still have hope for it I just thought many problems would be fixed by the time it was released in the app store. I haven't been able to use it on any other platform but anyone who has, does skype out and SIP work well on it? Is there the same delay on nokia handsets for instance.
