It was the day after the new moon last night, so it's a 3.7% waxing crescent moon. This is how it looked as I picked up my 15 year old daughter Francine from indoor soccer practice.
Francine even commented she could see the moon outline still, I informed her that's called "earthshine", as it's actually light reflected off the earth , onto the moon .

Yeah, I cheated and did a composite. I cheated a lot. I still like it. :)

It won’t hold up to close inspection, even in the larger version, but it works okay on small screens.

Last night and again tonite we in the northern hemisphere have a crescent moon with Venus close by. I hope we have clear weather to see the pair.
