well, if they lower the price back to the iPhone 7 plus,
I am sure their stock will raise to a new level .

If that were true apple wouldn’t need a retail or online presence in China. They would only sell to distributors.
But that is not happening, is it?

Do you only think in binary terms? Apple obviously wants to hit every sales and service channel available.

As an example, Suning is a big retailer in China. With 10,000 stores, they are about ten times larger than Best Buy in the U.S. or Carphone Warehouse in the U.K.

The regular price of the iPhone XR 64GB is 5,188 RMB ($770) inclusive of VAT. No one in the right mind in China is buying an iPhone from the Apple Store.

That’s the thing thing with absolute statements. Nothing binary about it.
In China, the MSRP serves as a price ceiling. No Chinese consumer expects to pay MSRP. As a result, official Apple prices act as a high mark.

As an example, the iPhone XR 128GB is sold for $850 inclusive of VAT in China. This reseller has sold over 1.4 million units. The reseller is obviously not taking a loss.

The OP was referring to the 6S & 6S+ comparing this to today's XR and XS Max

The pricing has risen like this - Apple’s current low tier model (XR), is the price of the then smaller version high tier model (6S).

The XR, feature wise, is a way off today’s higher tier models, when compared to the 6S versus the then ‘higher’ model (6S+).

Although the 6S+ may not have been as huge feature bump compared to the 6S, it still had rear camera OIS, better battery & screen resolution over the 6S, so it was clearly the better specced of the two.

All this doesn’t change the fact that Apple has gauged customers by shifting the XR up a price tier & elevated the XS/XS Max to new ‘game high’ price tiers.

Considering the new OLED/Face ID tech introduced in 2017 smartphones, you can maybe understand why they did it.

But my main point was that those prices shouldn’t be retained once OLED/Face ID tech matures.

It’s a shame they have & an ever greater shame Android manufactures have followed suit.

It’ll only last so long though as all manufacturers are seeing their sales decline bit by bit each year. I think increasing prices was a short term solution to plugging the hole and maintaining profits.

The XR is doing well because it’s priced right. I don’t think Apple are going to be able to milk the stainless steel, OLED marketing guff for too much longer though.

I just hope when XR goes OLED that pricing doesn’t change too much as Apple would be undoing the good work on how they have clearly priced this correctly.

Priced what correctly? XR?

If so, I disagree.

They’ve fooled the public into thinking the XR is a great price, when in actual fact it’s the price of what a high end iPhone should be.

That doesn’t matter

The market has decided that’s the right pricing...apple are selling a ton of the XR devices so clearly they have priced it right compared to the other flagships...

I disagree with the bolded. I don’t think Apple fooled anyone on the price with the XR, not when their marketing has been at least 90% or more of the ‘trade in value’ for an older phone towards the XR, which reduces the price of the XR to begin with (Also, you didn’t explain why you think Apple ‘fooled’ the public into thinking the XR is a great price). In addition, For what the XR is offering compared to the XS, I think $750 is ‘a lot of phone’ for the money.

I mean, if you break down the XR versus the XS, the price difference obviously is $250, not to mention, the only features the XR is really missing is the [dual camera, 3D Touch and OLED panel], which I wager to believe that the majority of consumers don’t really care about, which leaves the price of the XR to be _more_ attractive knowing that.

Well, consider my view as an objection to the market then (Won’t be the first nor last time) :D

I think Apple gambled & put the wheels (of deception) in motion in 2017, when they released the X. Then, when the public bit, they knew 2018 was the year to stagger pricing in a way to make the XR appear it was a bargain.

Compared to the higher (boosted) tiered iPhones, the XR appeared decent value for money, but when weighed up against their prior generation line up, imo, it’s inflated unnecessarily.

I don’t think you can fool anyone. I wouldn’t buy the XR because it had some compromises I wasn’t willing to accept so I got the XS max. Those that buy the XR are happy with the display and don’t care that it doesn’t have 3D Touch or a second camera. You can’t be tricked into buying anything. Everyone looks at the price, looks at the product and then decides if they think it’s worth it.

I'm referring to Apple's 'long game' as oppose to 2018 price structuring.

They planted a foundation in 2017 with the X, & the rest is inflated pricing history, in both the IOS & Android worlds...

Wheels of deceptions? What does that even mean?
The entire public bit? That’s not what happened with the iPhone X.

There was so much controversy regarding the notch, Face ID, and it’s price. For the first six after launch every journalist and analyst called it a flop.

No idea how you can call that wheels of deception, whatever that means.

The xr is great value, sales have proven as much.
