I've followed MacRumors and these forums for years looking for decent "inside" information on things and have appreciated all comments regardless of members statuses.
I guess if deciding/trying to be a part of the "inside" is going to be like this, I'm not sure I want to be a part of it.
I'd take floods of "newbie" information over skeptical, judgmental internet trolls any day.

In short, yes. Amount of skin in the game increases credibility. Lack of input detracts from it. Seems pretty basic.

Skepticism isn't a bad thing, especially when people's hard-earned money is at stake AND IT'S THE FREAKIN' INTERNET. We've been around a while and have learned to spot when posts and accounts seem suspect. I won't apologize for seeing something that fits the pattern. Some can take this for what it is, and some--it seems--take it personally. Thing is though, we aren't the ones name-calling.

Not really. Having actually lost a lot of $$$ buying cellphones online before (scammers are abundant), I don't think so. Anyone with any internet awareness knows that it is a risky business and anyone starting a company reselling phones should know this.

Amazon is even getting infected with this very thing - 3rd party sellers who buy reviews by the thousands to make their products/companies look good. I've seen it on Ebay where sellers buy reviews for awhile only to scam, paypal freezes their account but not before they make off with thousands upon thousands. I was one buyer who didn't get all of his money back when a seller basically took off with $10k+ and by the time Ebay/Paypal did anything, we all got basically nothing back.

New posters posting about this company is highly suspect. If I had longtime forum members posting about this company and how great it was, I'd put 500 times the weight in what they say vs a brand new forum member, with a profile pic (most brand new forum members don't do a pic).

That said, if this company is legit, time will show this. Right now, time is not on their side. Eventually it will be if they continue the course.

All these wise forum members are trying to do is to protect vulnerable forum members from losing $. As someone who has lost $ at the hands of companies just like these, I nod to @willmtaylor @Applejuiced @Newtons Apple and @Mlrollin91 (in this thread).

It wasn't obvious to me. Brand new forum members posing as customers? That's still highly suspect in my book. What company have you created a brand new account on some forum you've never been to, to support the owner in posting about the company? I sure haven't.

Yeah its harsh but it is also harsh to lose a $700 phone to a scammer.

If this company is legit, time will tell. Reviews will show it over time.

Edit: I hear you tho, it is sad that this has to be done.

This poster didn't come across as real to me. They only posted in this thread, got very upset quickly, and then disappeared.

I disagree. I don’t think that was obvious. The poster quickly worked herself up into a huff, then left. This, if anything, shows she was most likely a sham and not legit.

Nothing, from what I can read, was “piled on mercilessly.” Facts were stated and multiple veteran members warned others based on evidence and experience. There were no personal or ad hominem attacks.

The only poster escalating the situation was the one who’s legitimacy was in question.

That still doesn't convince me at all. This company is highly suspect to anyone who has any experience doing business online for any length of time. If you want to give it your business, go for it. But I would have a hard time recommending it to people I care about.

1 valid person creating a new account on a forum to defend the owner of a company isn't going to change a lot of people's minds about a company. It's actually kinda suspect. Most people don't do this of their own free will.

When was the last time you or someone you know had a good experience with a product or company and said, “You know, I’m going to do a Google search, find a place to talk about this thing, and register a new account just to praise them.”

Everyone who posted here is a real person. Fact is, we don't know if they have an affiliation with this gadget site, and are not going to take their word for it, when they are brand new. Same reason "real people" can't buy/sell in the marketplace, or access other parts of this site until they have a history and credibility with the site.

New profile here. I recently got the Iphone X. I googled a few places for trade in. Stumbled across Gadget gone, and they were willing to give me the most money for my Iphone 6S. I did some research before sending it in and decided to go with them. Talked to the Support team on October 30th (ran into some issues receiving new phone, so shipped mine out later) On the 20th of November they picked my phone up from the Post Office (their website says they will contact you when the order is received) I was never notified. Two days go by and no response (Thanks giving is coming up) I send them an email asking how long the process takes, No response. November 27th (1 week later) I emailed them again asking out the Order. Never Received a response. The following day I see the President's email on the BBB Email him and no response, but finally receive an email back from support team saying everything cleared and they would be mailing my check out today. I will keep everyone updated on how it turns out. I was getting nervous especially after seeing the thread. Hopefully they are a good company, we will see!

I have had great success with Gagetgone--I have sold them 2 iPhones and a watch--if you have a question email them--they usually respond quickly during the week.
It sometimes may take a while for them to get your check out--However I opt for the eCheck and no worries about the Post office.

I even sent them the cases I would no longer use. Didn't hear from them. Finally I contacted them and they replied with a photo of a damaged Iphone and told me they couldn't pay the price they had quoted. I was livid and told them to send the phone back, that I didn't want to do business with them.

Today I received the phone and looking at it with magnification it shows a BLOW or HIT in the frame that caused the adjacent corner of the glass to crack. The hit looks like it is new and the phone shows no other damage.

I swear this has not happened while in my possession and as you will see from all the cases it has always been well protected.

I would NOT trust them.

I have used them selling 2 iPhones and a n Apple watch and had wonderful experience--the only time I ever had trouble was with Gazzele.
Gagetgone is my favorite.--I always have them sen me an echeck.
One iPhone I sent them I thought was a 5--turned out to be a 5s so they gave me even more money.
