I'd certainly expect the Note 3 to hold up better considering the difference in build materials--plastic will flex much better than aluminum. I'll be curious to see how the Note 4 holds up to the same test with it's metal frame.

All that being said, yes, metal, especially a softer metal like aluminum will bend at certain levels of stress. I'm still finding the story on MR's front page hard to believe and doubt we are getting the whole truth. He'd have to have some significantly small/tight front pockets (he was wearing a suit, not skinny jeans--none of my tailored suits are skin tight or even close) and having a phone that large in such a tight pocket would get uncomfortable pretty damn quick--much less 18 hours. In the stress test video, the 6+ bent but it still took a significant amount of pressure to do so, far more than a pocket would cause.

I'm not discounting the fact that the device may be more susceptible to bending than other phones because of its build materials and shape but a little common sense also goes a long way.

I disagree, I bet this will be a lot more common. I'm 5'10", very low bodyfat, and if I wear regular fitting jeans my Note 3 digs into my hip and flexes a bit if I sit in a fairly forward position such as my car. It's not uncomfortable to my hip, I've grown accustomed to it, but I definitely feel that bit of pressure in there. I think my measurements are fairly average here in the states, maybe slimmer/more muscular than most but my height and leg to torso ratio is fairly average. Once again this is with regular jeans, maybe from Guess or something with a regular fit, nothing tight as I'm 43 and the tight thing doesn't work for me.

I agree about common sense as well, it's a high ticket item and the consumer should be responsible for it. But at the same time I think the vast majority of men at least are going to want to put this in their front pocket.

The guy that did this test did a follow up video with the note 3 and dare I say it won :-/

Yea anything related to apple gets blown out of proportion for sure.

The s4 strains in my pocket similar to your description, slacks, with no case, I don't know how you guys do it!

Very interesting. The Note 3 is a beast in terms of durability. I find it a bit alarming that people are putting the "quality" moniker on something simply because it's made of thin aluminum/metal. What they really mean is "quality feeling", which is ok, but not necessarily the same thing. Others may define it differently, but quality to me is how much abuse and daily wear and tear the device can take.

No I much prefer the notification panel on android. I find the ios one quite poor.

And once again that see that at the end of the day it is really about opinion.

I do wonder why you think that? Maybe in ios7 but in 8 you can reply within a notification and opt out of group iMessage notifications per group.

Agreed, the changes in iOS 8 improve the Notification panel immeasurably. The one thing I would like added to iOS that has been present in Android is the 'clear all notifications' option.

Well, I guess time will tell then. You and I are very similar (size, age, and apparently choice in clothing ;)) though I will admit my clothing are generally closer to regular/loose than fitted. I always carry my 6+ in my front left pocket (and nothing else :D) so I guess I may be the perfect test subject. That being said, I don't find it uncomfortable in the slightest but I also don't keep it in my pocket too often while sitting--predominantly for quick access (docked in the car, on the table when sitting, etc).

I don't doubt that these bent phones are legitimately bent, I just don't think they will bend as easily as some of these posts/articles are contending either. Again, watch the bend test video and you can see he has to apply pretty significant force. That amount of force from a pocket would be uncomfortable.

Well, build quality and durability are two very different thinks. Something can be very well made and put together with top notch materials, but still not be that durable.

Again, not making excuses but I think it's important to separate the two. I personally find the build quality and materials of the iPhone superior to the Note 3, but will absolutely concede that the Note 3 is the better choice for durability. The iPhone is admittedly more delicate. It's certainly going to be a compromise for some.

It's good that they have gotten rid of the missed panel. Having there panels was pretty wasteful.

Kudos on dressing well, hehe. Yeah I take my phone out of my pocket as soon as I get in the car and pop it into my Kenu holder. Part of the reason is I have Waze on 100% of the time when driving and cannot live without it.

After having just gotten back from fondling an iPhone 6 plus in store I did give it a bit of bending pressure while no one was looking. It felt pretty solid, I'm still not sure if I would worry.

But I have a feeling this is more of a time/heat/friction kind of thing where if it's sitting in someones pocket for a long time with pressure on it, then it may bend. I don't know, but it's NOT like it's flimsy or you can easily bend it with your hands, although I didn't apply anywhere near the force in the video. But a small amount of force over an extended period of time, maybe with some heat and friction thrown in there, and maybe repeated bendings as one adjusts their seating position might be enough to cause the bends.

Build quality, yeah I thought the iPhone felt more premium than the Note 3 for sure. Durability I'm not sure though. The things that stick out in my mind on the iPhone 6 are 1) bending, and 2) scratches, neither of which I have to worry about on the Note 3 to a much larger degree. Of course I don't know about things like drop tests, water ingression, etc etc.

Well, you might have to get used to a small amount of that durability compromise yourself on the Note 4 soon. Welcome to fun world of metal (framed) smartphones. ;)

...... yes, this is a joke. What are the odds in these phones even remotely selling out? Slim to none I'd say. I work with a bunch of Android fans and I love rubbing this in their faces. lol

Just don't like them get near your 6+ when they go into a rage, I hear Apple's making them awfully pliable these days :p

I may actually pre-order the Note 4 this year. Samsung will give a 200$ rebate if you turn in any used smartphone at time of sale if you preorder. I got a used/old worthless smartphone on-hand so it makes it probably worth it for me to do.

I have now gone and looked at the 6+ a couple of times in the store. To me, it honestly looks and feels great. Not to big, especially having used the Note 3 this past year. But what I honestly can't seem to get over is that it doesn't let me do anything different than my iPad mini does, or that the smaller, easier to use iPhone 6 would do etc. I really wish Apple would have put some more extra functionality into the thing. Something more than just a landscape view. And the one-handed implementation of just bringing the top down when you tap the home button is worthless to me compared to how it works on the Note. I mean, what if I want to text with one hand, how does that help me? It is not shrinking down my keyboard at all. I will still have to extend my thumb from one side of the screen to the other. Really Apple? Help me out here.

I want to like the 6+. I really do. I may still get it. But I just haven't fully convinced myself yet and luckily the Note 4 will be available to get anyways before the 6+ will be at this point. Can't get it for shipping till November and good luck buying it in stores till then either.

Same here, really not impressed with Apple not doing much at all to make use of the larger format. Definitely leaning towards the Note 4 right now. But will withhold judgement until I've had a chance to test both devices.

Phone trade in quote from carrier must be $10 or more, fyi. iPhone 3GS 16GB was only 5$ from AT&T, unfortunately. If you're on AT&T they will give you straight up $200 credit for an iPhone 4, which mine was only worth $50 when this promotion is not happening, so it made it a better deal. I won't get any credit from Samsung that way, but oh well!

Yeah I saw that. Found a phone that they say is worth 10$ to get for the trade in for 38$ used. Gonna try that one I think and hope it works out. Also, I went to BB and spoke with the phone specialist there and looked at their site. They do not have the 10$ limitation with their deal. Phone has to be working and include battery and charger cord. They give you a 200$ gift card in store, so you send nothing to Samsung.

I think the note 4 will do well but it's naive to think the 6 plus won't take some customers away. The real contest begins with the 6 plus s next year. You should see some real advances with the extra real estate.

Actually, there might be a real scarcity issue brewing. Samsung is dropping the Note 4 earlier than planned in some markets to try and stop the iPhone 6+ from eating up chunks of market share.

I can see this move having global availability ramifications.

Lol I think they will. Samsung mobile is already struggling. The 6 plus will only make it worse. I really think sooner than later the plus will outsell the note, depending on how many countries will sell each. The U.S. definitely.

Why camp out for the note 4? Are they expected to sell 10 million in the first weekend?

Who knows, they sold out in Korea for pre orders. Apple will always sell more no matter if it's a poorer device or not. US sales do seem to be the best place for Apple though.

Can't always go by sales……..that can be misleading. Plus the Note 4 has more features and functionality than the iPhone 6+.

Android phones outsell IOS phones worldwide and have the lion share of the mobile market. Does that make them better according to your analogy?
