From what I have seen it is perfectly fine on the S6. That said TW isn't a reason not to go with the note line to me. The positives completly outweigh the bad.

Mediocre battery life
Terrible resource management
RAM refresh issues

Seems perfectly fine to me . you can slap a coat of lipstick on a pig with a beautiful screen and nice hardware as Samsung does but slow updates and the worst skin on any line of Android phones unanimously amongst most users says otherwise.

But different strokes for different folks. Some have hardware like a nice screen and stylus hold more weight.

Seems many don't have the issues you report to have. If a phone lasts a day then thats good battery life to me. I have never had ram issues either but I guess it depends on the model.

For me It's more important what a phone provides than anything else. I certainly couldn't go back to a system where I have just apps and no easy access like widgets or making a phone how I want it.

That said I will always stick with the note line...couldn't go smaller.

Cheers to that and that is what works for you:)

It just stinks beautiful hardware phones like the s6/edge/note 5 are ruined by a software experience with the the things I mentioned in running across and numerous others here and around YouTube/xda.

Only thing that bothers me is the sometimes lag on the messages app when I go to type. It was an issue on 4.4 not so much on 5.0

Thats the only thing that drives me mad..I always use Nova but I understand issues still remain even on other launchers

Any news about non-replaceable battery? That would be a major bummer.

Stylus?

Stylus will always stay...I imagine the design will be like the S6. Surely they can't put glass and metal on the S6 and keep the fo leather backing.

Note 5 still have Touchwiz?

I'm out!

Note 5 still have Touchwiz?

I'm IN!

Seriously, I've never seen an OS that has the sheer amount of functionality that Touchwiz has. It has its quirks, no doubt about it. But no other Android flavor even comes close to it.

I am with you. ....sure TW could use some improvement. But it's still is pretty good to me. Sense 7 is very nice buy lacks some functionality that TW has.

Stylus?

If not replaceable I would just not buy.
Battery life on my Note 4 is good but not great : 10 to 12 hours, 3 to 4 hours screen on. It used to be better 6 months ago and I shall buy an extra battery to cope with long days out.

Do people actually use the Samsung skin? Surely Nova etc is the first thing everyone installs. This removes alot of the annoyances of TouchWizz visually at least.

I thought I saw somewhere recently Samsung commented on how the removable back of the Note series was part of the phones appeal and would be staying. Man I forgot where I saw that though.

Edit: Here's what I was reading, they were talking about the Note 4 so maybe their line of thinking will continue into the Note 5. Personally I could care less about removable battery but will definitely miss the SD card.

According to Samsung’s designers, the Note 4 omitted a full metal body over fears the handset would be too ‘hard and cold’.

“The designers have been aware of people’s desire for a metal frame. However, using metal material just for the sake of using it didn’t make much sense,” one of Samsung’s lead designers said via an official company blog post.

They added: “One thing the designers did not want to do was to use metal and give out the sense that the device is too hard and cold.

“The soft cover allows the user to change batteries, which is also a big part of the user experience of the Galaxy Note 4.”

The only thing that I don't like about the Note 4 is the finger print reader.
If we are to assume the Note 5 will have the same finger print sensor as the S6, then I will have to get one. Let's hope there are more improvements to sway me further.

Yeah, touchwiz is not perfect. But, if you take the time to learn it's functionality and not just say they're gimmicks, it is pretty functional.

Nova launcher + the Note (Note 3 for me - waiting on the Note 5) = great smartphone.

Its not just the launcher or the gimmicks that give Touchwiz a bad name, its the design throughout the OS (notification shade, text messaging app, phone mailer, ect…) and the performance hiccups that come with touchwiz, along with the gimmicks that give Touchwiz its bad rep.

To be fair, the latest touchwiz has improved quite a bit, I like the design for the most part, except for the colors used, and performance has been much better, still not as good as stock or sense, but much better when compared to Touchwiz in the past. They seem like they're on the right track now.

Never had those issues on the Note 4, nor am I experiencing that on the S6. My apps NEVER refresh, unless the app is written that way for security purposes, like some banking and brokerage apps.

Some users experience issues on all platforms and brands. But with the exception of certain specific devices, the majority don't experience those issues.

I'm back to the Note 4 as my daily driver! Missed the larger screen. Love my S6 but man that screen is just too small!

Ha, me too. The Note 4 really ended up being a hell of a device. Keeping the S6 around as backup?
You know what they say about great minds :D
I am not sure I will keep it. Really enjoying having the N4 and 6+. They really compliment each other. I am enjoying the larger screens right now. Looking forward to looking at the LG G4 and seeing what Google does with the Nexus line at I/O in a couple weeks.

You know, I never had a problem with TW on my Note 4 UNTIL

Lollipop. Now there is just that too long lag when apps launch, key strokes on the password page, etc. I finally had to bite the bullet and use Nova for the launcher. It is a bit snappier now but the unlock is still painfully slow between when I touch the key and when it registers on the screen.

Still gonna keep it for another year. I need to get the full use of this thing since I bought it outright but overall I have been VERY pleased with my first phablet and it is FAB-let.

sometimes after a big update you might need to do a reset to get things straight and start from scratch with the upgrade already inplace at the start.

Yep. Especially moving fully from Dalvik to ART runtime. Best to start with a clean factory install and load your apps back in a fresh IMHO.

How does your aluminum frames look like, as I read on several forums they are wearing of and scratching very easily...?
