Right now I'm trying to decide between the SGS5 and the Note 4. After a few days considering all options I think those two are the safest bets (although not my favorites...).

I can buy the SGS5 new for 450€ and second hand for 350€ in second hand shops.

The Note 4 will probably be around 700€ at launch, and price will fall very quickly after 2 or 3 months, but I won't wait that long.

I like the better build quality of the Note 4, the OIS and better battery. Bigger screen would be nice for playing games, although I don't find phablets very comfortable. It also has 3GB RAM and no waterproof (I don't like the annoying USB cover).

I have no use for the S Pen.

SGS5 is already available everywhere and at a great price.

Just curious, why doesn't Samsung use that cool notification system HTC uses where it just lights up the notification to take up almost no battery instead of turning on the entire screen? I was just at the mall and was the first time I saw one of those HTC cases with all the holes, I didn't realize you can answer a phone call with that case still closed, talk and everything. Very neat. This is something OLEDs can do right? I wonder why Samsung doesn't do it.

@ that price. No way in heck would I pay that much for a case

Strange that there is such radio silence from samsung on the note 4. They spent the whole summer building this crescendo of hype. They debut the phone to universal praise. Now here we are weeks later, and we don't even know what it costs, or when it will be available.

The wireless customer has the attention span of a fruit fly. You need to strike while the iron is hot. Had they put out a preorder as fast as apple, there may be a note headed my way instead of a 6+.

Couple more weeks.

I think it was smart of them to wait until the initial iPhone frenzy wears down. Once everyone is sick of hearing about the new iPhone, that's when Samsung starts rolling out their marketing hard which will be late this month and Oct.

For what it's worth on un locked mobiles they say they expect stock on 3rd of october

Ever Taller iPhone

Taller than the Note but with a smaller screen and fat bezels top and bottom....no thanks.

Dude you are seeing it wrong, the volume of a device is the new parameter to compare the size...
Seriously, the 6+ is even longer than the Huawei Ascend Mate 7 with a 6" screen.

I agree. As I've always said if would be foolish of samsung to try and compete with the fanatics at this point. Let people break the servers, crash the Apple website and sleep in tents outside the Apple store. After that has all died down Samsung can start their own onslaught with the support of the carriers who would have already tried to push the iPhone on people and will be happy to try and push something else.

Complete agree with the first part of your post. I'm curious though why you think the carriers are going to all of a sudden try or as you put it, 'be happy' to push something else? The carriers in the US don't give a flip what device you buy as that's not where they make most of their money and I'd guess, the differences in margins are significant. If you are willing to sign on for another two years, or just commit to a plan with them, they're happy to sell you whatever you'd like.

And it certainly may be different in the UK where I know Android has a stronger presence but in the US, the fervor surrounding Apple devices doesn't just all of a sudden disappear. A friend of mine manages a large AT&T store and he said sales are heavily Apple and Samsung and that iPhone sales stay steady all year. When I went to check out the Galaxy S5 a few weeks after its release, he said that 5S sales were still about even with S5 sales. Even after the S5 was released, guess what the first display inside the front door was? It wasn't for the S5...

In the UK they will go with whatever is the newest device and try and push that for a while and run adverts. However by default if you go into the store and you don't know what you want they will push you towards and iPhone or a Samsung galaxy device.

Sounds pretty similar then. I asked my friend how some of the less popular OEMs do and he said at least 9 out of every 10 sales are Apple or Samsung. Sadly HTC, LG, and Nokia are also-rans for the most part. Even when they try to have customers take a look at the others, too often they end up back with Samsung or Apple.

If I ordered the iPhone plus on three now it wouldn't ship till 10th October anyway which is when I would get my note 4 chances are so just because you can order now it doesnt mean much
