Was on sammobile, will see if I can dig it out :)

About 90 seconds in or so they launch dialer, contacts, messages etc and you can see the new flatter interface. This is a very early build however - so that should be taken into account especially regarding peformance. There are a few laggy moments where app loads a bit after the press.

That's really peculiar Game...don't understand how a battery would affect this and not also the rest of the device. Was it only on the Back button and not the Recents?

Could it be more likely that there's some type of loose wiring/connection that was jostled when you put the new battery in to re-establish the proper connection? Did you swap them repeatedly to confirm it only occurred when that first battery was used?
It was on the multitasking button too.

The battery I'm using is fine. I will try my other spare later once this dies and see if it's the same issue as before. Maybe was just a minor ertor

even more interesting. Thanks for the info!

How do you find it? Is battery good?
Great

I've been getting at least two hours more on screen time than on my note 3

To me...the N6 is too wide to hold in my hand. The N4 is just perfect......
Looking at the pictures of the side by sides. The N4 and OPO are narrower and easier to hold.

Ya, I think the Nexus 6 will be a truly two-handed device, whereas the N4, 6 Plus etc. are totally fine to use one handed a lot of the time. The money question will be if the extra screen real estate is worth that tradeoff.

Absolutely agree.

I had a Nokia lumina 1520 for a very short period of time. The six inches screen as gorgeous... But it a huge phone. It made the iphone 6 plus look small... And I find the note 4 easier to handle that the iphone.

Honestly... The note 4 doesn't seem all that big at all... I have absolutely zero problems using it one handed.

Not sure the 1520 is that good a comparison with the Nexus 6 though, it's a much more unwieldy device due to much larger bezels and those sharp corners. Really a different world than the Nexus 6, I think.

I like the fully Lollipop-based apps, but those L notifications kind of tacked on to the TW style looks a bit harsh IMO...there's something a bit Frankenstein's monster about it...

With the iP6 and 6 Plus out there now, the Note Series will no longer be seen as the "big" phone or obscenely large any more. Against a 4 or 4s and even someone a 5 series, it looks big but not anymore.

Yeah, it's pretty funny how the paradigm shifted pretty much over night with the arrival of the 6 Plus. :D

Android L coming to the N4 in November?

Is Android L coming to the N4 in November?

That the Galaxy Note 4 will get an update to Android 5.0 Lollipop, and will be among the first Samsung phones to do so, is something that’s set in stone. But could Samsung be working on updating the Note 4 to Lollipop much faster than it has pushed out major updates in the past? The company has tweeted about the Galaxy Note 4′s Quad HD display, and the tweet shows an image of lollipops on the phone’s screen. Now, Samsung could simply have used this image because of the excitement around Android 5.0 at the moment (thanks to its very recent official announcement), but it could also be a hint that the update will arrive sooner rather than later.

We exclusively revealed earlier that Samsung is aiming for a late November/early December release for the update, and the company is already testing the latest version of the OS on the Galaxy S5, something we gave you a peek at recently. Samsung’s tweet is a good indication that that time frame could indeed be correct, though as always, we would caution against getting too excited, especially given how major an update Android Lollipop is.

What do you think? Is that tweet just a marketing gimmick, or could be hinting at something we will all await impatiently over the next couple of months?

Got to hope so. It only helps Samsung to speed up updates. Motorola is the gold standard in that area.

So umm, how are people liking their Note 4's?

Love it! Returned my six plus for it and I don't regret it a moment.

Never been quite this smitten with a phone before. Thought the iphone six plus would do this for me.... Nope, note 4 all the way.

Thats the way I felt about the IP6.......it just did not capture my attention for long.....

Just been offered a retention deal on the Note 4.

Free phone, £25pm, 4gb data, unlimited everything else.

Even at those prices I refused. However, I am tempted to call them back and accept. Just need to see the handset again before committing.

Same here. Neither iphone 6 nor Plus did it for me. Both are too large for their display size for one thing. I will not go any further cause sooner or later this thread will get crapped on if I do but NO ONE can dispute the size of those devices being too big considering their screen size. :)

That's an amazing deal. £600 over the space of 2 years which is less than samsung are selling them for, and you basically get free airtime. I'd snap their hands off!

You got to go with what you like....but that's an a amazing deal for what is either the best of second best phone on the market, depending on your platform choice.

can some one with the note 4 confirm that the 128 gb micro sd card from sandisk 48mb/s version is working in the note 4 without no errors , and if it does will i be able to use 128gb or jus 64 gb as it says the note 4 is capable of , i am thinking of buying the sd card before the phone as the phone here is out november 7 so i need to know if it works ?

Are you sure the capacitive lights didn't get turned off somehow?

On my Note 4 I noticed the lights were not coming on. I didn't think I changed it in Settings but sure enough they were set to off.

I did try out ultra low power mode to see what it was. I wonder if that did it.

It wasn't switched off no but I did use ultra power saving mode. I have it on now so will see after I switch that off

Yea it would be interesting to find out if that is it.

I just have a hard time believing a low battery would cause that. Those buttons likely draw hardly any power so it would be odd. I know that when battery is like at 5% my Note 2's screen would go very dim to save power. I don't remember if it also disabled the lights on the capacitive buttons. (My Note 4 hasn't gotten that low yet.)

As expected it switches off when using ultra power saving mode though

Anyone seen any premium looking back covers for this thing before I commit. On another inspection today I still feel the Note 4 looks cheap and ugly vs the Sony z1, z2, z3 and iPhone.

Motorola are the gold standard for Updates? Surprising as I owned an Motorola xoom before and it was a nice little tablet, but the updates were shocking.., us UK/EU guys got the updates like 6 months after the US devices did.
Also still waiting for my note 4, hopefully it gets shipped tomorrow, not holding my breath though. Especially as clove just put their date back AGAIN to the 31st.

No...I am not talking about the motorola of the past. I am talking about the motorola of the last few years. The moto x, for example, got an android update before a nexus once.

The old motorola sucked at updates...so did everyone one else.

Its a mater of taste.

I think the note 4 feels better than my 6 plus did. Yes it has "leather-like" plastic on the back...but it feels good, and the metal side feels great. More importantly...it is very sturdy...i don't worry about it in my skinny jeans...etc.

Display Variance vs True Blacks

This is MacRumors, so let's get OCD for a minute.

TL;DR Summary:
Basically my display has a fairly noticeable brightness/gamma gradient from top to bottom. It doesn't really impact normal phone usage, but you see it as a white point shift. In video, black crush is visible on one end of the display.

After discovering the gradient I found threads complaining about this issue on previous devices with AMOLED displays. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2463786&page=5

It is apparently a common variance in the display tech, and if that's the case then maybe it's worth it for the incredible black levels and color gamut? Both of those aspects are very impressive.

-----------------

I was testing out the device yesterday and noticed that it seemed a little bluer towards the bottom. I'd seen this on a store display model too and at both times I wrote it off as white point variance, which you'll also see on most IPS panels.

Later in the evening I was in "inverse" mode (white on black) reading some forums when I noticed that the dark grey boxes that were part of the forum interface (would be light grey in non-inverted mode) were disappearing in the bottom 3rd of the screen. Uh oh, time to go to the display tests.

What I found is that the gamma and brightness were both different in the bottom 1/3 of the screen. While all squares were visible on the lagom.nl black level test in the top half, towards the bottom I'd lose as many as the first 9-10 shades of dark grey. It wasn't just black crush as the gamma was clearly higher (darker) on this end as well. High res images (like the ones included on the phone in the gallery) confirmed that near-black detail was being lost in the bottom 1/3.

This is extremely obvious with solid color backgrounds. Doing fills at various grey levels on Sketchbook makes it pretty obvious if you have a significant gamma gradient.

Before I go any further I'm going to repeat that this is not a big issue for any kind of normal usage. In general what you see (on white) is a slight color shift which looks a lot like the variances you can get in LCD panels. The only reason I'm even looking at it this closely is because the OLED black levels are so impressive (better than my Pioneer plasma) that I might actually watch video content on this screen, something I've never done with a phone before. As a result it's getting the same treatment I'd give a TV.

So here are some images. First you can see what looks like white point variance on a bright screen (of course on camera it's more apparent that this is a brightness variation; I didn't initially pick this out as a brightness issue):
auF5bvV.jpg

And now a dark grey which highlights the black crush:
jxn8Bw3.jpg

It's not unlike something you could see on a plasma TV actually. A high end PDP wouldn't have that much variance and it would be a peak brightness that changed instead of gamma, but I just think the fact that the panels have a similar type of variance is interesting considering the similarities between the display technologies.

I can't say anything about how common this is, and I'm also not suggesting that it's a good reason to exchange (as I mentioned the effect doesn't bother me in normal, non-video usage). The display is otherwise quite impressive and I've really been enjoying having access to a Wacom digitizer at all times.

Basically take whatever you want (including that I'm being obsessive) from this. I just felt like presenting the information in a place where over-analyzing details is generally accepted.

Well, AT&T cancelled my 9/21 pre order, after officially back ordering it... wtf? I plan on going to the store eventually and at least getting not only the $200 trade in value for my iPhone 4 which I expect they nullified after they cancelled my pre order, but hopefully additional billing credit for the hassle.

I am not surprised. Do you think this would have ever happened with the iPhone launch?

Screen Protector

Anyone have a good screen protector? I have been trying to order on Amazon but 90% of the glowing reviews are from before the Note 4 was out. If I filter newest first it seems very different: ill-fitting, doesn't factor in the curve of the glass on the edges, etc.

I don't think I need one of those tempered glass protectors--they seem to have the most trouble fitting at the edges.
