I experience major lag when I press the recent app button. Do you guys also have this? It's ridiculous....

It's not lag per se - more of a weird, animation timing delay. If you enable Developer Options, you can turn off the animation scales and zoom around with no delay.

Anyone here have the Exynos variant? How's battery life for you?

Yep, I do. I'm getting great battery life, on par with my S5 roughl, depends on what I do.

I get home from work with 50-70 percent, then it up to half an hour on charge to 100.

That's with moderate use, I do have to get some actual work done lol, but battery life just keeps getting better on my subsequent newer phones.

Love this phone, all my niggles seem to be website specific now, nothing to do with the phone itself.

The camera is awesome, the screen is unmatched. Life is peachy.

I'm relatively new to Android, so don't know how to... :

1. How do I hide the keyboard when done typing and I need to free screen space (without submitting the text)?

2. How to undo typing?

I'm using Samsung keyboard.

1. Press the Back soft key.

2. The Delete button should do this. Do you not see one?

Yeah just click the back button.

How/where do you make this setting change?

Thanks.

Strange... Mine opens instantaneously with the animation scales set to 0.

Anyone else seeing lag in opening the app switcher?

Is there anyway to add additional apps that can be used in split screen/flyout window mode? Is there a way to do this through rooting, etc.?

Thanks.

Go to Settings -> General -> About device -> tap "Build number" repeatedly until you enable developer mode. You will now find developer options right above About device.

Disable animations by Developer options -> set the "animation scale" to off. I did it on all three because I have yet to figure out exactly what the difference between the three is. If you want the fastest transitions between apps where they pop in instead of zooming in, turn them off. Cheers!

Cool about Back. As for undo, I meant undoing a large chunk of text pasted in the wrong place. On iPhone you can at least shake it (a weird solution, imho - imaging a writer shaking the phone whole day - but a solution nevertheless).

The recents delay is not helped by lowering or turning off animation settings

Yeah the recent apps does take a little bit to open, and does not relate to the developer options. I noticed that too but I don't use it that much... I'm not a big fan of the app switcher implemention on Touchwiz. What I strongly would recommend is using SwipePad it is sooo cool and pwns iPhone IMO.

Someone said it is due to the multi-use of the recent task button (i.e. the long press to open menu). So it has to wait for the timeout delay for long press. So if you lower the long-press delay in settings, it should lessen delay. Havent try it since I am using another task switcher.

I've never experienced the 2-3 second delay that some people have mentioned. At worst it's 0.5 seconds, but that's rare and doesn't ruin things.

In my day-to-day usage I'd say it takes about twice as long as when I press the back button (which is pretty much instantaneous). It's certainly nothing like what MKBHD showed in his review video.

The app switcher was great in the note 3, but they ruined it the note 4 with the overlapping tiles. Now you can't see a full snapshot of each app anymore.

That may have been me. I did suggest that may be it. But in thinking about it that doesn't make sense: the home button is very fast and it too has a long-press trigger (Google search). The home button is helped by getting rid of the double tap to load S Voice, however. So logic would say that the system will wait bit for a double-press but not for a long-press.

I think it must be due to the tiles. Odd since she system saves app screenshots when you switch away from an app--this should make it able to load those tiles fast. You can verify by tapping a slow-to-load link in a browser then quickly pressing home. Wait a bit, then press recents. You will see the browser tile as it was when you switched away, whereas if you go back to the browser you will see it has been busy loading that link.

Presumably those screenshots are at the full res of the Note 4's screen. So with a lot of apps open it has to gather up and resize each screenshot to display them. The delay seems to get longer with many apps in recents.

It's possibly those who think it is fast are manually closing apps or otherwise removing them from recents. This would make recents open faster. But I found my Note 4 is more stable, generally, if I let Android manage the apps.

This was also my concern at first. But I actually like the overlapping tiles better now, cause even though I can't see a full snapshot, I can see the partial snapshot much closer. I do wish we had an option to select between the two though.

Is it me or are there even less apps that support multiwindow now? I could have sworn that Twitter and Polaris used to be supported, but not anymore..it's a real shame and I'm not sure I want to go through the hassle of rooting

I'm bummed because that was the way I multitasked. I could peek at the app manager and see a phone number to enter in, instead of having to fully switch back to the app containing the phone number. I really dislike the new app manager, it's tough to see at a glance what you have open and you have to read the title bars which slows me down. And as a long time denier of lag, I must say that the app manager at times takes a full 1-2 seconds to open, that is extremely annoying when you are trying to multi task and are forced to switch apps instead of seeing a snapshot.

Yup, The Note 4 definitely has problem with lag when tapping the recent apps button. I don't have that lag anymore, but did experience it the first several days, and heard too many others complain about it.

Sometimes when I swipe down on an app I accidentally turn it into a pop out window, though I have no idea how I am doing this. What is the technique for swiping an open app into a pop out window?

Thanks.

What did you do to reduce this lag?

Swipe down from the top in a diagonal motion from either the left or right sides.

I didn't do anything that I know of. Basically, the more I used it the less lag would show until I noticed no lag.

I can say that is wasn't the OTA update or being rooted. Cause the recent apps lag stopped before that.

I do remember disabling the double tap home for S-Voice. Even though it's a completely differ button. Who knows if that affected the recent apps button. Worth a try.

How strange. I've also got s voice disabled but still notice lag.
I think it has to do with how many apps I have open, as if there's only 1 or 2 it opens almost instantly. When it's bogged down with 20+ there's a noticeable lag.
It's not a deal breaker or anything but it is mildly annoying if I'm in a hurry to do anything.
