It's funny you should ask. I use both 6+ and N4. I use one as my daily driver until I get bored with it or just miss the other phone/OS. Right now I have been using my 6+ for a few days. They are both great phones.

Do you notice a difference regarding the battery on both and screen on time?

Sorry I didn't answer that the first time. On my N4 I usually from 4-6 hours SOT depending on what I am doing with that screen time. The 6+ really doesn't give you that kind of breakdown.

Fed up with the note 4 now?

I'm not quite fed up, just a bit annoyed and I kind of expected more out of it, both with hardware and software. It's still a phenomenal phone, just not worth the upgrade from a Note 3 IMO. Honestly the only thing holding me to it was the stylus.

coming from a Note 4 that I had used before i returned it within the return policy ended and now switched to the 6 Plus, I can easily say the 6 Plus gets a bit better battery life with more On screen time, and also the standby on the 6 Plus is defitnetly alot better then the Note 4, but iPhones have always been superb with standby time and usually class leading

If memory serves..... It seems history repeats itself. Didn't you go through this exact same thing with the last couple of flagship phones?
Anyway gotta find what's best for your needs and wants.

What kind of time were you getting then?

Best thing about the note 4 is the battery lasts over a day and I always carry a spare. So really I have over 48 hours worth of battery life on me at all times

But Android does, so we can look at it in reverse fashion. With respect to iOS, the total time at the top is 'Standby', and Awake equates to 'Usage', and therefore equal to Screen On Time + Screen Off But Active. Here are my Note 4 battery stats for a typical day on the left (mostly browsing, a few quick calls, reading, music, the odd video, light gaming) vs heavy usage on the right (more video streaming, longer duration gaming, longer phone calls):

I haven't found the perfect phone, which of course doesn't exist. I really like Apple's hardware this time around, I just bought my wife an iPhone 6 and it's pretty sweet. But iOS is such a horribly basic OS I don't think I could stand to use it for any length of time. Throw in the digitizer/stylus on the Note which adds to my lack of direction.

Agree that iphones have always had decent standby time. But how do you know the SOT is better as ios doesn't measure this ?

Guys,

over at XDA, I've been posting a lot of tips on getting the best possible image / video quality from the camera of the Note 4. Unfortunately, using third-party apps for this is essential.

I've just posted a full comparison of

- Camera FV-5 (in both jpeg and png output mode) 2.24
- Snap Camera HDR (5.6.1 only available as a test APK - do NOT use earlier versions as they 1, don't support 4K video 2, don't make full use of the excellent OIS of the camera by decreasing the shutter speed to 1/8s. Please read THIS thread for more info on properly configuring the app to record valid 4K files.)
- the stock Camera app

to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=57169980&postcount=2353

Note that I haven't included the open-source Open Camera in the test (current, tested version: 1.21.1). However, I did make some test shots with it and found out that:
- 4K video recording isn't supported
- the minimal shutter speed is 1/15s; that is, you lose an entire EV by not going down to 1/8s.
This means I, currently, don't recommend it for Note4 users: again, these two problems are pretty major.

Do any of those apps handle macro shots? my note 4 refuses to take extreme close ups, it says "subject not found" when I go into manual focus mode. My note 3 was crappy at macro shots as well.

Macro distance is about 5cm (just tested this with both the stock Camera app and Snap in auto mode). I don't think the optics is capable of less (1-2 cm) distance.

I'm talking about maybe 2-3 inches. Not sure what the best mode is, but manual focus doesn't work.

Just sold my Note 4 and switched to 6+. My main gripe with Note 4 is the software itself. I am not sure if its android or touchwiz but the overall usability is nowhere close to iOS.

For instance the finger print sensor with corp email is totally pointless as after swiping it still asks you to input the code(what's the point of having finger print sensor in the first place?). There is a fix for it but it needs root which would mean I lose my warranty(tripped knox).

I can basically give a very solid estimate with SOT on the Plus, I get over 4 and a half hours easily on LTE with SOT, and when i am on wifi I get more then that

That would be Touch Wiz. Because pure android 4.4.4, and especially 5.0 now, have a smoothness and pleasantness of UX that ios 8.x wishes it had. Yes this is my own humble opinion, but it's based on being a former ios user 2008-2014, during which I made plenty of fun of android's then-clunkiness.

But no more. For my use, I think the android side has taken over in OS UX/UI, and a few hardware manufacturers have at least caught up with Apple hardware design and UX.

My mistake, it's "selective focus" and now that I have a chance to read the disclaimer when you go into that mode it says that objects need to be within 1.5 feet from you. Apparently it's an effect that focuses the foreground object to make it stand out more.

I haven't found a manual focus yet. Being unable to do macro shots is a downer, I was unable on my Note 3 as well. Hopefully it's user error and someone on here can tell me what I'm doing wrong. In automatic mode when I go to take a picture of something close up, say 2-3 inches away, the camera refuses to focus. What's frustrating is that it goes in and out of focus repeatedly, and when it goes into focus for half a second it's focused beautifully but it won't stay focused for the shot.

What kind of light conditions were you shooting in? Because I've found that the better the light, the closer you can get.

There's no purely manual focusing as is done in iOS8 (in third-party apps only, including mine - an open-source one - that was available in the iOS8 forum here until my thread was removed by the sometimes over-active moderation) or Nokia phones with Nokia Camera Pro. All you can do is enabling macro mode, where it'll try to autofocus in the macro area.

This means it still works in exactly the same way as the "macro" mode of most digital cameras - it'll have a much higher focusing speed but you still won't be able to directly control the distance it should focus to. It focuses automatically.

This is a restriction of pre-Lollipop Android. There is no way of pure manual focus.

Where do you find the Macro mode? I'm only seeing beauty face, shot & more, rear cam selfie, selective focus, panorama, virtual tour and dual camera.

Also does lollipop android include manual focus mode? Does this even affect the Touchwiz camera app, or will we have to use the stock google on in the playstore?

In most third-party apps. For example, in Snap, it's under three dots > Photo > Focus Mode.

I don't think the stock Google app will offer full manual control. At least the current (pre-Lollipop) version is like Apple's stock Camera app: severely dumbed-down with very few settings.

I'm tempted to do the same!

Thanks. What's snap? Is that snapchat? Any other camera app that has manual focus that anyone knows about?
