Haha I hear you The note 4 is reported to be quite great indeed, but do we really need to go further? I'd rather they perfect other aspects of the display, rather than resolution

Or put all that effort into battery life! I am all for pushing boundaries and getting the latest and greatest tech stuff. But right now smartphone batteries need to last a couple of days with heavy usage.... oh and i what bendable foldable screens too! :)

I would think another concern would be app compatibility and the larger size of apps that do try to be compatible with these ever increasing resolutions.

Honestly after the galaxy s6 release I am pretty set on the note 5 being my next phone but another meaningless bump in resolution (unless you are one of the 0.1℅ of people interested in VR) would make me reconsider. I'd at least be waiting 2-3 months for long term reviews.

Everything scales up for the most part. I've never had an issue using any app on my Note 4, even very old apps. I'm kinda siding with Samsung on this, VR is supposed to be huge and they want to jump on that bandwagon.

So was 3D & 3DTV. If you can't convince masses to wear a pair of glasses, how do you convince people to strap a plastic box to their faces.

Then look at families... Now convince each member of family to have a Samsung Flagship phone alongside their plastic box strapped to their face ? Totally inappropriate and unrealistic.

VR this way will remain nothing but a niche and a very small niche at that. Can not see it gaining traction as a mass consumer endeavour - ever....

I think I am going to sit out the Note 5 and iPhone 6S+. I am sure both will be great, but after getting the S6 Edge, gotta keep my phone for awhile since I sold my Note 4 + put in some of my own $ for it, so it should last me awhile.

I think it will be a good sell for gaming, heck video card companies like ATI and NVIDIA make a pretty good living. I agree for the family/living room crowd it's not going to do well, but there is still a lucrative market out there.

Got the Note 3 on launch day on a two year contract so the Note 5 will be my next handset

Not worried about a ridiculously high resolution display affecting the battery life. Each year the screen res gets higher yet battery life seems to improve!

I just prey the phone looks as nice as the S6 edge. I'm more than willing to shell out the premium for a 128GB edge Note 5 :)

Sadly battery life got worse with the Note 3 than it was in Note 2. 720p display was pretty great for battery life!

And now the Note 4 gets better battery life while pushing better screen resolution than both the N2 and N3. Technology evolves.....it does not stand still.

I cannot dispute that as I have no evidence either way but from my own experience, battery life on the Note 3 is superb. Then again it's the first Note I ever owned.

I recently bought a new battery for it and it made a substantial difference to how long my phone lasts. Batteries degrade so slowly that you don't notice the degradation in the first place but it is there. New battery only cost me £20 too

Wow...over 700 PPI on a phone? Jesus...I wish companies were improving battery life at the speed they were improving screens.

I think there is nothing that Samsung (or any phone OEM) can do to improve battery life dramatically without battery tech itself being enhanced.

As we all love a bigger battery, the core battery tech must undergo changes before we can really see dramatic differences.

Unfortunately, Samsung is in the cutting edge game and they can't wait for battery tech to catch up.

I see no reason why display tech should slowdown for battery tech to catch up. Forward!

Can you imagine the online rage if the Note line has less battery life and no SD slot and battery???

Looks like Samsung are heading that way.

No Sd slot on new Samsung would be interesting to see android fans reactions and what they say about apple all the time e about non expandable storage lol

Currently using a Note 4 and it's a great phone. But as we all know apple does what the Note does, just a little different :)

I'm not sure about that, taking into account the resolution jump from the note 3 to note 4 and the battery life remaining equal if not better I'd say that's a fairly large jump. I might not call it "dramatic", but IMO it's significant.

If the next Note is really 5.89", I wonder how big the phone in general will be. The bezel on the bottom might need to be made about S6 size if they're adding the better fingerprint sensor. Also, I have to wonder how well the Exynos could push UHD.

Same type of ppi affects on battery life comments towards the S4, Note 4, and the latest S6. And I haven't had any issues yet with battery on any of those devices. I think the Note 5 battery will be just fine with 748 ppi.

Well the Nexus 6 should give you a clue? That device totally covers the Note 4.
I think the Note 4 screen is big enough really, no need to make it any bigger.

Here you go, Nexus 6 next to the Note 4:

Where did you hear that? I hope they don't make the Note 5 any bigger.

It's interesting because this is exactly what people said before the Note 4 was released, but the Note 4 has stellar battery life at least equal if not slightly better than the Note 3. I think we just have to trust that Samsung knows what it's doing, they haven't disappointed yet IMO.

I would say battery life of Note 4 isok, definitely not stellar...
