Samsung wants to steal Apple’s iPhone 6S thunder by announcing the Galaxy Note 5 in July [RUMOR]

Samsung typically waits until summer months come to a close to announce the latest Galaxy Note phone each year, but new rumors suggest they could be pushing the announcement and launch of the device much sooner. Korean outlet WhoWired claims to have knowledge of plans for Samsung to announce the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 in July, a full two months sooner than their usual launchpad of September’s IFA event in Berlin.

“Why,” do you ask? Well, Apple’s refreshed iPhone 6 — which should be called the iPhone 6S if history is anything to go by — will be out by then, and you can bet Samsung doesn’t want to give Apple a two month window to reveal and launch a new smartphone without having something of their own to show off.

The source suggests Samsung has already finalized specs for the Samsung Galaxy Note 5, though there’s still no clear idea of what we can expect. We can at least expect it to one-up the Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge as Samsung typically uses the Note series’ launches to introduce their latest ideas and innovations. If word of its impending announcement is true then it won’t be much longer before we’re let in on all the juicy details.

With 128 and now 512GB SD Cards I really hope the Note 5 keeps the SD card slot. Or has an edge or non SPen model with the SD.

Can not see there ever being a Note without S-Pen - it kind of makes the even the very name of the product 'Note' redundant if it isn't accompanied by a pen.

More than the removable storage and battery - the S-Pen basically defines that product. Without it - its just a big Galaxy.

Agree with all that. But that is not what I meant. They could release a 5.5 or 5.7 phone with the same build as the S6 only without the S-Pen if it is the reason they could not include the SD card. Because the pen takes up room on one side of the phone.

Oh yeah - I suspect that S6+ though will only be asia/korea bound. But knowing Samsung we still have a S6 Active and an AS6 mini and more to come before the year is out ;)

The Note 5 will be great like past Notes. The question is when will Samsung debloat Touchwiz to get rid of annoying qwerks to the point it will be acclaimed? Screen flickering, delay in gmail coming in (at least with emails compared to my iPhone 5C and iPad), etc piled together made me realize that I prefer iOS to it. I still have a Moto G as my android device since I picked one up from Best Buy for $25.

Right on schedule to counter Sony's choice to steer clear of the emerging USB Type-C trend for the time being, reports have surfaced stating that Samsung is to implement the new interface in the upcoming Galaxy Note 5. It's worth noting that it will support USB 3.1, which may have become synonymous with the Type-C designation, but is in fact a distinct standard.

The obvious convenience of the reversible plug aside, having USB 3.1 Type-C on your phone means transfer speeds up to 10Gbps with compatible devices. The pair of standards also brings support for 1.5A and 3A currents for improved power delivery.

gsmarena_005.jpg

Industry insiders have also revealed additional key specs of the future high-end phablet. Screen size will be increased to 5.89 inches, though the rumored jump to 4K resolution is not going to happen, the sources claim. The increase in display diagonal comes with a decrease in thickness, and the new model is tipped to be 7.9mm thick, compared to the current Galaxy Note 4's 8.5mm profile.

Battery capacity has been quoted at 4,100mAh, a significant upgrade over the 3,220mAh of the existing model. A further improved version of the S-pen stylus will make it to the Note 5, though it's unlikely someone has expected that a headline feature of the lineup would be retired. Android 5.1.1 is the OS version the phone in development is currently running.

So far the consensus is that the smartphone will be powered by an Exynos 7422 chip, a modified version of the 7420 found in the current Galaxy S6. The speedy UFS 2.0 memory of the flagship will also be carried over to the larger model.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 5 is more than likely going to become official at the IFA in Berlin this September. Plausible as all of the above may seem, there's plenty of time for things to change.

More rumors supporting the USB Type C port for the Note 5....

Samsung is not due to launch the Galaxy Note 5 before September this year but already there are countless rumors and reports about what we can expect from the company’s next flagship device. A new report claims that the Galaxy Note 5 is going to have a USB Type-C port, a first for the company’s mobile devices, which will exponentially increase data transfer speeds to and from the Galaxy Note 5.

USB 3.1 Type-C offers a transfer rate of 10Gbps which is double that of the much more common USB 3.0 standard, Type-C cables also offer 20 volts and 5 amps of power as opposed to 5 volts and 1.8 amps of its predecessor. This means users won’t have to wait for as long as they previously did for data transfer and charging. Another major advantage of USB Type-C is the fact that there’s no “right” way to plug the cable into the port, it’s reversible, so users don’t have to fiddle around with the cable. They can plug it straight in and be on their way.

Samsung will unveil the Galaxy Note 5 at IFA 2015 in Berlin this September. The handset may feature a 2K or 4K Super AMOLED display with S Pen, an octa-core Exynos 7422 processor and possibly a 4100mAh battery.

S6 is the next best device on the market until the Note 5 comes out. Just didn't have the patience to wait.

I really see it this way, the 6+ owner in me has to be very impressed with the 6S+ or Note 5 to make a switch. I am done with Samsung until they get fast updates and better customer service.

The build for the N5 needs to be just like the S6 but with a sd card slot similar to the sim slot. I think it also needs to have an enclosed battery as well with enough mAH to get the job done.

Hmm, I wonder if this means the end of miniSD card capability. The excuse of axing expandable memory on the S6 was that it would look slow compared to the internal memory. IMO gouging customers to pay for more internal memory was also probably a consideration in the decision. I'm probably one of the few who hope they do unibody, get rid of the removable battery and make it thinner. But I'd hate to lose the expandable memory.

Samsung is finally listening...

720p (HD) - Above 2500+ mAh

1080p (Full HD) - Above 3000+ mAh

1440p (Quad HD) - Above 4000+ mAh

Instead of going backwards in battery capacity like with the S6/S6 edge, they should be going forward. Cheap Chinese phones from THL (The Happy Life) and Gionee are already packing 5000 mAh on HD/MediaTek smartphones! Other companies should keep increasing and increasing and not incremental battery upsizes for useless Quad HD where many of us can't see the pixels anyway... Now if Samsung can maintain removable battery for it, Note 5 is already a winner and easily the Note series is becoming of the best all-around smartphones across the board with very little weaknesses except maybe being too big which is a preference thing anyway.

Samsung can keep the non-removable glass back for wireless charging and use a spring loaded bottom battery slot.

I've been waiting for you to make this thread

People are probably going to resent my opinions, but I honestly think that it will be a blown-up S6. Obviously it will have the S pen and optimised software, but I think that will be it.
NO 4K! It. Is. Absolutely. Pointless. No noticeable difference (as if there was one between FHD and QHD) and pointless amount of battery life wasted. I'm actually hoping for the return of the 8:5 aspect ratio. I think it's ideal for a phablet. 2560x1600? It would be an increase of resolution. Maybe even better, 1920x1200, but I don't think that will go down well with marketing.

Normally wouldn't want non-HD increments of aspect ratio due to LCD light bleed on the black borders but AMOLED doesn't have that issue. Nothing worse than backlight bleed to ruin a movie experience.

There's no way I'm going back to a Samsung after this garbage lollipop update which has halved my battery life. I don't care if it's Google, the slow updates and ping pong from Samsung and ATT has left me with a bad taste in my mouth.

There's no way I'm going back to a Samsung after this garbage lollipop update which has halved my battery life. I don't care if it's Google, the slow updates and ping pong from Samsung and ATT has left me with a bad taste in my mouth.

It's a bit too easy to blame Google. The Note 4 lollipop update made my note 4 noticeably less efficient; even my Galaxy Alpha which ran at around 800mb system on KitKat jumped upto 1.3-1.4gb system on Lollipop, resulting in app refreshes and lag that were simply never there on KitKat.

Whilst it would be easy to blame Lollipop, the reality is other manufacturers have managed to embrace lollipop without such issues.

LG, HTC, Sony, Motorola devices haven't had such noticeable issues since pushing out lollipop as much as Samsung, likewise they haven't seen such massive system ram usage increase either. Now of course I'm not saying they haven't had some bugs / but nothing quite as impactful as on Samsung devices.

Samsung devices across the board are suffering noticeable poorer battery and standby ram increase across all of their devices I have had and used with it. (Note 4, Alpha, S6 Edge owned and S5, A5 used since lollipop). So there is definitely something not right with their touchwiz build on lollipop across the board.

Even the S6 with 'less bloat' uses more system ram standing still than other Samsung devices - especially under Kit Kat.

------
My Note 5 dream / hopes therefore are less about hardware and more about software.

I wish Samsung would truly go back to the scratch and rebuild Touchwiz from the ground up. HTC / SONY devices have just as many features / bells and whistles and don't use anything like as much resources standing still. That speaks volumes.

I can only drool at how amazing performance on the S6 / S6 Edge would have been had they really had an optimised OS. The octo-core exynos & DDR 4 with a device with stock android level of ram usage (and you don't have to sacrifice features to get this as the M8 & M9 prove) would make an amazing combination.

Couldn't disagree with you more. TW makes these phones horrifically bad. Nexus/iPhone/Moto X are probably the best on the market at this time.
