I have seen people on this forum say how much data they have on their SD Card and now that the Note 5 didn't have it....they were going to buy an iphone. So either its a needed feature or it isn't.

Well, the iPhone does offer 128GB and unless something's changed that I missed, the Note 5 doesn't.

The problem is that not only doesn't the Note5 not have a MicroSD but it lacks a 128GB variant, you don't seem to understand what we are saying.

A 128GB Variant would have made up for lack of MicroSD as at least 128GB is plenty storage. Many of us have 32GB to 64GB MicroSDs, so we have at least 64GB memory in our Note 4 altogether, a 64GB Note5 may not be enough though as we install more data in our new Note5 on top of the data we had in the Note 4.

The iPhone at least has a 128GB variant, so one may go with that as at least it offers a lot more memory, even if there is no MicroSD at least it offers 128GB. With the Note5 we lose MicroSD and get limited to 64GB, when even the S6/S6Edge had 128GB variants.

Why does app refresh matter and what is it?

Sadly, as many has mentioned the lack of 128gb is probably due to the lack of sales on the S6/Edge 128gb model, I know TMO was charging 1k+ for a S6Edge. I had one until I woke up and returned it due being overly priced and felt it wasn't worth it.

Would you pay 800+ or so for the 128gb version? I probably would since I was willing to pay 1k+ once but will others be enough for Samsung to justify having a 128gb version? Hopefully, they will next year and not pull it like they did this year.

Basically it means an app starts from the beginning instead of where you left off, and in some apps that also means you lose any info that may not have already been saved. I haven't noticed it my self, so it's not something that bothers me. What does kind of bother me is that the foot print for touchwiz is so large that it's almost like running Windows on your phone.

While they managed to simply over power it with hardware, so again as long as it's fast and smooth no big deal for me, it represents wasted potential, imagine how much faster it would run if it was properly optimized.

To add to this

I have the 32GB S6 edge and I have 1GB left...they needed to give people the choice of 128GB when they got rid of SD cards.

.

Imagine your going for a run or cycle and you start runtastic and Nike apps to record your activity. You then open pandora or google play music. On your run you get a text message so you check it, answer and finish your run. You then open your activity tracking apps and discover because of the poor ram management it's actually stopped / killed those apps and failed to record anything.

Likewise imagine your listening to a podcast or audible book. You open up your email and answer a few emails and in process open the browser following links from your email. You then load up Google play newsstand to read some news and then suddenly the podcast or book you were listening to in pocketcasts/audible comes to a sudden halt. You go back to the app and realise the system has closed it ....

Things like this should not be happening on any flagship device with 3 or 4gb of ram.

That really is strange to get ride of SD cards and also get rid of the 128 variant. I have always been a cloud person: music, photos, documents..all in the cloud. I could get away with an 8gb nexus with 4 left over.

Just saw this video, at the end he highlights a new feature where you can actually see what apps are running in the background and either disable them or put an auto stop so that after 10 min of running in the background they stop and won't reload until you run them.

This might be a way to remedy the ram issue. You can skip to the 2:09 minute mark to see what I'm talking about.

Unfortunately it doesn't kill system processes that are using up all the ram in the first place, only third party apps/services and with the aggressive ram issue if your running more than 4 or 5 you would be lucky to get them to last 10 minutes anyway before they are aggressively stopped without any need of user intervention.

The fact this issue appears to have carried over to the Note 5 means it's clearly an issue with the way performance revisions in the new Touchwiz are working.

I wonder if the carriers would mind me doing those things on their demo device. :)

Reducing Animations I have been doing since who remembers when, some of the others I never did so thanks.

Sadly, yes I would. Down here in South Africa we over pay for basically everything. I worked out the other day that we pay the same price for a fully loaded BMW 125i what you guys pay for a fully loaded BMW M4....yes I am a BMW fanboy. The trend goes on for many products, incl. Smartphones, so I always figure if I am going to to pay crazy money, may as well get exactly what I want.

64GB S6 Edge+ should be around $1300USD down here, going by the UK price, around the same as the 128GB S6 Edge down here.

Why not just order online from another country?

Buying from other African countries is mostly a no-go, risks of package loss due to our useless Postal Office who are almost always on strike. I also prefer buying locally for warranty purposes and the incentives e.g. free multiple repairs and so on from Samsung South Africa.

not scientific or a real use case, just thought it was interesting

That is the exact reload problem everyone is talking about =/

hopefully software updates fix it, but I am not holding my breath. I am curious just how many apps will stay stored though. I'll know tomorrow.

That's unfortunate about system apps, but this could still be useful. A lot of apps will start up and run momentarily in the background, Facebook and isyncr do this to name a few. So with this option you can stop those from loading up, so in the instances where one of those apps could the one that pushed it over the limit to dump another, they won't so you could see some improvement.

Ok, gotcha. Yeah, it can be annoying and I've seen this before.

Ouch and I hear yah. Hopefully, they will have a 128gb option soon or have that option next year.

Yeah...don't understand the reasons behind that. But I would not use that much storage anyway. I always stick to the 64GB variants. But i can see why some would want it. But isn't the best selling iphone the 16GB?

I do believe (full) windows has a smaller footprint, but windows uses a page file so that is cheating a bit. But it does actively utilize less ram which is pretty crazy.
