I own an Air 2 and the iPhone 6 and it is a big difference in multi-tasking b.c of the RAM.
Agreed. Air 2 is my favourite Apple devices for a long time. Smooth as silk and glides effortlessly even split screening on iOS9. Of course by iOS12 it'll be stuttering but that's approaching 2019!

Not to derail this thread but I love the split screen functionality on my Air 2...hopefully third party devs don't drag their a... implementing it for their apps.

And yes, I'm well aware Samsung did it first--actually was a fan of it on the Note 10.1 I owned but biggest pet peeve was limited availability of compatible apps.

Just got Note 5 and starting to get it setup. So far so good. Its so fast.....
It passed my iphone test. So far only 3 phone have passed my iphone test. The HTC One (7 and 8) Galaxy S6 and now the Note 5.
The test is to pickup the phone and see how it feels in my hand getting a feel for the build and fit and finish and how it feels holding it. Then pickup my iphone and see how it compares.

I post more thoughts after I get it setup some more.

No first impressions yet beyond that? You know there isn't anything more important today, don't you? :)

its 7:27 PM PST and UPS still hasn't delivered my Note 5 yet. :(

EDIT: Just got it a few mins ago and its so lovely. Will give my mini review in a few days. ;)

Can't wait to see some pics. I went back to my iPhone, I regret the loss of functionality but I just needed a rock solid phone. I'll live vicariously through you guys, that is unless I say the hell with it and go pre order an edge plus.

Yeah I did the same thing and around this time of the year I get jumpy and I think I'm going to order the Note 5 online and say my 6 Plus time is up. Its such a solid device though. Looks like the Note 5 will be as well.

I can't ever just go without one so I keep a Note and an iphone.

Yes again Samsungs software is holding back their amazing hardware.

Exactly... It's still blazing fast, but the disappointment is, you can see if Toucwiz didn't have this persistent ram issue, how much faster it would have actually ended up coming in front.

Amazing hardware, let down by the software and it's a genuine shame for anyone who loves Samsung's hardware

Ram management affects all users / devices but for those who use few apps the affect will not be felt anything like as much as power users and those that do like to run multiple activity trackers in the background whilst exercising etc. But the fundamental point is and can not be 'downplayed' is that on a 4GB device ALL users should be able to run a lot of apps in the background without them being aggressively killed regardless of whether they are light or power users.

I truly hope the S7 finally comes with a Touchwiz iteration that has been rebuilt to address this once and for all.

Something like the lower range Asus Zenfone 2 should not be outgunning a device in multitasking tests that is more than twice (correction - three times) its price. A device who's original conception was designed / intended for the 'power user'...

I like what this XDA user had to say about this issue.

This is Touchwiz, not the Lollipop memory bug, which has been fixed. Other lollipop based devices are not aggressively killing apps. Nexus 6 you can routinely have a good dozen or more apps in the background and they won't refresh.

Likewise even Moto X has around 8-9 and has half the ram of the Note 5 and 50% less than the S6

HTC M9 - similar story to the Nexus 6 regarding backgrounded apps

Sony Z3 - same story again.

M9 is running a heavily skinned OS and Z3 has a less heavily but still skinned take too. Yet none of these devices have ram management issues and all of them are performing better in multitasking and are running Lollipop

This is Touchwiz. What's more unfathomable is why with the Note 5 it can't run any more apps in the background than the S6/S6E despite that extra 1Gb of ram. Again it's another case of Samsungs excellent hardware and muscle power being heavily compromised by a skin that whilst given a lick of paint - is under the hood still a terrible bloated by legacy code, utter resource hog.

The disappointment is simple, imagine how fast these devices would be running a different manufacturers skin or stock. It's a shame Samsung have made no attempts here to fix this, and as they HAVE NOT ACKNOWLEDGED the Ram issue officially in any shape or form - to presume they are going to ever fix it is just wishful thinking unfortunately.

Man I hate to hear that these new Samsung devices still have RAM issues, even though im not a person who bounces between apps all day, its still a annoyance that its still there. I doubt this will stop me from still ordering the device.
