Absolutely. They have some wicked good plans. And their data charges are significantly better then ATTs

$10 extra a month, will get you an additional 20GB data on T-Mobile.

$10 extra on ATT gets you 1GB, yes only 1GB that's a frigging sad joke

Plus I want to support T-Mobile on principal on their openness to keep their phones like " International " phones, meaning unlocked and rootable.

I oddly enough am not a big data user. ATT has really good pre-paid plans...$55 for 4gb with rollover.

Loving the phone so far.

Anyone know what could be causing this? My phone isn't sleeping.... Period. Can't think of why.

Could it be due to its first cycle?

Factory reset fixed it. Must have disabled something I shouldn't have.

My concern is coverage here in Miami, FL. I've heard they're not that great. But I believe they offer WiFi calling, just not if on the galaxy series.
Coverage is really good down here from T-Mobile. I'm on MetroPCS, which uses the T-Mobile networks, I bought the Note 4 from T-Mobile and used the MetroPCS sim card.

Coverage is great in Miami, At least from Homestead to Palm Beach Gardens, which is where I'll try it out more so. Band 12 has been supported since the beginning of the year, so even deep in the buildings in downtown, you will have good support. Wifi calling has been available for a while, I began using it back with the Galaxy S4.

Download speeds are fast. Usually I'm on Band 4 and download speeds in the afternoon can vary between 30Mbps-50Mbps. Overnight, download speeds are 60Mbps to a peak of 80Mbps. Still on 15MHz, once they increase it to 20MHz, download speeds will improve, not that I even need the high speeds I currently get.

I just chose MetroPCS over T-Mobile because it uses the same network and it's $55 flat for unlimited talk and data. Only pain is getting T-mobile to sell you the phones upfront without the plans, but once I jump through that mess, I don't even have to unlock the T-Mobile phone.

But you will have a great T-Mobile service down here.

Yeah metropcs in Miami is pretty good. Thing is wificalling is not on metro just T-Mobile.

There is a thread on Androidcentral about passing judgment too quickly with the Note 5. Very good discussion, I think it stemmed from a user of Samsung devices perceiving since you have seen one of their more recent smartphones you will just continue to experience the same thing.

I don't really see lag or stutter on Samsung smartphones per se that I have used, those terms just don't seem to fit. What I noticed lacking is smoothness and fluidity. I guess saying stutter and lag are appropriate terms then perhaps but the Note 5 is delivering so far in spades as far as what I was not experiencing. I have not even thought about Nova Launcher, I like the UI just the way it is so far.

The in-laws are in town, so I'll post a legit review in a few days.

This phone may easily be the most premium, frustration free, fluid phone I have ever used. Name a top of the line flagship in the last few years, and chances are I have owned it for a reasonable amount of time.

Honestly, this is the first phone (besides for the lumina 1520 I owned for a few weeks... But the app situation, rough) that tops the iphone in all ways I can think of so far. The screen, feel, camera, speed, stability, etc.

The battery life is superb so far as well.

Word of caution, I downloaded package disabler and disabled a few things yesterday. Mainly tmobile bloat, a few included apps, and the Samsung email app and sync. I am not sure if it was that, or a weird system bug but my phone wouldn't sleep (cpu spy can indicate this for you. I have included a screenshot below from this morning, with the problem fixed). I reset the phone, and now it's sleeps almost immediately, better than my past s6 edge, g4, nexus 6....you get the point. I think it is likely Samsung tweaked the software on board to trigger a quicker entry into sleep, in order to get better battery. It's similar to how an iphone operates.

I am running with everything active. Google location history, Google now, Facebook, Twitter, etc. No battery saving steps taken since my factory reset last night. I also haven't disabled anything beyond a few tmobile apps.

Yeah the tough part is actually quantifying the word "lag". I agree on the little micro stutters falling into the category of lag. Lag, for me, is also apps which open slowly. In particular the camera app and the multi tasking app which can take several seconds to open. Several seconds is an eternity when you just need a quick glance at something or catch your 3 year old with a picture. So for me those 2 things sum up "lag", micro stutters and slow to open apps. Both are still alive and well on my Note 4.

These micro stutters seem absent from the note.... Which is vital. The note 4 drove me nuts with what you mentioned above

Today will be my first full day with the phone. Got the white (pearl) 32gb on Tmobile Jump. Didn't feel like putting down the $100 deposit since I might jump to iPhone 6S+ or Blackberry Venice in a few months. So far so good. Battery life has been ok so far but I'm a heavy user so we'll see. Phone is really speedy for a Samsung device. I have noticed a few apps refresh. It's usually the oldest app that I've opened but like some have mentioned Samsung is more aggressive with killing of apps compared to the note4. It's just noticeable after last using a Nexus 6 for an android device. The screen is fantastic and the lack of huge bezels make it feel much smaller than it is. The fingerprint sensor is ace. Never thought they'll be a company up to participate with the iPhone's touch id. The s pen is great and I can finally draw on the go again.

You think the 32gb will be enough? I was reading that you would only really have a little under 24gb.

I might switch it out for the 64gb.

Still have Samsung sync and email disabled after the reset?

Second day battery life is great! Heavy use today on Words With Friends and FB. WWF absolutely kills the battery.
Should still get 5.5 hrs SOT

@jamezr could you perhaps do a full day on just 4G with fairly high brightness (80%+) if you're able to?

I saw you were crushing 7+ hours on WiFi previously so would be interested to see how a full-on battery attack goes.

Actually it is. I had the GS4 from T-Mobile on MetroPCS and the wifi calling was active. I just had to call MetroPCS to activate it. With my current T-Mobile Note 4, I'm on MetroPCS and I have wifi calling. Set up was even easier the second time around because all I had to do was activate Wi-Fi calling directly from my phone.

There you can see that the wifi calling is active and on MetroPCS. With all those features, I just had little reason to use T-Mobile since I'm on the same network. I don't use wi-fi calling too much since I get VoLTE and it sounds better, but at least the option is there.

How were you able to buy a phone from them without a plan?
Honestly, it's always a bit of a pain for both the GS4 and Note 4.

To clarify, I have to get a plan initially, but I have to cancel it right away. I have to order the phone and pay for the entire device from t-mobile.com, not from a t-mobile store. I have to buy the phone and pay in advance for the cheapest plan T-Mobile offers. As soon as I get the Phone, luckily the Note 4 was shipped a few days earlier, I have to call T-Mobile right away and cancel the plan. After a week, I get the refund for the plan service I paid.

The luck is that MetroPCS runs on the same network as T-Mobile, so I don't have to activate the phone for 40 days to get it unlocked like T-Mobile demands. I get to call MetroPCS tell them the IEMI #, they put it into their system, and then I just have to use the MetroPCS sim card and I'm good to go

I remember your reply to me when I said on paper it doesn't look like a big upgrade from the Note 4 and you disagreed. Another cause of a person (me) underestimating the Note 5.

I was not going to get it without the $200 trade in for a smartphone. The Samsung rep at my local store who has been there now for about two years told me their allotment was going to go fast so if I was the least bit interested in it (he knows I'm a phone junkie) to get it and decide.

He said he doubted I'd return it and I'd be blown away. I went back today looking at cases and he was there and he asked if I was blown away. I told him I was not returning it. :)

Didn't think I had a clone out there somewhere and mimicking my feelings to a tee. :)

I ran Package Disabler to disable apps I don't need and use Greenify to put apps to sleep with no sleep issues.

So far this has to be the best phone I've ever had: all Note series, Galaxy S 1, 2, 3, 6 Edge, LG G3 and Nexus 6.

It's so smooth and fast in everything I do. I sometimes get typing lag in hangouts but I get that with every phone I've had. Pictures are much better than my Nexus 6.

Pet peeves are rejection list, why can't I select a number and reject it instead of having to remember the number and entering it in. Unless I'm doing this wrong.

Phone feels great while holding it with one hand compared to the previous Note series, where it felt large. I really like the edge on the back since it helps when holding the phone

It does have a premium feel to it but that has never bothered me. I was OK with the plastic builds of previous years but the Note 4 was the best for me.

I already miss the SD card but I'll get over it and learn to manage the space on my phone. Don't let the lack of removable battery or SD card from considering this phone. I got buyers remorse the next day after I got the S6 Edge 128gb but have yet on this phone.

I'm still trying to get battery life as good as Jamerz but we shall see. I'm a heavy user when at work.

Will provide more info and pics down the road. It's shower and coffee time .

Yes, but I would only recommend it if you are going to use it on MetroPCS. I don't know who is your carrier, but if it's some other company, you will need to get the phone unlocked and T-Mobile won't do that unless you have their services for 40 days.

But if you are going to use it on MetroPCS, then yes. Buy the Note 4 from the T-Mobile website, choose to pay for the entire device and choose the cheapest plan they offer. When you get the phone shipped to you, don't insert the t-mobile sim card, just call them up right away and tell them you don't want to use their service and you would like to cancel it, you just want to stay with the phone. They will cancel your plan, and you will get refunded the $50 or so in about a week or sooner. Then call MetroPCS with your sim card ready, give them the info and that is all you need.
