The facts are the iPhone is faster at opening and closing app's and synthetic benchmark's.
Awesome.

The Note 7, the topic of discussion of this particular thread, does a lot more and obviously does those things faster because the iPhone can't do certain things.

I'm not being defensive, a little sarcastic maybe, but defensive would infer that a small electronic device somehow threatens my ego.

Now why were we having this discussion in the Note 7 thread in the first place, go back and have a look.
I'm not calling you a troll but you were after a reaction.
The iPhone is faster from a UI standpoint, to multitasking with different apps, to on screen graphics performance, and to any task that is CPU dependent. that's it. It doesn't throttle, to it also gets faster as a task goes on. That's it.

The Note 7 doesn't do a "lot more", it has 1 or 2 particular features that are barely used, like the pen, as shown for last year note 5 rollout, while not having access to a variety of features that people actually use and care about, like a superior browser engine, iMessage, Continuity, AirPlay and so on and on.

If you are being sarcastic that's fine with me. But, reaction? No, this isn't a Note7 praise thread through obscurity at all costs. This is about discussing the phone, and Samsung dropped the ball. It's slower than 5 iPhones on sale + Any other Flagship + It burns itself. That's it.

I see the 7 being 649 like last year. The 7 plus looks like it went up 20 to 769. A 128gb 7 plus is 869. I believe a note 7 64gb is 849. I understand the sd card slot though. I think the market will determine whether it's too pricey. But I don't see a big difference for now. Generally customers equate the apple prices as getting a good level of support as well.

In the UK the note 7 is £700 for 64GB of internal storage and an SD card slot.

The 7 plus starts at £719 for 32GB and goes all the way to £919 for 256GB.

But Apple now sells the 5 fastest phones on the market. No explosions needed.

Sheesh....

Okay then....you have an agenda, that's okay but you can play with yourself.

Here the difference is considerable.

Would you not consider selling one of your other devices to facilitate the purchase? That's one of the reasons I'm considering the 7 Plus, the S7E and S6 are going to continue plummeting in price but if I sell them now, I can switch to a 7 Plus and not really spend anything and also know that in a year should I decide to sell, I won't lose that much in resale value.

Also, for what's it's worth, I've noticed an even steeper decline in S7E resale recently and I'm attributing it to the Note 7 recall. Recently a person asked me if I was worried about my S7E exploding since its from the same company as the recalled device and by their logic this device is basically at the same risk as the Note 7. Of course we know this is not true but from there perspective as a general consumer who easily influenced by the media, I can somewhat see where there thinking is coming from.

I would have sold my 6S - but would still be looking at anywhere between €489 - 529 extra to buy the 7 and €629-679 for the 7+ assuming I got €375-400 for my 6S

It's still a heck of a lot of money ... The price here of Apple phones is just increasing far too much per year.

Apple prices this year, regardless of reason some very expensive.

I'm still considering the note 7, I don't want to get another proper edge phone so won't be going for the s8 edge next year and the standard s line phone is too small for my tastes.

Ah I see my apologies I'm referring to us only.

Maybe wait for a secondhand deal to save money. I imagine they'll be quite a few who end up not liking the missing hp jack and sell theirs.

Well worth the extra.

Worth or 'value' is subjective. I would have no problem paying like for like, but I don't see Apple's iPhone as worth €200 more than Note 7 or €250-300 more than the S7e

Last years €969 for the 6s+ 64gb felt like a sucker punch - €1029 for 7+ is just for me the straw the broke the camels back ...

It's worth for me and unlike you i only have one phone. So either way i'm saving money and getting a better phone.

How are you saving money if the iphone is more expensive ?

Because he is only buying one phone, the iPhone 7.
Again he is not purchasing both an iPhone 7 and a galaxy note 7, so he is saving quite a bit.

Personally I was a bit bummed the iPhone 7 plus wasn't thinner. Still, really excited for the dual cameras, the new quad core processor, the new display and the stereo speakers.

Now just have to decide between the jet black or the Matt black.

At first i was going to buy jet black, but in my line of work i will be better of with regular back.

This morning i've send my note 7 back to samsung.
After the battery scandal, scratches after one day on my device, the lag and worse battery life compared to my s7 edge, i'm happy it's away now.
This was the most disappointing experience with a Note line i've ever had.
I hope Samsung do their homework with the S8 Edge better, i am waiting for this now.

It's a shame what should have potentially been such a good experience coming from the S7e was sullied for you. Hopefully the S8 will double down on quality both hardware and software wise making it much better experience for you.

You have a point.
I think the Note7 is done. By the time they relaunch the series in October/November it could be too late, the iPhone 7 would have shipped in scale and googles pixel phone would have launched as well. Might as well wait 2 months for the Galaxy s8.

Indeed. The 70-80€ price hike for 6s last year was almost intolerable, and now they're at it once again. Granted, the regular models went up only 20€, but the already ridiculously expensive plus models went up by 50€. Screw that, I spent that 50€ on Note 7 accessories instead.

According to the to the tmobile reps at the store I visit, they already have the new stock in the back. Exchanges start next week, and so does the device sales.

The number of people who are torn between an ip7 and a note 7 is not exemplified here. We are a small percentage. Most people are galaxy or iPhone people. They will wait for their new iPhone, or they will be waiting for their note 7. The iphone marker share has decreased over the past few years, and I don't think that is due solely to the note.

Personally, I think the main attraction for Samsung will remain the S line. The note has always been more niche, though this year the demand really increased. Despite the battery issue, my manager friend at tmobile said people are still ordering and being added to the wait list in the store, which is weeks long.

The battery issue hurt, I have no doubt, if for no other reason than prolonging the wait for those who have yet to get the phone. But from what I have observed, removing the headphone jack will hurt the iphone as well. Both will still sell wonderfully, and no one will really care except for us.

Personally, this looks to be the first iPhone that I won't preorder since the 5. I only rock one phone at a time, so I try to be thoughtful each time I move.

The ip7 looks nice, and the headphone jack remove is less of a deal to me than others, since I am a Bluetooth guy. The still larger than it needs to be ergonomics disappoint me. But honestly I need a big reason to move to the iPhone. I use a windows 10 desktop, Dell xps 15 9550 (apple, mimic this laptop, it's incredible ), iPad pro 9.7, and currently the note 7. They all work very well together, and Android works a little better with windows. The last thing isn't that big of a deal, but maybe enough to keep me away from. The iphone 7 this time. But who knows, I might cave later today.

The note 7 is a very impressive phone to me, and i am more excited to hear about the pixel phones than I was the iphone. The pixel phones are very much on my radar.

Also, as I have said, removing the headphone jack was likely a step back in sound quality (reference Anand tech article). Despite this, if they really were doing it for the customer /industry they would of moved to usb c,. Which is superior in all ways. As it stands, it's a money grab, and even locks out the current t MacBook from being compatible with the new lightning headphones apple will bundle.... Until the unavoidable usb c to lightning adapter is available for you to purchase.

Yep....i have said this from day one! They stand to make a killing from lightning accessories from their own Beats line.

I tend to sour on a company that does something that is so disadvantageous for the customer.

This is not the same as removing the cd rom from mac. The audio jack was ubiquitous for a reason. Sound degradation is not the reason apple remove the jack, hell its the defacto interface for recording studios. As andantech explained (paraphrasing), the iPhone usually had a high quality DAC. You have to have a DAC to translate a digital signal to an analog signal, in order for your ears to hear it (the analog signal is reproduced by the speakers). By introducing a digital output, the DAC now has to be incorporated into the headphones (unless you use the adapter, of course, but this applies to headphones that use lightning as its interface). The DAC in the headphones, with the exception of really high end devices, will be smaller and inferior to what is in the actual iPhone. This is an even bigger problem for your smaller headphones, like ear buds. Thus, it is actual a step back in audio quality.

As i said above, this was about profit and nothing else. Removing the headphone jack has an impact on quality for your everyday headphones, but if you really deemed it necessary to better the phone, and you were looking to do it in way that still benefits the consumer, then you go the USB-C route. A USB-C iPhone would have many advantages over the current offering.

Instead, we get the lightning interface, that is disadvantageous to the customer, and advantageous to Apple's bottom line. I understand profit drives a company, but Apple already makes more money than any company in the world; as such, I don't see how this can be spun in a way that is positive for anyone but Apple's cash reserves.

The more and more I think about it, the less it makes sense to get the iPhone 7 plus. All of the features it's getting I already have on my S7 edge. Apart from the stereo speakers but I'm not that bothered about those. I've got a Bluetooth speaker that I use anyway. Also it's not as if they are boom speakers. The bokeh stuff isn't even available at launch and I can do selective focus on my S7 edge. The dual lens camera only enables you to 2X optical zoom so it's not revolutionary.

To be honest now that the dust has settled the note 7 is the better phone. The iPhone 7 plus at 256GB is not worth £919.
