Color me unimpressed. Big feeling of meh.

Sure the Note 7 is an upgrade over the Note 5, that's easy with the small battery and no SD card on the Note 5. But other than that, I'm not all that impressed with the Note 7. it ships with the old and soon to be outdated Android Marshmallow, with Android N officially releasing before the Note 7 hits retail stores, meaning you'll be waiting until Spring 2017 until the Note 7 gets N.

And it's still Touchwiz, yeah yeah I know, Touchwiz has been improved. But it's still a laggy slowdown after 6+ months of use. My Wife has the Note 5, and it's almost one year old, and it's pretty laggy now, whereas compared to when she first got it, was warp speed fast, smooth as butter, but over time it starts to get choppy, like those old Windows 95 PC's.

My Wife also had the Galaxy S6, same thing happened, at first was a super fast and smooth phone, but many months later, a different story.

Now my Nexus 6P, I've had a while now, it still feels snappy fast, and smooth as butter, no different than the first day I got it. And I will get Android N right away this month.

To me the only smartphones to buy, are the iPhone Plus version, or the premium Nexus phone.

My S6 is seriously just as fast, smooth and lag free as the first day I bought it, 10 months ago. I actually prefer the extra functionalities Touchwiz offers compared to stock Android. In my opinion, stock Android is a bit overrated. For example, I like how Samsung offers true multitasking (split screen). On the Nexus 6P you have a 5.7 inch screen and you can't even use two apps at the same time. What's the use of that big screen then? I use split screen all the time, for example just a couple minutes ago to watch the Note 7 event while browsing the MacRumors forum (see screenshot below). Also getting the latest Android update later isn't that big of a deal either. The phone will not suddenly become unusable or full of viruses when using an older Android version for a couple of months longer.

It depends on where you live.....
In the US pre-orders start tomorrow.
Europe is a little different as @The Game 161 pointed out.
In Europe, pre-orders start August 16, with the Note 7 going on sale in major European countries on Sept. 2.

I am going to to be all over the free 256GB SD Card on T-Mobile. There is a black N7 with my name on it right now.....

Thanks for the info on the European release.

People are hard to please.

Better S pen - check.
Water Resistant - check.
Better aesthetic design - check.
Larger storage - check.
Larger Battery - check.
New features - security folder, iris scanner, usb c - check
New unique colour - check.

So its missing 6gb of ram and a faster processor than the S7. Unlike you geeks I and probably most of the population prefer the offering of a new colour than 6gb of ram since 6gb of ram will not actually add anything useful.

Mobilesyrup reports, just like the S7 Edge, we're getting the Exynos Note 7. This day just keeps getting better and better. Not to take anything away from my Snapdragon Note warriors. ;)

Not a huge upgrade though from Note 5. Would've preferred a bigger display closer to 6" considering how compact it is. Black is boring, gray is bland and only platinum baby blue is interesting. As far as design I have to see it in person before passing final judgement and while the side curves are fine the top and bottom ones are kind of ugly. Sort of on the fence as far as day one purchase. The only thing that might sway me is performance, battery life and available free memory to justify not going with 6GB. I can live with 3GB out of 4GB free but if it's 2GB out 4GB it's a fail and they should've gone with 6GB.

The stream sucks... it keeps cutting out.
I could only get it to stream on my iPhone SE via AT&T which was very smooth. Home wifi on Fios didn't work for some reason. iPad on T-Mobile was a no-go. Which is a problem since I was going to get the Note7 on T-Mobile. I'm disappointed there's no sign of a BOGO offer from T-mobile. My husband would get one, too, if there were. I may just stay on AT&T and trade in my 6S Plus then on Next. I'll have to see what deals are around. If any.

I was impressed with the Note 7. But then I'm not comparing it to the S7 Edge. I've got iPhones and that is all I know, so when I see 4GB of RAM and a 3500 mAh battery my reaction is wheeeeeeee! Lol!

I don't know......It seems like a BIG upgrade over the Note 5 IMO.

Waterproofing
bigger battery
SD Card
64GB base storage
Upgraded S-Pen
Grace UX..... so faster TW
Better camera...especially low light

Cons depending on user preferences:
Curved display Note 7 versus Note 5 and flat dispaly

The curve display, I'm reading, is more subtle and smaller than the one on the S7 Edge. Sounds interesting for the S8 Edge, though just by looking at pictures, there doesn't seem to be a big difference between the S7E and the Note 7.

Either way, curved displays are here to stay for Samsung. I'm actually kind of glad to see them dedicate fully to curve displays. As I've said before, I don't know how else you can squeeze a 5.7" display into such a form factor. With Gorilla Glass 5, too.

The form factor is a beauty. And I think ultimately, people will not be bothered by the curved displays even when using the S-pen. As I've argued before, never are you ever pressing for things at the utmost edge of the screen. Even if you're scribbling or drawing with the S-pen, I think users will adjust to simply not drawing/writing off the edge of the display, which you wouldn't really be doing anyway with or without a curved display.

Hands on

Iris Scanner

"As neat as the technology is, it doesn't actually seem that useful right at first blush. When I was trying to unlock a Note 7 with my gaze, getting my eyes lined up correctly took more time than a fingerprint scan normally would. This will probably get easier with time, but be sure to keep your expectations in check all the same"..

Worth upgrading ?

"At the end of the day, though, is it worth ditching a Note 5 for a Note 7? Unclear. Innovation comes in fits and starts, and I'm left wondering what else can be done to make the long-standing Galaxy Note formula indispensable. Anyone looking for dramatic change here might be disappointed, but at this early stage, the Note 7's overall package is still impressive. "

As one of the few on here who was actually excited about this, it seems they neutered it by oversecuring it. You have to turn the power button on, THEN swipe, THEN you have to center your eyes on the screen. Bleh, maybe I'll use it once in a while if my hands are full or something. I don't know what the fascination with having to swipe comes from, give me the option to just freakin turn my phone on with no swiping. Thankfully Samsung Good Lock lets me do this, but I'm not sure yet if it isn't just a bug in the app, I'm hoping this works with the iris scanner similar to how it eliminates the swipe with fingerprint login currently.

BTW the 950XL with iris scanner does NOT make you swipe, you hit the power button and it scans automatically. You also don't have to specifically line your eyes up, I'm sure the iris camera needs to be pointing at the right spot, but you don't get the little mini game where you have to line up your eyes. IMO it's a MUCH better implementation of iris scanning. The more I compare it to the Note 7 the more I realize their implementation sucks, but I'll withhold full judgement until I actually have one in hand.

The curve looks awesome, my problem is that it basically shrinks the usable space of the screen and it's a lot harder to handle, especially without a case. I get a ton of false touches with my edge.

Hopefully that's been remedied with the new edge.

I'm a jealous hater! That's cool though.

Indeed. The growing pains (ie. learning curve) of novel technology.

I don't think the "usability" issue will be a big deal. The entire screen is still usable, and it's not like a lot of presses are required to be at the utmost edge of screens. Maybe you can't scribble/draw with the S-Pen as far, but I predict users will find it's ultimately a non-issue. You simply wouldn't write off the edge just as you wouldn't write to a wall.

Learning to handle the device and dealing with false touches are more warranted concerns though, and that will vary from people to people. I predict as the technology matures, the hardware and software will only get better to aid with things like false touches and whatnot.

[doublepost=1470158023][/doublepost]I appreciate Samsung "downplaying" and not overhyping the IRIS scanner. It's just added security, which is all it can be right now. They're still pushing relatively new technology (especially novel for a smartphone) and it'll only get better.

Imo, the Note 5 looks fugly especially next to the 7.

I have really mixed feelings about it. I agree that the 6p/6s+ are much smoother, and are guaranteed the latest and greatest software as soon as its released. But they are also monsters, much larger than they should be and really embarrassing when held next to even last years Note 5. Each has its pros and cons and I honestly can't decide which con I want.
[doublepost=1470158421][/doublepost]
If I was going to get one based on colour (i'm not, i'm happy going from S7e to S7 in this case) but it would be the blue with the copper sides. I think that looks very nice.

Does it have copper sides? They looked silver to me. I'm actually bummed they didn't color match the sides on the blue and gold versions. That blue with blue back and blue sides would have been very swank and may have swayed me from the black one. But two tone sides look gaudy to me, especially colors which don't match.

Yeah the pricing is outrageous.....but you get what you pay for as well. Then the leaks and pics of the Nexus Marlin are fugly to say the least......
Personally I will pick features and functionality over less features and stock ...just to have stock Android.

*awaits the " I found a used Note 7 for a good deal" post from MRU in a few months max

Lol, I know Nic gets a bad rap but he's really one of my favorite actors. If there was ever a movie about the Note 7 I'd want him to be the star of the movie.

Some are saying the edges on the Note 7 are now perfected. All in all, positive hands on all around. Surprisingly, most are saying the Iris scanner doesn't suck. Lol

This video is one of the best to describe the new features

It's really beautiful. The edge feature definitely looks more refined than in the Galaxy S7 Edge. I can understand why folks want flat, but Samsung probably did turn a few heads from Apple with the S7 Edge. I know it drew me in for more than a casual curious look. I also did quickly make note of the shortcomings. I feel confident I will adjust well and enjoy the curves on the Note 7. I do think Samsung er..., made note of the complaints of the S7 Edge's curves.

But I have always wanted that S Pen and now, my God, look at what it can do and heck yes I'm going to use the magnifier and the translator. And as queen of sticky notes I will love that ability to jot and anchor a note to the screen.

I couldn't deal with a huge phone as just a phone, which is why I got an SE. At this size, the device has to work in a different way than my iPhone to be useful to me. And from what I can see Samsung has nailed it.

Where my patience may end up being tested as an Apple fan is in reliability and customer service. Samsung has stepped it up but not to Apple levels yet, from what I've been seeing. However I can see they are hungry for business from Apple customers. Their little dig about the headphone jack is a good sign. Lol, but my husband did just get me big ol wireless headphones for my birthday. It figures. Oh well I still want that headphone jack.
