My S6 is seriously just as fast, smooth and lag free as the first day I bought it, 10 months ago. I actually prefer the extra functionalities Touchwiz offers compared to stock Android. In my opinion, stock Android is a bit overrated. For example, I like how Samsung offers true multitasking (split screen). On the Nexus 6P you have a 5.7 inch screen and you can't even use two apps at the same time. What's the use of that big screen then? I use split screen all the time, for example just a couple minutes ago to watch the Note 7 event while browsing the MacRumors forum (see screenshot below). Also getting the latest Android update later isn't that big of a deal either. The phone will not suddenly become unusable or full of viruses when using an older Android version for a couple of months longer.

Multi screen actually works much BETTER on the 6p if you are running Nougat, BTW. Multi screen on my Note 5 is neutered because the vast majority of apps don't work with it. Even Samsung branded apps many times don't work with multi screen, which is supremely idiotic IMO. With Nougat pretty much anything works in multi window on the 6p, it's very impressive. Finally I can have apps like Waze in a multi window.

My Note 5 lags as well, but it's intermittent. Sometimes it's very smooth, other times it does pause for a second when transitioning, no rhyme or reason. I've never seen a lag on my 6p, but I've run it mostly with nougat so maybe it's that.

I still can't decide what to do.. I have a Note4 that still serves me well. I have spare batteries and 128GB sd card. I got my 4 for 329$ (CDN$) but the N7 is 549$. I'm still experiencing bugs here and there but there is nothing preventing them to be in the N7. Mine won't get the next Android version but I don't expect the N7 to have it before next year. An iPhone would be fine but I don't like the computer line-up they currently have, so I feel that buying their phone without being in the ecosystem, is not that great.

I was excited about the N7 iris scanner but you need to swipe before using it. If you swipe, why not swipe the home button and be done with it? I like the IP68 and the camera. I'm still curious about the glass shell. I dropped my N4 more than a dozen times and it's built like a tank. I prefer a naked phone but I could survive with a case as long as it's not restrict the edges touch input.

Soo.... what happened to flat black? Still getting it but... now harder to decide between black and silver. The silver is not like the platinum silver of the S7E right? That thing is like a mirror...

It's really beautiful. The edge feature definitely looks more refined than in the Galaxy S7 Edge. I can understand why folks want flat, but Samsung probably did turn a few heads from Apple with the S7 Edge. I know it drew me in for more than a casual curious look. I also did quickly make note of the shortcomings. I feel confident I will adjust well and enjoy the curves on the Note 7. I do think Samsung er..., made note of the complaints of the S7 Edge's curves.

But I have always wanted that S Pen and now, my God, look at what it can do and heck yes I'm going to use the magnifier and the translator. And as queen of sticky notes I will love that ability to jot and anchor a note to the screen.

I couldn't deal with a huge phone as just a phone, which is why I got an SE. At this size, the device has to work in a different way than my iPhone to be useful to me. And from what I can see Samsung has nailed it.

Where my patience may end up being tested as an Apple fan is in reliability and customer service. Samsung has stepped it up but not to Apple levels yet, from what I've been seeing. However I can see they are hungry for business from Apple customers. Their little dig about the headphone jack is a good sign. Lol, but my husband did just get me big ol wireless headphones for my birthday. It figures. Oh well I still want that headphone jack.
I'm sticking with my S7 edge. It's a great phone and it might become my daily driver but for now the 6S plus still holds that place because it integrates with all my other Apple products.

I've taken out insurance on my s7 edge so I'll be covered no matter how difficult samsungs repairs procedures are.

And yes I totally get wanted a headphone jack. I've got one pair of Bluetooth headphones and o use them very rarely. They drain your battery and you have to remember to charge them otherwise they are useless. I got a very nice pair of sennheiser wired headphones at Christmas and an older of beats headphones that I want to carry on using.

Was that insurance through Samsung or your carrier or Square Trade? My iPhone 6S plus is insured through AT&T.

I'm not too worried about integration since my various Apple devices aren't really too connected to each other except for iMessage and photo sharing. We will see how I feel when I'm actually living this experiment.

Everyone who strays from Apple seems to lament the loss of iMessage. However I will still have my SE and my iPad so I am not really leaving anything behind. I don't think any phone as huge as the Note 7 could ever be my daily driver as a phone and text device ever again. Been there, done that for almost two years with the iPhone plus sized phones and that got old. Phablets are a very special niche device for me. I'm thinking I'll be okay with the Note 7 standing somewhat apart. I'll be using google accounts to unite the two platforms where needed.

I mean, you can achieve the same thing with a fingerprint-secured folder, but I really like this general idea.

My insurance is with my carrier. To be honest I only really use iMessage with my mum and dad. Everyone else uses what's app so I wouldn't really miss that. It's just little things like handoff, seamless syncing etc. I have an iPad, Apple Watch, Apple TV and a MacBook Air so I'm pretty much all in with Apple. However the 2016 crop of devices from Samsung are just too good to ignore so I had to come back.

Oh yeah that's right I have an Apple Watch, too. And Apple TV and MacBook Pro. I'm going to go for the Gear S2 Fit watch freebie offer if I can get it. We just bought a Samsung Smart TV but I'm not sure what interaction would exist between it and the Note 7.

I'd take the $499 HTC Nexus Marlin over the $850+ Note 7 any day of the week;

Google Phone "Marlin" Nexus by HTC
• Display:
5.5-inch QHD (2K 2560 x 1440) AMOLED
• Processor: Quad-core 2.0GHz 64-bit (Qualcomm Snapdragon 821)
• RAM: 4GB
• Battery: 3450mAh
• Internal Storage: 32GB / 128GB
• Cameras: 12MP rear camera, 8MP front
• Fingerprint Scanner: Yes, rear-mounted
• Connectivity: USB-C, Bluetooth 4.2
• Speaker: "bottom-firing"
• Headphone Jack: Yes

I don't think I would. The HTC 10, for example, looks great on paper but is an ugly, chunky, large bezeled mess IMO. With rumors about HTC using plastic on the sailfish I have my doubts what a desperate company like HTC will bring to the table, and where they will cut corners.

Great, more reason for Samsung to push Knox and a locked bootloader.

I think you can share content via smart share over wifi to Samsung smart TVs. I do have a chromecast so I can use that with my s7 edge. I love phablets. I've had the original Galaxy note, the note 3 and 4, the iPhone 6S plus and 6 plus and I've also had the s4 and s5. I've been using them since 2012 and I'm not bored of them yet.

when I was on Vacation, my room had a Samsung TV so I started a movie (playing from my SD card) and enabled screen mirroring. Bang! I was now watching a movie on the TV without using any other devices or gizmo. I use it at home to when I need it.

we are still waiting for Google Allo, it's an iMessage alternative for Android. It's not released yet but should be avail this fall.

Really nice phone, I am getting used to the edges the more videos I see of it...
The black one is beautiful even with the painted metal-frame makes them look like those on the Galaxy S3.
Only thing I don't like for now is iris and fingerprint scanners - why do I have to wake up the N7 to use either of them?
The version used on my OP3 is MUCH better IMO, place my finger on the scanner while screen is off, and 0.2 sec later my OP3 is unlocked.

Hmm, I see ATT has a BOGO with a free S2, very tempting even though I was planning on canceling with them. True to form Verizon has nothing but the free gear fit 2, no BOGO. I wish I knew if the ATT Note 7 came with wifi calling, might make my decision to stay with them easier.

Ugh the wait for this is going to kill me. Hopefully it'll arrive a bit more than 3 days early. Moving from the iPhone 6 Plus and apple ecosystem.

Welcome aboard! It's going to be very different but it's going to be excellent!
The iPhone 4 was my favourite iPhone I owned and the peak for Apple imo. I actually owned a S4 for a week but had to return it as it was faulty. The 6+ has been good the past 2 years but I'm just bored with Apple spoon feeding us features and specs.
I was most worried about having an iCloud back up alternative and Samsung answered that today with triple the free storage I share between an iPhone, iPad and MacBook

I don't see why so much consternation about this phone. I'm obviously not a fan of Samsung smartphones and tablets but I'd be lying if I didn't say this seems like a beast of a device. Very attractive device with what will most certainly be the best camera and display in a phone, along with tons extras not found on the Note 5--wireless charging, USB-C, more internal storage plus expandable memory and waterproof. Stop comparing it to the Galaxy S7--it's not meant as an upgrade for that device. Next to the last Note, it's a very substantial improvement.

All that being said, there's nothing here to lure someone with my issues with Samsung devices as none of my problems with their devices have changed. Still has the same backwards capacitive button layout, has the curved display that I don't prefer, still has a software layer that doesn't fit my tastes. I've expressed my feelings about the Iris scanner as it's implemented here (button to wake, swipe, then hold the phone in the proper position??? Way too many steps to be more useful than other security methods) but I won't begrudge Samsung for pushing new technologies nor if someone else really has a need for it.

But my biggest gripe has to be with Samsung's timing for its release. In what is clearly their desire to beat the new iPhones to the market by a few weeks, Note 7 owners are getting their brand new phone with a nearly year old version of the base OS and won't likely see Android N until next Spring at the earliest. I know many don't care about timely software upgrades as much but they're at the top of my wish list and I'll sacrifice a bit on the hardware front for them. If Samsung has waited another month or so, their would be very little to criticize about the Note.

Again, just my personal opinion and preferences. If I was a Note fan, I suspect I'd find very little to complain about.

I'm not really sure what Samsung's cloud service will do for you, but I haven't had any sort of official back up in a couple years, just using regular Android because: Google Photos backs up all of your photos, unlimited for free... Google backs up all your contacts.... All of your app installs are tied to your gmail account, so when you move to a new phone you can just re-install all of those same apps or choose which one's to re-install. I'm not sure what else Samsung Cloud will do for you that Google doesn't already do? For free at that... it just seems redundant. Now, I am sure there are certain Samsung specific things that Samsung will backup that Google won't, such as their note application. But with an Android phone, you may not even be on a Samsung on your next phone. Choice! :D
