Well if it tracks your eyes, I think it is safe to assume it requires a component to do that. A component capable of doing that would be the front facing camera. Keeping the front facing camera on the entire time would logically use more battery than if the front facing camera wasn't on the entire time.

..I think it is safe to assume..

It's never safe to assume. Wait until it's released, then say it's a gimmick, neat, stupid, etc..

A phone that tracks eye movement. With a Google OS. Where nobody reads the License Agreement. And all data on which they can get their hands on is stored on servers and used for advertising purposes.

Sorry bro, pass.

Turn off the feature. Done.

Yeah, it open new opportunity for ads placement: they can see if you see ads. If they get really nasty they can move the ads window where you look so force the ads into your eyes. But that would be evil.

But I general: as long I would have control to use it or not I'm fine with the feature. Will not make me jump ship but on this one they have an advantage to Apple. Good for Samsung.

Way to take it out of context. So tell me, if you think they won't use a front facing camera to track where your eyes are looking, what will they use?

Why are you discussing the front facing camera with me? I've never brought that up. I'm just saying wait until an official announcement of this particular feature before we bash or praise it.

I honestly don't see the use of it on a phone, but I'll wait till it's released.

I mean, you hand is already holding your phone so your fingers is right next to the screen.

Is this meant for reading in the bathroom? :D

I can see how this might be useful on a desktop, laptop, or TV where you hands are either on the keyboard or not within easy reach of the screen. On a phone, I don't really see the point.

The beauty of choice. So simple. So empowering.

And yet apparently utterly terrifying to some.

Its very sad and strange but yeap seems a lot of people have problem with choices, its like they dont want to have any control.

Hence the "isheep" comment that got very popular months ago here.

You indirectly brought it up by saying it wasn't safe to assume in response to what I said, essentially saying that what I said would be wrong, which was talking about the camera. So yes, you indirectly brought it up by saying it isn't safe to assume that Samsung will use the camera for eye tracking. When they clearly will.

Its so simple. In order to track your eyes, the phone will use the front facing camera. What's the big deal?

You think eye scrolling is more useful than Passbook?

Yes. I scroll constantly on my phone.

Passbook? Meh. I try to use my iPhone to 100% of its capability but I have no use for passbook.

First there is only one app I ever use electronic scanning for and that's discover card. I don't need a single item organized better.

I use to use electronic boarding passes years before apple invented a way to better organize it for me.

And on a more personal note, and my colleges feels the same we HATE electronic boarding passes. If the boarding line isn't moving just look for the guy trying to scan his phone. I was behind a guy the other day that took 5 minutes trying to accomplish this 2 second task, he was asked to step out of line while he got the actual boarding pass out of his carry on. I'm not saying it always goes like that but I see it quite often. It's usually the guy laying on the floor of the airport charging his phone from a vacuum cleaner outlet trying to save battery just for the sole purpose of scanning his phone.

The apps that support it I rarely use. I eat healthy so Starbucks and dunkin donuts are out. Only other places I goto on occasion aside from airlines is target and Walgreens but don't really have much use for passbook there.

I haven't tried fandango yet but once again why do I need to? Just use the fandango app. Oh it pops up when I get to the theater?! Wooooow thanks for reminding me I just drove to a movie theater to watch a movie!

Maybe I'm just missing something. Or maybe there just aren't good apps that apply to me. I would use passbook if it was in my daily routine. For example if there was a scanner at my gym and I could just scan my phone to check in. That would be useful to me, it pops up when I get there and scan and off I go.

I tried to use the fandango once. First of all the pass did not come up when i was at the theatre for some reason... i had to open passbook and even then it would not scan via the scanner they used... i looked like a dork.

I've never used Passbook but I still think it's more useful than eye scrolling because I recognise the potential. Once Passbook actually starts supporting things I use, I'll use it all the time.

To each their own though! :)

Honestly, I dont know. You keep wanting to start something over nothing. So because I said we shouldn't assume that a feature is a positive or a negative (nothing to do with the camera) until we actually see it means that I'm calling you out and saying you're wrong? I'm sorry you interpreted that way. That wasn't my intent.

I think there must be something there considering Samsung has decided to copy it - WITHOUT NFC no less....

I personally use Passbook plenty and eagerly await more uses....Best Buy for one needs to get all over this....their rewards program is the ideal situation for the way passbook is currently configured.

I use AA boarding passes and my AAdvantage card for work travel, Starbucks for my drinks and to keep track of my balance, fandango for movie tickets, target gives me coupons, and Walgreens for rewards points.

Ever since Starbucks fixed their app, the location reminders work great and are quite accurate.

Can't wait to be able to get my Rangers' season tickets digitally as well so I can save the paper copies....like to have them saved in case I witness something historic!

Oh there's defiantly something there and I can see Samsung making a huge success of it. Plus I wouldn't say they have copied it, there making a different version along the same idea.

People often misquote about the NFC, Samsung said they wont launch the app with NFC, but it will be added at a later date.

It would seem the slow start of passbook is driven by the relatively small number of businesses taking advantage of it.....

How would Samsung be able to fix this if Apple can't get people on board? Apple has the larger consumer base, the "easier" app development....

If we are talking about Apple's design of the app itself, Samsung seems to be modeling theirs (at least with the icon) after Apple's anyway.

IMO, if the "passbook" concept takes off, it will be successful for both Apple and Samsung....I don't see how Samsung would make it big while Apple's iteration continued to "disappoint".

I seem to quote you a lot :)

passbook gets a lot of hate, but I have to believe the people who hate on it never use it. I store airline tickets, movie tickets, and starbucks on it. It is way better than having to open each app, and it looks really clean. Maybe when it first came out it was bad b.c it didn't work that great, but that was a month at most. Now it works flawless in my experience.

Also, pulled from that article "6 months and still failing" (which actually says a lot of good things about passbook).

"out of the 1,500 e-ticket buyers, 12 percent chose to receive their tickets via Passbook. This year, 13 teams will allow customers to buy paperless tickets and redeem them through Passbook, according to reports."
