OTA Update

Copied this from androidcentral posted at 7:15pm on their homepage:

24MB over the air update rolling out now for Sprint's newest smart phone
If you were lucky enough to pick up a Sprint Galaxy S4 over the weekend, you'll want to start checking for a system update. Build L720VPUAMDL is pushing out, checking in at about 24MB. A scouring of the Internet doesn't seem to tell us anything about this update or what it addresses, so your guess is as good as ours. We assume it's a standard last-minute patch that we see with many new devices, and won't bring any new functionality or make any big changes.

In any case, you'll probably want it so be sure to check Settings > More > System Update to update the Samsung firmware.

Yep give disabling s-voice a try. Actually all your disabling is the home button launch of s-voice (you can still use the app if you want to) but it certainly made home button far more responsive.

Look forward to seeing Copter :)

Don't have Pandora, its not available here to try.

The little bastard

OMG, I'm still setting it up, got around 6PM tonight.

I don't know what Samsung did, not sure what it is but this doesn't feel cheap like the S3/Note2. I'm amazed what they pulled off here.

Samsung does take it a step further, even their Remote IR app is better than hTc's One. It's not limited to TV, Cable & Receiver. I was also able to set up my Sony BD760 Blu-ray Disc player and Toshiba HD-XA2 HD DVD player. Last and certainly not least, my Apple TV 3! LOL

As you can tell, I'm more excited about the IR Remote than the "Gimmicks" they included. I played with it for a few minutes, I like it but not a game changer.

I will installing Nova Launcher Prime in a few days, I guess I'm wondering why didn't Samsung add Gestures to launch Apps. This is one of the reasons why I love NLP. It would've much better than Air Flow.

Overall, I'm VERY impressed but I still want Samsung to really make BIG changes for the Note 3.

@bembol if you disable the s-features, how is the phone performance?

If it is not laggy, may be it is a good indication of a keeper? :)

Indeed, he is! I would like to add a pic of Timber the Bichon but have no clue how to attach one from my iPhone or iPad to a post here :)

Need to use the tapatalk forum app to do things like that. Yeah silly / ironic actually that we can't easily upload pictures from our iPads onto this forum via the browser.

MacRumors should have a mobile app themselves for iOS.

For that price buy the octa core version buddy

The snapdragon version will have much better support for cyanogenmod and aosp roms. Theres apparantly performance issues with the octacore version at the moment because of the a7/a15 core switching.

After 5 full recharge cycles the S4 battery still is considerably worse than my iPhone 5 battery. Hope that changes soon.

Both phones charged to 100% and unplugged at 08 a.m.:
Iphone 5: about 75% at 5 p.m.
S4: about 30-40% at 5 p.m.

Typical usage:
60min internet browsing in train
Some calls
Some photos and videos
Whats App messages
1 mail account synced every 30min
All battery eaters deactivated...NFC, Smart features, ...
The display is set to lowest acceptable brightness.

Were you expecting much different? Only Android phones that can touch the iPhone 5 in battery without turning the brightness way down and babying it all day are the Razr Maxx and Note 2. I get 7 hours of use with 14-16 hours off the charger easy on my iPhone 5

But did you disable those s-features?

Disable those and I think your battery life will be much better. I never disabled gps or wifi on my s3 and it still trailed my iPhone 5 by only about 5-10% under same usage with auto brightness and stock rom with no tweaks or root. Certainly a gs4 can do better than gs3, no?

Turn off smart features and NFC when your not using it.

My s4 battery seems as good as my iPhone 5 & HTC One.

MacRumors should have a mobile app themselves for iOS.

You can upload the picture to attachments (up to 5 files) and post then on the desktop version of macrumors on idevices.

Few more pics

OK so I didn't realise yesterday the photos I had taken in 16:9 were actually only 9mp. Messing with settings today on beach this morning I realised this and so here are some snaps. Some at 9mp 16:9 and some at 13mp 4:3

phenomenal photos for a phone

They are very good in fairness. In almost every other regard I prefer the HTC One as a handset, but the camera is IMHO a lot better on the SGS4 in daylight shots.

I'm torn..... Either way I go I am making trade-offs. If only the One had the SGS4's camera. That would have been one orgasmic phone.
