I'm betting the S6 Edge demand exceeds all expectations by a very big margin. Everyone I know, and I mean EVERYONE, that has looked at the demos has gone away saying they will be getting the Edge hands down. In fact Samsung is said to be ramping up production on the S6 Edge because increased demand by partners. We shall see...

Saying you would prefer the edge hands down and parting with the extra $$ 150-200 per model for it is a different thing indeed however.

Likewise demand will likely always be higher than supply simply because Samsung have said themselves that supply constraints will be a factor due to the fabrication process / constraints of a curved display.

I still think whilst people would prefer to have the Edge - the extra cost for nothing really more than cosmetic difference will make the 6 still the far bigger seller to the same level as iPhone 6 & 6+ sales differences (3/1)

M9 & Edge compared

is it me or does the Edge miss a lot of interactions (swipes from sides) and why is it some of the animations seem choppy or out of place such as app drawer one.

I would love M9's software in the Edge. O to dream...

I noticed this when I had a play around with the edge at the Samsung store today. It missed lots of touches and I had to press really hard to get things to register.

That's not good. That could end up easily peeing me off quickly. Erica Griffin raised that too in one of her videos I believe. I definitely need to see and feel the Edge before parting with cash (normally I'd buy unseen - but given the cost of the handset even impulsive me can not do that).

I got to play around with eh S6 Edge tonight at BB. The Samsung rep let me play around with a black model. WOW....so light and that display screen! Amazing! I swiped left and right like 20 times and not one hesitation. The edge screen was so responsive. Went through the camera and app drawer. No hesitation at all very very fast and fluid.
Checked the memory usage for you MRU. It had 1.6GB unused ram of the 3GB installed. Didn't have time to do much else but it is a very nice phone!

My only concern is that is too small for me. I have the Note 4 and 6+ and am pretty used to the large screens. I guess I won't know until i get one and use it! :)

thanks buddy for that :)

Does it feel noticeably smaller than our iPhone 6 plus and note 4s then ? 5.1 v 5.5/5.7?

----------

Seems like there is high demand on S6 Edge. Maybe that's the reason why the price is too high on it?
http://www.techtimes.com/articles/4...ne-maker-running-out-of-glass-for-display.htm
no its because the screen costs more to produce and has smaller yield rate than regular version component.

more expensive components = more expensive device.

Noticeable smaller and lighter than my N4 and 6+. I was a stark difference between the 6+ i had on me at the time and the S6e. Funny only .4 inch difference between the S6e and the 6+ but it seemed like 2 inches or more. Night and day difference.

Yeah that might be what happens in the end. :)
But 6 months is an eternity to wait for anew phone! :)

... I'm still rocking an iPhone 4s. It is approaching four years old.

You have an iPhone 6+ which is ~6 months old, and a Note 4 that is perhaps ~4 months old? And you can't wait for another 6 months?

Priorities, man. Priorities.

Oh i know....i have a problem. There is no 12 step program for my addiction. No focus group. No mentor to keep me on track.
I am a smartphone addict! There i said it! :)

Last year I had more than 14 phones all told. This year maybe only 4 or 5. I am trying to tame the beast within! :)

My biggest sigh moment right there. Looks like TW didn't hit the gym after all. Yes there's likely CM, root, de-bloat options but meh.

Oh god it was as bad as I feared.

Vodafone Ireland confirmed that the Subsidised price of theS6 Edge 64gb is €499 ($550) on my current €40p/m 24 month contract

Ouch. €50 more than I paid for my Note 4 off contract...

******* me. My provider THREE just put pre-order prices up. What I don't get - 64 or 128GB are the same price. 49 quid.

I don't get that at all. If it is running and running extremely fast. Has 3GB of ram and has 1.6 free ram that is not being used......what exactly is the problem? Unused ram is wasted ram. Check the phone out in person. It is one of the fastest responsive phones I have tried. It benchmarks faster than any other major smartphone out there. TW has been toned down. It has no lag no hesitations was faster than my 6+ when doing a side by side UI comparison. I don't get all the TW hate in these threads especially from people that have not handled touched the phone.

Can only agree with this, screen was super responsive, I didn't notice any lag.

Also the video which shows a slight bleed on the side of the curved screen, in my opinion after using the device briefly is only caused when you move the phone from side it side (possibly when the light catches it). When I looked at it front on, it wasn't noticeable.

Really is the best phone I have held / looked at.

Just played around with three different Edges... White, Gold and Black (I think it was black).

OMG. It is STUNNING.

Damn that's the first phone I've held in a long time that's genuinely aroused lust in me.

FWIW, one of them was laggy but the other two flew with no problems. But it's demo unit stuff, no need to worry.

The shape is unbelievable, the most beautifully designed phone EVER, in my opinion. It's a jump up. Viewing angles were great, and the camera seemed pretty ace (very fast). The Gold one was so stupidly blingy that I actually want it.

The ONLY thing that really worries me is how shatterproof the screen would be, I mean that thing is obviously exposed. There's carrying your phone "naked" and then there's the S6 Edge.

One drop could kill that thing. But then again, my S4 would just bulletproof, and that's the only phone were I felt OK without a screen protector.

But the Edge, I'd definitely feel nervous about throwing it around.

BRAVO Samsung, bravo.

I have tried many Android phones and bought a lot of flagships. None of them came more than close to iPhone. I currently have an iPhone 6, but it seems so far behind the S6 Edge I tried in the store. And that multi window feature that finaly works well - so great for youtube/facebook while browsing. And the edges and the toned down touchwiz.

THAT DESIGN AND FEEL :O

It is the best phone ever. Period.

Forgot to post my edge impressions here:

I also played with the Edge, and I must reiterate how immersive the screen is.

I think I know what it is. The Edge makes the screen feel like it's protruding outward from the device (even though it's obviously not). The tapered and curved edge screen makes it "pop" so to speak, and I think that's why using the device feels so engrossing and immersive. It's nothing but screen. And it's glorious.

Too bad about the price. Though it's understandable given the technology. (Again, if this was an Apple product, no one would be surprised by the pricing).

Alright, time to chime in with my $0.02, FWIW.

Just spent about 15 minutes playing with both the standard S6 and the edge model. And, as I've mentioned in the past concerning these two models, I'm probably in the minority in that I'd choose the standard S6, hands down.

The edge is certainly the more stunning design of the two, but the ergonomics of the device are terrible. Because of the waterfall edge, the metal frame is miniscule and very sharp, not comfortable to hold at all. The curved edge is cool to look at, until you actually look at content--whatever is displayed on the edge is slightly off color compared to the front of the screen--likely different due to viewing angle, but not certain. Regardless, I found it distracting. Second, there is very limited added functionality and I also found registering any gestures that require a swipe from the edge more difficult as you had to basically reach over where the typical edge would be and down the side.

Now before I'm promptly accused of just being a Samsung hater, I found the experience on the standard S6 to be entirely different and quite good, but as this thread is dedicated specifically to the edge model, I'll post my comments over in the S6 thread.

The S6 edge is certainly a looker but I found the user interaction worse than the S6 and thus not worth the premium price tag. Again, just my first impressions from an admittedly short time with the device.

Same here. I walked away from Best Buy convinced that the S6 was a much better feeling device in the hand. The S6 felt very secure in the hand because of the flat sides.

Also, when I first picked up the Edge, swiping between home screens didn't work for a few seconds, and then it suddenly started working. After that I wasn't able to repeat the problem again, and I tried another Edge and it didn't have that problem.

argh..... Ok you guys are making me really think I need to see this in person before purchase - but there isn't much chance of that unfortunately here - ill be buying blind.

There's a €200 difference in price for me between the Edge and the S6.

Seriously MRU, you want to try to get some hands-on time before purchasing, especially with that price difference. When I stopped by the Samsung area earlier today, the beauty of the edge is immediately noticeable. My affection however, quickly dissapated once I picked it up. The sides are really sharp, made worse by the metal frame, what little there is, curving away towards the back so what you predominately grip is the point where the curved glass meets the metal.

And as far as benefits of the curved edges, what Samsung has added on are little gimmicks--the few contact bubbles and the mobile device equivalent of what tuners do to their old Honda Civics with LED strips. The detriments far outweigh any benefits, IMO, and I consider myself to be reasonably objective regarding mobile devices.

The standard S6 on the other hand, was a joy--and you know that's hard for me to say about any Samsung device. ;) If I was in the market for a new Android phone, I have to admit, <gulp>, it would likely be the standard S6.
