System memory on my Note 4 is 7.34gb
System memory on my Moto X 2014 is 5gb
System memory on my iPhone 6+ is 6gb approx

S6 Edge 15.26gb ? wowsers.

Something seems amiss. Why would TouchWiz suddenly double in size while being scaled down. Even if it's not as scaled down as we'd all like, it shouldn't have doubled in size. I suspect something is amiss with the test units. Don't test units always have some sorta extra programming where when the phone is idle, it'll run some demo, or video or something?

Anyway, early reviews have not mentioned an issue with the OS taking up an unimaginable amount of storage space, so I wouldn't worry about this until we hear more from actual reviews.

----------

Pretty sure because it's a unit in stores.

Cannot believe Samsung scrap all they do with the S6 with a 15GB OS.

Precisely. Doesn't make any sense whatsoever.

However, can't make any defense for the prices we're seeing. Though I guess it is new tech and no one else on the market has anything like it.

Who does Samsung think they are? Apple? ;):D

But in all seriousness, if this was an Apple product, no one would be as surprised.

IDK....but maybe it is the demo videos that constantly runs of those in store units?

That's my guess.

Sizing down, even if it isn't as sized down as we like, should not equal double the OS size. It just makes zero sense. All things equal, the simplest answer is likely the correct one.

The demo unit's programming is where I'd put my guess.

People had the same concerns with the S5 because somebody saw the demo software on the phone and began to cry wolf about storage space.

The S5 ended up with 11gb of space internally when consumers got their hands on the device while people i stores saw as little as 6gb free. There is no reason TouchWiz on the S6 which is heavily debloated can take up 15gb of system memory.

I could buy out my contract and it would cost less than buying the edge out right, but I really want 128GB if there is no expandable memory.

Screen cap of Android Authority's S6 review:

System memory no where near 15GBs. The Edge variant cannot be much more than what's here.

Yeah that seems normal. Not exactly massively different to the Alpha which was 5.8gb for system on mine .

The Alpha had hardly any pre-installed Samsung apps so it makes sense that it would be around the same.

Something seriously amis with S6 Edge if (and must stress IF) it does turn out to be like that (15.26gb) Samsung would need taking into a dark room and get a slap on their botties....

Just looking at Samsung.de and they are offering much more options than Samsung UK.

You can get a

32gb Edge in all the colours with a free wireless charger for €849
64gb Edge in all the colours with a free wireless charger for €949
128gb Edge in all the colours with a free wireless charger for €1049

32gb S6 in all the colours with a free wireless charger for €699
64gb S6 in all the colours with a free wireless charger for €799

no 128gb available currently.....

Better than UK pricing (which Irish pricing gets lumped with despite us having the Euro)

I wonder if there is someway I can order from Germany and have it delivered to Ireland. Irish Samsung site doesn't even have pre-ordering or pricing at all.

Might have to look into that. Emphasis on might..... Still head and heart are too busy warring with each other.

EDIT!!!! Nope need to have a German Address and a German registered payment method. :(

Yep exactly. We have had sooooooo many phones that its the 'something new' that really is the appeal in the Edge. 'If' the Note 4 does finally get a decent lollipop update that includes the changes to stock apps as on the S6 it's impossible for me to justify getting anything other than the Edge as essentially it would be device repeating and not temper my appetite, I'd know I'd be settling and that would make me crave the S6 Edge more so...

Good news, I got a German address and payment method. Bad news, at sums like that, I'd require cash in advance. I would not expect you to pay a random bloke such as myself so I guess I can't really help :-(

But at prices like that I don't see myself switching every 2 years, more like 3 or 4.

At least Samsung phones are subsifized significantly compared to iPhones

The bad thing about the Edge is that glass will break if it falls and lands on the side instead of a dinged up trim, and you know the screen will be outrageously expensive

Galaxy S6 and S6e to be in BB stores next weekend.

Next weekend at BB stores in the US.....

Next weekend, it could be your chance to walk into a Best Buy store and experience the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge for the very first time.

The company will setup display units of the handset on March 27 in stores across the country. On the Android subreddit, /u/pearbobber claimed to have spoken with a Samsung representative at a Best Buy store who said the retailer would also accept pre-orders on that date. The official launch for Verizon, AT&T, and Sprint would come on April 10.

The Samsung representative also mentioned to the curious consumer that a free device would be included with pre-orders. It is likely that a free wireless charging pad was being hinted at.

That's pretty much where I'm at too, I really want one of the new galaxy's, but fear it will be too similar to my note that I'll regret getting after the newness wears off. Same reason I'm probably not getting the M9. I guess I'll be waiting until I can get a rediculus deal on an edge or maybe an lg g4. If I'm lucky, Sony will finally release something here in the states.

Ever since the M7, I always thought TechRadar and PhoneDog kissed too much butt towards HTC. Now that Aaron from PhoneDog left for HTC, perhaps less brown nosing from one of them sites.

After seeing reviews for the M9, it seems both the regular S6 and M9 will be forgotten more during the latter half of the year. And the S6 edge like the M7 and OPO before it will be remembered better in the longer term for its unique screen design.

I am really NOT looking much from the LG G4, Sony Xperia Z4, and few others. Maybe Note 5 but nothing completely different. For heatseekers who want the hottest tech, S6 edge is the way to go. This was Samsung’s grand slam hit or KO punch. The other two were just bunts or jabs. Nothing really fresh and worse in battery life.

The best thing about the edge, from my personal usage, is the fact that the screen is so immersive. It makes you completely forget that there are top and bottom bezels and just draws you into whatever's happening on your screen. It truly feels like you're using and looking at nothing but the screen. Think sort of like a gorgeous wide screen television.

And the fact that there's more of the screen to reach for really helps sell this immersive feeling. This goes beyond just being bezel-less.

I had zero expectations for a good price with the S6 EDGE. The Note 4 Edge was the reason. I think the AT&T variant at BB is $950 for the Note 4 Edge!
