I have the Verizon white edge 32GB on pre order. Let's see how it stacks up against my Note 4 and 6+. It might be too small!!
Yeah I am keeping my iPhone 6+, and the nexus. Still love my iPhone 6+, but have to give android a try too. Hopefully wear comes to iOS soon.

I really don't think I could go back to anything under 5.5 inches

That's my fear too is that screen will be too small. Might have to wait for the Note 5

Yeah that seems like what a lot of people are saying. I am going to rock the iPhone 6+ plus and nexus for a while before I do anything else. Just have to figure out my corporate email on my nexus. When I connect today it said the server required all kinds of access to my phone. My iPhone never did that

It's a valid concern. Playing with the S6, S6 Edge and my Note 4 side by side, the screens feel so small on the S6 phones, but the feel in the hand is much nicer than the Note 4.

I don't know how it will play out. Will I be able to adjust to the smaller screen or will it feel so small i won't like it? Can't say right now. I really won't know until I get one and use it as my daily driver.

I know for me that I adjust pretty quick to smaller screens. Stick an iPhone 5 in my hand and it feels strange for a day and then I am rolling along pretty quick.

I also agree with Jon Ive in the more ergonomic a phone is the more likely you are to use it, and for me the S6 feels nicer than the Note 4.

Were you looking to get the S6 or the S6 edge? How did they compare in the hand for you?
I liked them both. The S6 has a great feel in the hand similar to the 6+. The S6 edge has a thinner edge and feel in the hand and will take a little getting used to.
But as you say if it is designed well then the screen size difference won't matter once it is used for a bit.

----------

I do NOT recommend anyone trying that! WOW If the S6 Edge is indeed that tough I am sure there will be a ton of other videos to prove that out.
My thing with youtube is there are so many videos that contradict each other that I only rely on people I know and follow that do reviews on a regular basis.

I had the S6 the S6 Edge and Note 4 all lined up side by side. I agree that the S6 Edge feels odd in the hand because of the angular edges on both sides. Nothing a case wont sort out.

If you closed your eyes and was handed an S6 standard, you'd swear you were holding an Apple product.

Now that was pretty impressive. Full of sudden rage, but impressive.

Totally agree on the blind test. It's a very nice feeling handset!

I was at Best Buy yesterday to get a look at the S6 Edge.

Wow, what a disappointment. I was hoping the edges would be like the one that the Note 4 Edge has. But on the S6 Edge, it feels... pointless. There's no good reason for the edges to be there, and it doesn't actually make the screen feel bezelless -- there's a black line at the edge (the Note 4 Edge's edge doesn't have that black line). The "desktop" (whatever you call it) also doesn't terminate at the flat point like the Note 4 Edge (the curved part is given to those buttons and stuff). It just continues over the curve, making the screen look weird at the left and right edges.

Guess I don't get why the curved edges are even there at all.

I also check one out at best buy yesterday. I didn't see a single benefit to the curved edges, it just made the phone feel awkward in hand.

I like the curved screen. I think it is evolutionary in that it is leading to other curved displays. rumor has it by 2016 Samsung will have foldable screen technology ready for a smartphone.
But if you realistically look at it and compare it to other materials smartphones are made of......do we need thinner and thinner phones? What's the purpose? Do we need alumium phones made of premium materials? What purpose is it? Is it aesthetics? Because it looks good? I think the curved displays fits this description too. Why because it looks good and has a wow factor that same as any other premium build material. Because for practical use all phones should be plastic. It would get damaged a lot less and show less wear and tear. Screens could be plastic as well. No more shattered glass screens when they get dropped.

Thanks for that link. I learned more from that one link that anything else I have read.

Do a lot of people actually put their screen face down?

Funny you mention it. Was asking myself the same question. I only ever put a phone face down when I had the UAG case on it so it isn't laying straight on the glass.

But I think honestly, I don't anymore, not since coloured LED notifications and quick glance.

I have the feeling I want the Edge because it is different and because I love the green colour . having said that, I cannot find any carrier in the UK actually selling it. Only Amazon.de got it on pre-order and who knows if that is really confirmed for Amazon or they may just guess they are getting the green one. Not that I fancy paying retail anyway.

Agree with both of you. I don't think I have ever put my phones face down.
I wonder if that feature would work with a flip cover?

It would have been nice if the Samsung reps at BB could get the features to work so customers could check what the article states.

Anyhow, if one is not going to use those features and buy for design only, ....

After briefly seeing both S6 variants at Best Buy today, I must say Samsung did a really nice job with the design. Without a doubt, best-looking Samsung smartphone ever.

Perhaps David Pierce, is correct. The edge seems pointless. It is not as pronounced as the Note edge and I tried finding the features to display it. But wow does it look good. I thought holding it would be a problem but there is enough bezel that prevents from accidental touches. This isn't as bad as the Sharp Aquos Crystal.

But the regular S6 which I've ignored since it was announced feels better in the hand and quite a looker itself. Only thing I don't like is the camera hump on both. But it looks just as good as the Xperia Z series and feel quite light without feeling cheap. And if you check the RAM usage, about 1.4 GB free avail with 700+ used. The S5 was vice-versa with already 1.2+ GB RAM used up. Feels very, very quick and smooth. Didn't try out the cam. Samsung have a winner in their hands. Two winners.

I agree, the edge portion seems much less useful than the Note 4. If people called the Note 4 edge a gimmick then the S6 is much more so IMO. I'm also disappointed in the edge still having a noticeable bezel, I'd rather have no edge and get rid of the bezel altogether. I don't know if I agree with Samsung's strategy to charge more for what is primarily an aesthetic function.

You wouldn't on those Best Buy builds. Some of the Edge functions can't be used on the Demo models. I noticed this and the Samsung in-Store rep, who was pretty knowledgable, admitted that was the case.

Only thing I don't like is the camera hump on both.

The camera hump will act as an impact point in a big way. I always use a case but for those that don't it's a concern.

Woah! I am impressed. Hope this is true for the s6 as well...! Go gorilla glass 4 and Samsung build quality!

Eat your heart out Samsung haters that said they can't build beautifu,l quality devices.

Good article.

I also want to reiterate what I said early, that I think the true unique experience of the edge is just in the mere usage of the screen itself. The immersive-ness, the feeling of almost nothing but screen(it feels like a "wide screen" device if that makes sense), the "pop" effect as if the screen is floating just above your device, the extra room making pull out menus and sliding gestures easier and more intuitive...

I think this is where the money will really be at for the edge; the day to day interaction of the screen.

I don't think any thought they couldnt, it was they wouldnt. Everyone knew Samsung had the chops to build a great phone like they did with the gs6, but that they didn't was the frustrating part. Imagine what the mobile space would look like if they had been building phones like this. Glad they finally stepped up and are living up to their potential.

I actually went back to check the demo again. Didn't have time to take photos and if I could, it would probably be pix of the display table as I don't plan on taking pix of random strangers.

There was another Asian lady with her son and talking to a Best Buy employee about the Samsung Gear watch on the opposite side of the S6/S6e. I heard her say something about her Note II. When she was ready to leave, she caught the S6 edge and went WHOA! What's this? So beautiful she said. The Best Buy employee mentioned it will be available by April 10th.

Whatever you might see in pictures and videos, it looks just as good in person, if not better. It gave me the same WOW moment when I first saw the HTC One M7 two years ago in person. And neither black or white is my preferred choice in color. I want plat gold or emerald green. Samsung did an amazing job with Project Zero and its new design language.

But the longer I held the S6/S6e, the more I actually thought about the Note 4 and Nexus 6 for a bigger screen. The S6e felt easy to handle although a bit sharper than the regular S6. Only slightly narrower, shorter, and thinner than my current daily driver. But after seeing that FAVORITE SMARTPHONE thread, I started thinking of longevity, durability, and sentimental attachment.

Something like Note 4 would last longer for me to really feel attached to. S6e is a beautiful phone but more like a fashionista device. A fling thing. In a year, I would get bored of the design and start complaining about running out of storage space or whatever. Note 4 for longevity. S6e for fashion trendsetters.
