I'm not a fan of swift key. I think its ugly and their gesture typing is atrocious (when trying to swipe "too" it almost never ever gets it and always gives me "to" instead. At least with the google keyboard it'll suggest to or too for you to pick from on the suggestion bar. Swiftkey just automatically picks "to" for you. Ughhh). Great for thumb taping though.

I don't know guys. You all know I wanted to like this device. The reality is that its not up to snuff. The under the hood lag that affects the keyboard and other things... It's gonna bother me forever.

I'm on google now launcher BTW.
I'm first to criticise a device (and usually get flamed for it) but must say I haven't experienced this keyboard lag at all and I am using Samsung's stock keyboard.

Have you tried clearing the keyboards app cache, and likewise as this is affecting other keyboard apps - try doing something system wide such as change default language from US English to maybe UK English and see if it makes any difference before switching back.

Likewise you could try doing a wipe cache partition in recovery and see if that sorts it.

------

So far my biggest issues are

'Fingerprint reader is inconsistent. Will work well for a while initially before getting near useless with a success rate of around 20%

System ram usage remains consistently high and app refreshes happen too much for a device with 3gb ram. Yes they refresh fast, but doesn't help when the refresh drops me out of an app such as Tapatalk back to the tab screen rather than in last post.

Battery life has been meh! Getting an average of 2.5 - 3hrs sot and often significantly less. Basically less battery than the Galaxy Alpha for me. System tells me no app is using significantly high resources.

Those are my woes currently.

I'll try all that but maybe I type faster than you? The iPhone keyboard can't keep up with me either.

The one plus can.

In general, not looking promising. All these little annoyances are adding up.

I don't know how any of you are not experiencing lag.

My s6 definitely lags and gets hung up. The keyboard is particularly bad.

Didn't you give me a hard time before these phones released with how much I disliked my experience with Samsung and touch wiz and now you are preaching the exact sentiments of my concerns with these phones software?

Not being a jerk but walking into a Samsung device purchase anyone with any experience with TW needs to know there will be lag and resource management issues. Even if a small amount. This unfortunately seems to hold true for these beautiful devices as well and I'm sorry you are having issues.

Burn me once TW, shame on you. Burn me twice...

No I'm used to stock devices with google keyboard too and I do type fast so that's not the factor. The keyboard on mine is definitely as responsive as google keyboard on my nexus 6 and moto X 2014.

If push comes to shove do a factory restore and see of the issue persists before you decide not to keep it.

Look up for the system diagnostic tools (its a dialer code combination) and see if multi touch is working properly too.

Did I? Show me. I don't remember giving you a hard time specifically because of your past Samsung experiences. Genuinely don't remember. Show me?

I have my issues with TW resource management, app drawer animation and app drawer icon arrangement, and so far battery life /SOT. But haven't had issues with lag at all.

Would love stock android on my S6e however with a few Samsung extras such as people edge and adapt sound for audio.

However stock android doesn't always mean great battery life either as my Nexus 6 would testify. But memory management remains unparalleled compared to TW.

Was about to say this. If it's the same then send it back and use a phone that doesn't disappoint or infuriate.

I'm not experiencing lag or keyboard issues but others can. Maybe my apps and setup are the difference (I know that shouldn't matter).

All I can compare to is my wife's OnePlus One. No difference to me in scrolling fluidity or keyboard Samsung vs Google) just the S6 loads things a bit faster depending on the app.

There has been a Samsung Push update released which is supposed to help everything out (inc battery life).

Ugh, i hate the Google launcher! It needs an upgrade so bad.
I wish they would give it notification badges at the very least.

It is quite vanilla, and I agree with badges being needed!

But the Google Now swipe left screen just gets better every month, and when my phone completely bricked (tried to encrypt it, it died lol), everything came back perfectly due to the Google Now Launcher backups - which was super useful.

It's not perfect but right now it suits my needs better than anything else. My wife actually loved most of TouchWiz. Didn't like TouchWiz much myself, and for some reason I don't like Nova much either.

That's the nice thing about Android, eh. Choice.

Return it......maybe it is not the phone for you. We all have different wants and needs and preferences. If you like the OPO then that is the phone for you! :)

Yeah I may. Very disappointed in a number of things. But at the same time there are many things I like about it. Form factor. Camera. Headphone jack on the bottom. Design.

Maybe should wait for the next xperia z...

The G4 is out in a couple of weeks too! OPO2 out in a few months too.
This is the beautiful thing about an open platform. If one OEM doesn't satisfy your needs there is another OEM with a little bit different product that just might do the trick for you. :)

Not a big fan of what lg is doing but yeah I suppose you're right. If I'm gonna go 5.5 inch then I might as we'll keep my one plus.

PS. I am still experiencing lag when typing on the google keyboard. It's ridiculous. Especially when backspacing. It'll hang for just a second and then suddenly backspace rapidly as if trying to catch up. Just happened when replying to this post. Can't believe no one else is seeing this.

I may have to do a factory reset...

I respect your opinions from reading your posts. So not disagreeing with you. But from all the others that have had this phone you are the first i have heard that has that much lag. My S6e doesn't lag at all. So you might have a bad unit or something else is going on. Don't know. But as other have said maybe replace it? Maybe try a factory reset and set it up as new and try it again after the dust has settled so to speak.

Mine arrived this morning so have been playing with it....

Zero lag, really! Maybe you just got unlucky?

In terms of the device, wow it's beautiful but not sure it's for me.

That glass back seems awfully fragile and I've gotten used to be able to not wrapping my phones in cotton wool.

Whether I keep it or not, Samsung have done a remarkable job, it's a stellar phone.

to anyone who has the galaxy s6 or Note 4 edge . Does the edge screen add any extra functionality to the phone or is it just a design statement?

The only benefit I'm getting from the edge screen is when apps have a slide-in feature (similar to the iPhone swiping from the edge to go back/forward). It feels so natural to slide from the curved display.

Aside from that, it's pure aesthetics. However, I knew this was the case and still ponied up the extra hundred for it ;)

No, it just feels good to hold and looks cool. Honestly I'm thinking of returning it after few days of using it. I'm missing the screen size of my Note 4.

I mean it adds a couple little tweaks like the night clock and favorite people, but all in all it doesn't add anything that makes the edge a "must have".

I do miss the extra screen on my N4. But i don't miss the extra bulk. I am enjoying be able to use a phone one handed again. But at the same time I am really excited to see what the Note 5 will be.....

More reason than ever they will carry over these premium bits to the Note line.

Grand. Just got the official Samsung fabric flip case for the edge today. Feels very nice.

Does it provide enough protection for you though? I like it, but Samsung charges a premium for their cases.

Yeah it offers decent protection and it only cost me €22 off eBay ....

Considering the simple spigen dot capsule was €12 for just a tpd plastic back, €22 wasn't expensive really.

Yep, choice is very nice. The Google launcher has no customization either as far as icons or resizing them on he dock. Nova you can do a lot and it looks way nicer imo but , like you said, choices

TW is better than it has been and im giving it a go just to check everything out but ill probably go back to Nova.
