Dude...go back and read your own posts! Epic and I both have shown your own posts in this thread where you allude to sales defining a successful product.

Then after being shown metrics show how far behind the iPhone is in sales you change your tune.

You have said and or alluded that Apple doesn't need to add hardware/software/features to IOS/iPhone because of its sales position. Yet IOS/iPhone sales are very far behind Android.

Apple only sell one phone. The iPhone....you can only get the iPhone on one platform that is IOS. So.........watch carefully.......stay with me. IOS sales are iPhone sales/ Are you still with me? Samsung sells Android phones so here are the sales for you.......just between Samsung and Apple/IOS

Image

I've said sales are an indicator of a successful product. I'm still saying it. I've never said sales are the end all be all.

I didn't say Apple didn't need to add anything because of sales. I've said that Apple is already competing successfully. They typically add features with every new iPhone.

Let's go by products. Iphone vs another company product, like the Samsung Galaxy phones. Because the os is a part that makes up the product. I think that's fair, company product for company product.

Now you are changing the whole topic from what I was arguing with the the other two guys. Now you are backing away from the shipped versus sold from this quote

So your changing it around to saying Apple makes more money. You are correct they do. So what does that have to do with the topic of conversation? You did keep up witht he conversation i was having with the others right...you have the context? Because what you are saying is out of context.

----------

Sources?

I'm not changing anything, you don't really have a grasp of finance and I was merely correcting you.

I think jam is perhaps merging us into one poster.
Judging from his past posts wouldn't be his first error in judgment.

No...you were out in left field and out of context to the conversation.
But just so you know....I agree with you that Apple is probably the most profitable company in the world. I think they are neck and neck with Exon.
Then yes...they are masters at negotiating contracts. They have clout with their brand that is unmatched.

Here are generally the two definitions of the word 'compete':

com·pete
kəmˈpēt/Submit
verb

strive to gain or win something by defeating or establishing superiority over others who are trying to do the same.

This is Merriam's:

Full Definition of COMPETE

intransitive verb

: to strive consciously or unconsciously for an objective (as position, profit, or a prize) : be in a state of rivalry <competing teams> <companies competing for customers>

So, I think from those two definitions, we can say this:

1) Apple is competing very well in terms of profits/sales. I don't think anyone would argue this.

2) Samsung is competing very well in terms of offering more hardware/software features. Again, I don't think anyone would argue this.

The question, then, I think, is this: What are the threads about?

The two threads in question being: "Can Apple Catch Up to S6 Hardware" and this thread, simply titled "Galaxy S6."

Your honor, I motion to declare that the two threads we've been deliberating in is about...

Hardware/software features of the devices in question!

Ding ding ding. Case closed? I think so.

Winner winner, chicken dinner!!!

I'd even add that Samsung is also competing well in terms of sales/profits. Apple is not Samsung's sole competitor and while they haven't achieved the same level of profit as Apple, they are still making billions of $ through their mobile division, at a level any other company would kill to achieve.

Finally, totally agree with your final statement. These threads are so far off the rails, I had to go back and check to see exactly what the original posts were about. I'm exhausted just trying to quickly glance through all of the posts the last few pages. Time to redirect back to the original discussion or shut down what has basically just turned into bickering.

Jamezr, don't feed the trolls. If you stop feeding them they will eventually go away back to a land where everything is made by apple and runs iOS.

Yes, wouldn't disagree that Samsung is competing successfully too sales and profits wise, both compared to apple and especially compared to other android OEMs.

Would you recommend the S6 to someone who has used IOS since the first ipod touch? For the converts here, what features do you miss most that are not available on Android?

How about we make a seperate thread about these sales and success semantics, instead of clogging up other threads? Don't mind you all having the discussion, just this is the GS6 thread and its been all iphones sales related for the last two pages.

The S6 is awesome. What you'll miss is better developer support, slightly better performance (though the S6 might be faster), and Apple stuff (imessage, face time, ect.) The S6 has a camera that's at least on par, maybe better depending on your use case, slightly faster, nice hardware, and a better screen.

If you think this is bad, you should see the "Can Apple Catch up to the S6 Hardware" thread. Completely derailing the conversation with Apple sales, mucking up the point of discussing hardware/software features between the two phones. And being done by people who don't even own the S6!

Let's get back to talking about the S6.

Where is that software update? lol.

^This--completely spot on. For instance, I personally like the Apple-specific goodies like iMessage, FaceTime, Handoffs, Continuity, Photos and iCloud Photo sharing, but I also have a ton of Apple gear and the overwhelming majority of my regular contacts also use Apple, so I see a ton of benefit.

There are certainly alternatives to nearly all of this outside of Apple though--it'll really depend on your own personal use case whether you'll miss any or all of this. Best advice is give it a try, use the hell out of it during your return window, and then see if it fits your needs. We all have different use cases, priorities, and preferences so asking others their opinions will only have so much relevance.

Good summary.

I would also add to the list of advantages the S6 has includes wireless and quick charging, both things very handy. The double-tap to quick launch the camera also cannot go unmentioned (in fact, it feels like something Apple would've invented). Then there are the software advantages, like being able to customize your quick settings, or split screen and pop-out multitasking, themes, and a few other small things. Gesture to wake the device I find very handy as well when my hands are wet/dirty (like when I'm cooking).

Plus, I'd also add the advantages that the base Android has, including ability to set default apps, ability to share to any app you want, etc.

Another big thing to add to the side of the S6 (and Android in general) is that the core apps get updated individually by Google through the Play Store, and they get updated throughout the year. This is, in my opinion, a huge advantage over iOS' core apps getting one big major update annually. Google rolls out core app updates, big or small, whenever they are ready to do so. And system-wide updates come annually*.

I think this fact is often forgot, and so important when comparing timely updates.

*pending carrier and device, of course! ;)

I tried the S6 today for the second time. Didn't played with it for long the first time.

Build quality is great and screen is just unbelievable good. Aside from that I don't see much more.

Yes, it's fast, but still not as fluid as a Nexus. The transitions aren't as fluid some times. I still dislike TouchWiz on it. Takes too much RAM still, for example.

Very nice phone, but still has some annoyances (mainly TouchWiz).

Oh, and I also tried the edge, but only for like a minute because it was too difficult to handle. The round edges made it difficult to grip.

Nope, been doing my best to squelch the voices in my head urging me to purchase all sorts of new phones. ;) And since I'm a heavy user of the Apple only goodies in iOS and would miss them with a switch, I'm quite content with my 6+ for now.

So instead, I've decided to dabble in swatch watches--rocking both the Apple Watch and LG Urbane (yes, sometimes even simultaneously), putting them through their paces. I may even resurrect the watch review thread in a couple weeks to give a detailed comparison.

Nice! Look forward to reading your thoughts!
Wearables just don't capture my attention. I don't wear a watch so it doesn't pique my interest.

Well 10 days with my Z3 and I'm ready to get rid of my S6 Edge. Love the edges aesthetics but prefer the user experience on my Z3 and I'm getting far superior battery life. I was never able to get the battery life you guys get and my performance is still not as consistent as my nexus or Z3 so it's time to move on.

Will keep the money I make selling the edge put aside for whatever new temptation comes along, but right now I'm very happy with the Z3 overall.

I'm old enough where I developed my watch wearing preference before I relied on smartphones so I'm actually one of the few that feels naked if I leave the house without a watch on my wrist.

Lol...I'm probably right up there with you. I just don't like jewelry of any kind. But I gotta admit the smart watch space has captured may attention.
