OK, disabling GameService got rid of the game changing to adaptive saturated colors while playing.

Now I have to try changing DPI, work on what is killing my battery life, why are there green lines running down the edges of the display (I would have saw them on my S6 Edge + but I didn't).

After a few hours with the S7 edge, I can safely say that I am a convert. Apple is really going to have to do something VERY compelling to get me to switch back.

the samsung devices are always beautiful (I fell for a Note 4 more than a year ago), the biggest adaption is the OS.

- can the person live without facetime, hangout video calls quality is not the same.
- bad update cycles. Patched take eternity to reach customer because of the carriers delay.
- bloatware that consume system resources. Unlike iOS, android apps install services that runs independently from the app interface. I have two calendars apps, two fitness app (google & samsung). Each want to store data in their own cloud. I had a
- app quality is not as controlled as iOS.

I survived 18 months without iOS, and there are a few things I now prefer on Android, but it's not that easy.

The part in bold is my quandary. I really like stock Android but the hardware options have never been the highest quality available. Yes, the 6P seems to be a leap forward from past Nexus phones (though after seeing the video showing its shoddy build materials/quality, this is arguable) but just once I'd like to see a marriage of best hardware and stock Android. If Google would just dive head first into the hardware side themselves and put the same focus on it like do with some many other aspects of their business, we could actually see this scenario. Sadly, to date Google hasn't proven any consistent capabilities to produce good hardware.

I don't know if I trust HTC with the hardware this year, either, if that rumor turns out to be true.

Much less 3 years... =X

Just has a 1.05MB update on my GS7E here in the UK. Unlocked, international model. No real details on what it does but apparently classed as "critical".

Edit: Well it removes Samsung Pay from the UK models at the very least.

Lots of people selling their unused S7 edges for £500/£510 (RRP is £639) with no bites. They are probably selling their VR separately to slightly add to the final price.

If the S7 edge wasnt inferior to my S6 edge plus design wise I would have jumped on board.

Didn't think it would drop so much within a couple of days of release.

Nevertheless, its never a good idea to buy a Samsung phone at RRP.

Exactly why I refuse to even test drive many Android phones, and especially Samsung. If I cannot purchase an unlocked, carrier branding/bloat free version of your device, I won't be buying one--plain and simple. In the US, this really limits one's choices.

I'm on Tmobile so I'm lucky. Once I disable a few of Tmo's apps, I never worry about it again. Verizon and ATT are far greater offenders. I refuse to join those networks. And for more reasons than bloatware.

It really is a shame Samsung doesn't sell unlocked phones here.

Well guys I have made my decision to return the edge it's just to big for me.

I might stay with my gs6 or get the gs7

This is the first time the upgrade to me is not a big deal and now I know how the Apple guys feel when the s update comes and it's just a speed bump.

I may end up going that route too, but I won't know for sure until I get the damn Edge in hand.

Still no shipment email yet. I'm back ordered. Don't know when I'll get it at this rate. :(

And honestly, if I miss the promotions (Netflix, Gear VR) I may just go back to the S6 myself. Especially since all the feedback of the Marshmallow update are positive. The S6 would be getting Marshmallow almost a year out from the date of its release. That seems reasonable.

A year out is reasonable? No way, totally unreasonable for the biggest Android vendor

When does the iPhone get the next software update? Isn't it a year out from the release of the device, too? I'm not following why it's unreasonable for Samsung to update their S6 a year out from the S6's release, but acceptable for Apple to update their iPhone a year out after its release.

Or am I misunderstanding?

My screen doesn't come on when I get an email or text. The phone vibrates and pings, but the screen stays dark. Is that normal??

Also, I thought I'd be able to change the behaviour of the notification LED, but there doesn't seem to be that option...

That's quite some spin there. lol. You had me scratching my head literally with that logic.

Help me understand?

The only reason Samsung's MM update feels "late" is because Google is on a different timetable updating their software.

I'm all for updates arriving sooner, too. We're on the same side. But it's important to understand what's happening in the Android world, too.

Well that's exactly the point. You can't compare it... Apples and uh oranges. Apple always releases the latest OS at the same time as a nexus device. Nexus does the same. Samsung can't.

Right.

Completely agree with the Apples and oranges. You really can't compare.

Apple controls hardware and software and have far more clout with carriers. It's a potent and effective combination. And a worthy standard to attempt to follow. But at this point in time, it's something Google/Samsung likely cannot achieve. People need to understand that.

Regarding the one year thing, I'm merely saying, the S6 was released around this time last year. And the MM update is coming about a year after that date. That's what I mean is "reasonable" in my post earlier that he responded to. Given that timeframe, that's exactly the same as iPhones and Nexus devices.

Well Google can and does achieve it, by making the phones they test their OS with. And they leave out the carriers. Samsung could achieve it, well, they can't. They are far too diverged at this point. So once they get an OS, test it with their new phones, skin it, carriers get it, bloat it, release the phone with it, its old. And some (not everyone) consider that a bit unacceptable. But it is just the route they took.

Yep. Totally agree. And Samsung definitely ought to stand their ground more with carriers as they continue growing their brand. They really should start exercising their strength and weight. I don't foresee this happening anytime soon, unfortunately.

Until then, it's up to Google to provide a compelling Nexus device so that people can have:

-Software features of TW (Android N looking promising on this front!)
-Software cleanliness of stock and faster updates
-Top class hardware (HTC...? Not so sure...)

Until then, people have to choose. And the decision isn't always easy for everyone.

Never seen that without root. Does it persist a reboot? Others in that thread are saying the camera has black bars if not on 480. And Samsung Pay might not work. Any confirmation?

Looks like this will be a useful feature when it comes standard in N.

Everything seems flawless at 560dpi. Camera UI is perfect. No issues with Samsung Pay. Didn't find any issues with any apps so far. If you go 530dpi or lower, you might start to find some werid UI issues, as user in the link I posted mentioned. IMO, you wouldn't want anything smaller the 560dpi cause the status bar and text will become hard to glance at.

Did you use a Mac or PC to issue the ADB command. ?

After a full day of use, I'm still not sure how I feel about the S7e. Battery has improved compared to my Note 5. However, I'm getting a high usage of Android System (at 32% right now), not sure why. My SOT as of now is at 3h 15m 46s with 41% battery. Also, like others have mentioned in the beginning, it's nice to see Cell Standby at the bottom of that list.

Anyway, I still haven't decided whether I'm going to keep it. I think running Marshmallow really helps! And, I can say with certainty that if my Note 5 had Marshmallow, I'd probably would have skipped the s7e.

one last note: I don't like the scaling but I'm going to try adb a little later to down scale.

I used Windows in a VM.

I just installed the ADB under Windows

Enabled USB debug in developer options

Then copy and pasted the code from the link I posted. (under Windows command prompt)

The phone rebooted right away and the change took affect.
