Any other users jump from the S6 to S7 Edge? If so, what was your experience like? I know epicrayban made the switch and loves it.

I guess I'm trying to see if anyone had any negative impacts as a result of the switch to potentially discourage myself from making the switch myself.

Also what's the consensus with screen protectors for the edge, I know the Zagg contour is yet to be released but anything else in the pipeline that could be worthwhile?

Anybody going without a screen protector for the time being?

My Edge is fully naked. But I did order an XtremeGuard wet install screen protector for the front and back (full body one). These are the wet install ones so I think they'll be great.

Link here:
http://www.xtremeguard.com/Samsung-...otectors-p/galaxy-s7-edg-screen-protector.htm

They always have coupon codes that knock them down to a few bucks with free shipping. Until then, it's flying naked in all its glory.

I'm happy to answer any specific questions you might have about going from the S6 to the S7 Edge. My biggest hurdle was the size mainly. Took a few days to adjust and learn how to safely handle a phablet. I can't really think of anything else that was a downgrade from that switch. The hardware is better and safer (waterproofing) and the software is, surprisingly, a big enough difference in improvement, too.

Having said that, I can understand if someone doesn't feel it's worth the upgrade. It might be a closer decision if it was going from S6 to S7, but from S6 to S7 Edge, the upgrades are pretty substantial.

Hope that helps a little.

I didn't make the jump directly, but I owned a S6 Edge. It is a substantial difference. Better battery, smarter screen brightness, always on display, nicer camera that doesn't protrude so much, Edge software that is actually useful, better FP scanner, more RAM, better processor, cleaner software, water resistance, a better body to hold. Idk about screen protectors since I have a ****** Xtreme Guard one I paid $3 for a pack of 6. I instantly regret it and will be going tempered glass soon.

Just FYI, I'm trying the wet install one: http://www.xtremeguard.com/Samsung-...otectors-p/galaxy-s7-edg-screen-protector.htm

I've had great success with XtremeGuard wet installs before. Don't forget, the S7 is waterproof. ;)

Wow, I had the weirdest reaction when I tried to use Samsung Pay today. This morning I forgot my wallet and didn't realize until lunch time. I figured it wouldn't be a problem since I had both my iPhone and S7 Edge. So I got lunch and went to go pay and the cashier was insisting very loudly that it wouldn't work, loud enough the manager came. I asked them to just ring it up and to try as I was fairly confident it would work, at which point the manager got upset thinking that I was going to try and hack them. I even showed him my screen and that I launched the Samsung Pay app and selected my credit card but he still wouldn't allow it near his credit card terminal for fear I was going to hack them.

Kinda pissed me off, but I went across the street and got lunch there and paid with my phone no problem.

Don't know what the moral is, just had to rant. Thanks.

Yeah, the whole Samsung Pay throws people through a loop because they only know about Apple and Android via NFC pay. That and I think people watch too much CSI if they think you can hack a credit card machine by waving a cell phone.

Its pretty nice they Samsung has that feature because based on the slow EMV rollout, they are predicting 4 more years before magnet swipes are disabled. And by that time, I would think most all terminals will have Android/Apple pay. I guess that is as long as the merchant doesn't call the police on you! Glad you still got your lunch!

Not the first time I've heard that story, sadly. But looking at it from the merchant's perspective...Samsung's MST tech is itself kind of a hack--doing what it needs to do to spoof the mag strip reader to think a traditional card is being swiped. There is nothing else like it in the industry and having never seen it work or probably publicized, many merchants are hesitant. Hell, Apple Pay is the most widely publicized wireless payment method in the US and most times I use it at places that advertise accepting it, the merchant is usually amazed or clueless. Samsung Pay seems like some sort of voodoo hackery to those same types.

UPDATE: So I leave this post and click over to an open tab in my browser to close it, it's on Yahoo's home page, and coincidentally this is the 3rd story down on the front page.

Watch a hacker install a credit card skimmer in under 3 seconds

So yeah, with articles like this plastered front and center all over the internet, those less 'tech literate' will possibly freak out if you try to use Samsung Pay. If you want to blame anyone, some of it needs to be levied at Samsung for not doing enough educate merchants.

Ugh, my fast wireless chargers are back ordered. I was hoping I was able to put my order in before all the other Android blogs realized the promotion was happening and announced it.

Anyone care or concerned about the Exynos being faster than the snapdragon? Does it affect your decision?

http://9to5google.com/2016/03/16/galaxy-s7-speed-test-snapdragon-vs-exynos/

My apologies if its been talked about already, I'm still playing catch up with the thread.

Probably won't a difference for average consumer but for the power user it appears the Exynos variant has the storage I/O advantage. Like to see real world app performance like RAR and ZArchiver compression, video and audio encoding, foreground app multitasking performance, etc. The way things are looking so far and experience with Exynos on the S6 and Note 5 I'd prefer to stick with Exynos.

Loving the battery on my S7e. Charged it to 100% at 10pm left it on in my nightstand. This morning at 6am it was at 98%.

The stand by time is really amazing.

There is one downgrade.

The volume when using Bluetooth earphones are noticeably lower. I'm always maxing it out. Whereas with the s6 I would normally have it mid-high and it was loud enough.

Guys. Could you check if your S7 does this?

It's like a new "feature" in MM for the S6, but I hate it. When the ambient sensor detects the phone is in a dark room the screen turns on very slowly, like with lag. But if there is light or it's sunny then the screen turns on instantaneously, as always.

This was not there before MM in the S6.

Does the S7 have this function also? You can check the video to try it.

Adjusting to the Edge was a challenge for me. I did it mainly for the larger battery and the gorgeous screen. And I must say, it's worth the trouble. Just make sure you give it a few days to really give yourself a chance to adjust to the bigger device. Yes, it's the most compact 5.5" smartphone to date, but it is still in the family of phablets and will require getting used to.

I have zero regrets now and am loving my Edge. I think you're making the right decision between the two.

Like I said, don't get the S7 instead. :)

Do you have a link to go along with this statement?

My friend has a 6s. For kicks we launched Subway Surfers simultaneously and the 6s kicked booty over the Edge.

I don't care, they are two different OS and games are generally optimized better on IOS. I did not try anything else, I really don't care.

Comes done to the CPU. The A9 is simply awesome The SD 820 is better than the 810, but still has issues. I just wish Samsung could use their own Exynos in all their phones this year. They really seem to have it down. Well, just that whole radio support thing :)

So far reports show the Exynos has "substantially" better battery life, better DAC, no skipping in slo-mo recording, unlocked bootloader, etc. SD seems to have a better GPU in theory, but doesn't sound like its sustainable. Really curious to see what the 820 does in other phones this year. Qualcomm has been a bit off their game lately (assuming other phones display the same). Still perfectly usable, but could be better.

I wish they gave us Exynos again, too. Not a deal breaker for me, though.

I can post others if you'd like.
I think where you lost everyone was the post you replied to had nothing to do with Apple at all. It was about the Exynos processor in some S7s and the snapdragon in others. The Exynos is benchmarking faster.
So your complaint seemed out of context.
If you prefer the iphone.....hey you can't go wrong. It's a great phone. I have both the S7e and 6s+ and truly do not notice a difference speed wise using them both. they both do what I need them do quite quickly. I will say the S7e launches the camera much faster. I was on vacation in San Diego last weekend and took over 300 pictures. Most on the fly. Being able to double press the home button and having the camera launch almost instantaneously is invaluable.

I am sure you can get the international version of the S7 with the Exynos if you wanted it.

I can post others if you'd like.

Was wondering how long before this video was posted...noticed it yesterday on Yahoo.

I understand the principle behind the test but as this represents the way that NOT A SINGLE PERSON uses their phone, how is it relevant?

Yes it does do that. The display turns on just as fast, but illuminates slower to it's set brightness in the dark.

Being that said, the finger over the sensor test showed me something else

If you enable the above ...... When you turn on the S7 edge in complete darkness, the screen comes on and stays on. But when you have your finger covering the sensor, the screen turns on and immediately goes right back off. So if the sensor can't detect it's own display light, it will turn back off(guess that's how it works). Nice to know that it would keep my phone display off in my pocket.

I think its relevant when over the weekend I'm seeing my new S7 Edge sputter and lag and I'm watching my wife's 6s work flawlessly.

What if you're in a dark room using your device? Like in bed or something. I guess I can turn it on the test run it. Seems like it could be useful.

I think if the sensor doesn't detect light from the display when turning it on, it just shuts back off. And the only way to do that is covering the sensor. Exactly what happens when your phone is in your pocket, the sensor is being covered. I'm just guessing on how it works though.
