Interesting, I was just thinking yesterday how few fanboy battles there are in this thread considering this is MacRumors. I think this has been an extremely fun and informative thread. I am assuming most of the true Apple diehards stay out of the ghetto of "Alternatives to iOS" :)

Look at any front page post that mentions Samsung, Google or Android. Then you'll get an idea of how bad it could be.
I think it is indicative of how much Samsung has evolved the S series phone from the hit they had with the S3 until now. I mean, what bad can someone say about the S7? Touchwiz? No USB-C? No adaptable storage with the SD card? And the last two are nitpicking minutiae.
That's why I think it has been so civil. It is a darn good phone and there is little to fault.

Funny. I read the entire manual for the Edge today as well. Was hoping for some big insight into the phone. Alas, the only thing of significance related to the Edge screen capabilities and saving RAW images.

Any UK residents know if they're in Samsung or carrier shops here yet?
They are in the Oxford Circus Samsung store. Not sure about nation wide or that carriers. I remember last year three got in the S6 edge plus early to demo.
[doublepost=1456374637][/doublepost]Guys I have to admitt I'm really tempted by the S7 edge. It's just too great to ignore this year. I just hope the battery life is good enough.

Samsung accomplished the first step. Kudos. There's more to do.

They have to continue this presale without issue. Actually launch the device without delays. And hopefully there aren't any major first wave issues and manufacturing mishaps; a new Samsung "gate."

Plus, let's not forget real world usage. What will the reviews say? Is that massive battery going to truly translate into what our imaginations are for batteries those sizes? What was that previous rumor? Potentially 8-10 hours of SOT with the edge? Optimistic! What will the final word on Touch wiz be this year?

And what will real user feedback be like?

There's still more to all this. Can't wait for reviews.

I am hoping TMO ships their pre orders early! Can't wait to test the camera and battery life. Going on vacation to Legoland in mid march and plan to test the S7 edge the whole time!

lol! As promised, here is the video:

While I would say it runs against the "it just works" mantra....there are a variety of ways that picture taken on the iPhone could've been much better....

(1) 6S Plus - OIS also acts to take in more light making low-light photos on the phablet much better than its smaller companion.

(2) AE/AF lock and adjustment - that yellow square that kept trying to focus can actually be manually set and adjusted to bring it more light or less light. Whoever took the picture didn't even attempt to adjust.

Camera is the reason I'm picking up an S7. I want to really test it out as I've done in the past. Looks impressive. Wonder is the dual camera tech is true on the iP7 and if so, what kind of difference that will make.

Haha 8-10 is wild. It doesn't come with a 3x zerolemon strapped to it.

If the 3,000mAh Note 5 gets me 5 hours SOT then I'm gonna go with a simple calculation that a 20% increase in battery nets a 20% boost to 6 hours at best.

Yea, there's Doze but if it was as outlandish as 8-10 hours I think Samsung would have made much more of it.

I've a friend who has the 2016 A9 (1080p/6-inch/4,000mAh/SD652) and they routinely get 5-7 hours depending on use.

I'm staying realistic about the S7!

Good points however:

1. The s7 is competing against the 6s not the plus model.

2. The room was extremely dark based on what they said. The yellow box focusing anywhere should bring in more light since it was dark everywhere.

Yeah but you're forgetting other factors.

1.The edge has a 20 percent bigger battery than note 5. So that's 6 hours sot in theory so far.

2. The edge has a smaller display

3. It has a more efficient processor and screen ( I think)

4. It has doze

5. There might be software optimization on Samsungs part

I agree, keeping hopes tempered is the way to go. However I don't think 8 hours is out of realm of possibility.

A little off subject, but still related.

The worst thing Samsung did to it brand, along with the bloated mess the S5 was, was there low end phones with the galaxy name. The galaxy primes, and galaxy whatevers that were dirt cheap and performed worse then a flip phone. It gave first time smart phone owners a bad impression. Something that Apple, cost aside, didn't risk. Moto was first to really start making nice, admirable, low end phones...if I remember right (in the US).

Now Samsung seems to have fixed that with the A series. Hopefully they keep that up.

Just a thought. Wish the s7/edge release date wasn't over two week away.

I with Jamezr here, I hope tmobile ships early like last year.

I need to get to the bottom of the device not holding the screen mode change to "basic" when I adjusted it in the settings. The colors are way to fugly in adaptive mode, even less than to my liking than on the previous Samsungs I owned.

During the wait for reviews, I wonder what's in store for s8.

Guessing a slight redesign. Dual speakers. Front firing hopefully. 5gb RAM? Where else can they go besides the obvious processor and camera improvements?

You are using an in-store model, that has the "presentation software" or whatever present. Said software takes up a few gbs, and controls the headset. If you change it to basic mode, the software is going to change it back. Samsung wants the screen to look as crazy vivid as it can....kind of like a showroom TV. Similar software is present on TVs, etc.

This is how it is on store models. Past Samsung devices screen modes have worked fine, and this one will as well.

Who knows...

Beyond the usual improvements and the above listed...

Flexible display?
Iris scanner?
Etc.....

Weird.

I wouldn't worry too much. Could be pre release software bugs, whatnot.

Just wait for reviews and etc. Samsung prizes it's displays, if that is a bug, it will be fixed quickly I would imagine.

Speculate on the Note 6 first :D

RAM ... 4-6
Display ... 6 inch, 4K display
Battery ... 4000 - 4500mah
Software ... Much leaner Touchwiz
Internal storage ... 64 & 128gb
New features ... Possible force touch, Iris scanner
Camera lens might be flush with device, no bump.
Wonder if there will be a Note Edge.

Since the S7 is being released about a month earlier than usual, it's possible the Note 6 might released in late August.

I'm too lazy to post the link, but Samsung just announced a new, super high speed ufs storgae. I think I was 850mb/s or something. Desktop level performance, for a "large screen media device" later this year. Probably the new note, and maybe s high end tablet.

:(

I am having second thoughts already .... :(

:(

Should I have pre-ordered Gold instead ? Also just found out 3 Ireland are giving out the VR headset with the device and its €70 cheaper with them (€749 vs €820) ... They even through in an extra €100 credit to your account .... Even if its sim locked to Three I have enough credit in my account that I can request an unlock code after ...

I think it's a no brainer to cancel my amazon.de order and just order direct from 3 Ireland and get it sooner + the extra VR goodies + €100 credit to my account. :)

No point in speculating about the S8 not due out until March 2017.

Now the Note 6, that will be a beast, realistic spec's I've heard;

- 5.8" screen
- Maybe 4k display, but from what I've read that's a big maybe, most likely a 2k but with new tech
- 6GB RAM
- 3,900mAh battery
- Waterproof
- Overall no bigger than the current Note 5

Won't see Android-N on it until Spring 2017 LOL

I am super pumped for the Note 6, it looks to be an amazing next gen Phablet. I sort of want the S7 Edge, only for the big battery and waterproof, but not a fan of that funky gimmicky edge display.

I wonder if if Samsung will stay with micro usb, until a USB-C Gear VR is created.

I also wonder if updates will be quicker this time around, which leaves me to think why the TouchWiz design has not changed much. I expect the same TouchWiz or leaner on the Note 6 too. Don't expect any real design changes that might prolong updates. Hopefully this is the mentally of Samsung behind such a similar TouchWiz experience, cause the S line is usually when you seen drastic changes.
