I saw a headline today that Samsung is starting to produce 256 gig mobile chips, the Note 5 will probably see that option

Speculate on the Note 6 first :D

RAM ... 4-6
Display ... 6 inch, 4K display
Battery ... 4000 - 4500mah
Software ... Much leaner Touchwiz
Internal storage ... 64 & 128gb
New features ... Possible force touch, Iris scanner
Camera lens might be flush with device, no bump.
Wonder if there will be a Note Edge.

Since the S7 is being released about a month earlier than usual, it's possible the Note 6 might released in late August.

I like what I see on the S7 Edge, but I'm def passing on it and waiting for the Note 6. Give me a min 64GB internal and I'm all over it.

32 GBs just won't cut it for my purposes.

Yeah, that's where I'm at. I'm waiting for a 64gb Note 6 with micro sd card. Or at least that's what I keep telling myself, must resist the urge to preorder the S7.

No point in speculating about the S8 not due out until March 2017.

Now the Note 6, that will be a beast, realistic spec's I've heard;

- 5.8" screen
- Maybe 4k display, but from what I've read that's a big maybe, most likely a 2k but with new tech
- 6GB RAM
- 3,900mAh battery
- Waterproof
- Overall no bigger than the current Note 5

Won't see Android-N on it until Spring 2017 LOL

I am super pumped for the Note 6, it looks to be an amazing next gen Phablet. I sort of want the S7 Edge, only for the big battery and waterproof, but not a fan of that funky gimmicky edge display.
Really excited for the Note 6, everything you listed plus a 64gb model with ultra fast read/write speeds and I'll be preordering day one. It would be great if they switched to an all metal back too.

My S7 impressions...

I spent a solid 25 minutes this morning at the Samsung kiosk at Best Buy. A good portion of that time was actually spent handling the Samsung rep's device in-hand without the security dongle. My impressions are very positive for the most part.

I'll start with the S7 Edge. Everything you've read about it is pretty much true. It feels GREAT in the hand. I was able to wield it one handed with little to no problem. As you'll see from the pictures below, it's not much bigger than my S6 (and in fact, I held my S6 a bit lower, if you'll notice in the comparison when they're on top of each other. So if I held it more accurately, the pic would show that they're even more similar in size). Reaching up to the notification shade was no problem, and typing one handed was no problem. I didn't get any phantom palm presses unless I really tried to. Reaching to the far left of the screen was relatively easy. Remember, it's the same width as a Nexus 5X, so if you've handled one of those, you'll get a great idea of how it feels. The curvature on the back is subtle, but it adds so much to the ergonomics and just overall feel of the device. It really flows, and the edge screen really adds to that effect beautifully.

Speaking of the Edge, the features were pretty fun and I like that it's very customizable. I'm actually coming around to the Edge features and can really see myself using some of them.

A note about the colors. The black is absolutely gorgeous in person. Many will love it. I'm falling for it myself and will seriously consider it, even though I dislike dark/black phones. The gold this time around seems more bronze-y. Something I'm not too keen on. See the comparison pics below to my S6 gold, which has a more subdued hue to it. The new gold is also more reflective than the previous generation gold. Not sure how I feel about that. As for the silver, it's also a beauty in person. But again, a bit too reflective for my taste. I really like the silver overall, though. But I gotta say... dat black... absolutely stunning. And with the screen off, the overall front panel is just gorgeous. I'm not bothered by the Samsung logo up front, but do agree for the black one, if that was gone, it'd be ultra sleek.

Software-wise, I did my best to really try everything out. My primary focus was to test one handed use with the Edge, so I did a lot of browsing, typing up fake messages, making a call, checking notifications, etc. etc. The device flies. And I don't mean just fast; something about it is noticeably smoother than the TW I'm used to. The best way to describe it is that there's just this consistent flow to the OS. Everything moved and animated smoothly, almost calmly. I can't really describe it more than that, but the point is, it's positive. Even the Edge features slid out smoothly and were very easy to swipe through and launch.

I didn't get to test the RAM very much, but the few times I switched between apps, I did not notice any refreshing and more importantly, no delays whatsoever. Again, just smooth.

I played with the camera only for a bit, but was more concerned with taking pics of the device than with ;)

The S7... Played with this a lot less during my time, and didn't get a unit that didn't have the security dongle, but that's okay because it's becoming very clear the Edge is the winner here. However, the S7 seems like a very lovely update to my S6. It somehow feels compact. I guess you can attribute that to the fact that it is slightly shorter and slightly less wide. Something about the screen and body ratio makes the device overall just feel very tight and compact. The new curvatures, again, are subtle but do make a big difference. You can tell the device will be very comfortable in the hand and very friendly to one handed use. Once again, the black one was gorgeous. Those looking to stay within that 5" screen size family of devices will undoubtedly be supremely happy with the S7.

I thought I had a lot more to say overall, but I forget what they were now, and I should start my day. But overall, I walked away very positive about the new devices, especially the S7 Edge. Once the price comes down, I have no doubt I will upgrade.

Here are some pics:

The curvature is really subtle, but feels really great in hand. The Edge is amazingly compact for a device with this size screen (and that large a battery!). One handed use was very attainable.

My S6 vs S7 Edge. Look at how little of a difference that is. And you gain a larger screen, waterproofing, a much larger battery. Going from the S6 to S7 Edge should not be a major adjustment.

Q2POcAgl.jpg

The S7's are supposed to be 1.1 millimeter thicker, but you would never really know. The only difference you feel in the two devices are actually positive. The ergonomics are fantastic, especially for a device with this size screen.

Shame it's so shiny now. And bronze-y:

Everything about the new device is just a bit smoother and more rounded. Subtle, but really lends to greater ergonomics and a more cohesive and consistent overall build and feel to it. Truly top notch design by Samsung.

I'm open to questions since I really didn't get to write up everything I thought during my playthrough.

I might actually like the bronze look slight better, cause it seems to better match the back case I ordered from Amazon. As long as it's still shiny. :D

How much different did the home button feel? I heard it was more flush.

During the wait for reviews, I wonder what's in store for s8.

Guessing a slight redesign. Dual speakers. Front firing hopefully. 5gb RAM? Where else can they go besides the obvious processor and camera improvements?
Samsung just started mass producing their new 256gb memory chips designed for mobile devices. Smaller and faster than current ssd's on any mobile platform. Imagine all S series and Note series phones coming with 256gb of storage at the same cost as Apple's 16gb iPhone.

The black is stunning, that would be my choice.

I would have asked you to check the screen mode issue I encountered, the device not displaying on the basic color mode when changed from adaptive. I tried it again on the Samsung rep's S7 not in retail mode and the same thing happened. BUT this time I tried it on a display Note 5 as well and in demo mode and there was no issue.

IF there is truly an issue with this, I need it resolved BEFORE I plunge into the new S7s. I cannot live with the smartphone in adaptive screen mode.

Since Samsung is highly pushing VR, that extra space and speed would be more than welcomed. VR content takes up plenty of space and requires good performance.

Never really took notice of the home button but it did seem like it was less clicky. It's definitely a little bigger too. I wish I got to try the actual fingerprint scanner.

My early impressions is that the home button difference is marginal.

I too had a go-around with the S7 & S7 Edge last night. I echo everything epicrayban said. I was leaning towards the S7 but am now leaning towards the S7 Edge. Wanted to go silver but as sleek and sexy as it is I think the shininess will annoy me after a while so I'm going black.

I hate to admit it but I'm leaning toward black heavily now, too. I'll have to re-evaulate when I do actually order.

That black one... so gorgeous in person.

I just worry about 3rd party apps taking advantage of the edge. It's nice now but unless other app makers buy in its still just a gimmick. If nothing else, the battery life should be fantastic. Placing my pre-order tonight (after I play with it again in store).

The fact that android apps have menus or navigation that swipe in from edges for me means that ergonomically the curved screen offers a more fluid experience irrespective of any extra tacked on 'features'. For me the ergonomics alone are enough without even the current app edge features and such .

I agree. Plus the screen itself. Let's not forget that's what we're interacting with. The seamless screen into the design of the device is gorgeous and makes the whole experience pop. There's just so much screen compared to device.

Sigh. Temptation for pre-ordering is greater than ever, especially now that I feel more confident that the Edge will work for me.

Anyone still on the fence about the Edge's size or ergonomics or sharp edges should really try to get their hands on one without the security dongle. Ask the Samsung rep that's there at Best Buy. They carry around untethered demo units. When you put that thing in your hand, you really appreciate the detail and design that went into the ergonomics. I felt no sharp edges, it wasn't hard to reach across the screen or to the top (you'll have to adjust a little, of course, but very doable), and it just sat in your hand comfortably.

Most importantly, no accidental palm touches unless I really tried to make it happen. Admittedly, it wasn't hard to make it happen, but there should be very few accidental ones.

The thing what makes the black S7 edge beautiful is the black homebutton, they should ditch the chrome ring around it on all.

By the way the iPhone looks like a toy next to the Samsung Galaxy S7 edge.

The difference in bezel size is truly remarkable. In that regard the iPhone feels really dated.

My god, that size difference, for both phones having the exact same size 5.5" screens, the iPhone looks HUGE and very dated looking in comparison.
