Battery claims are almost never right.
This other review seem to suggest the same 12, 13 hours.

https://www.t3.com/reviews/samsung-galaxy-tab-s4-review

It may not be 16, but it's more than the 10 hours you can get with the iPAD. Something Apple should improve, if possible.

Anyways, it looks like there isn't going to be a 256 GB wifi + LTE version. Only wi-fi. I was only able to find a 64 GB, and apparently it can only work with Verizon. I couldn't buy from the U.S. and bring overseas, to use different SIM cards (4G) from other ISPs.

********
And a few more details:

Point is the A11 is faster than the A10X , and better at multitasking. A10X has better GPU and battery consumption. So anyone that has the faster is always better mentality, the iPad Pro is not for you. ;)

Faster chip in theory and design but throttles so quick so no true execution of that power and speed.....the iPad Pro simply has a processor that’s faster due to it not throttling like that iPhone X A11 so called bionic chip.

Do we have reports of A11 chips throttling or are you rear-pulling?

I do have one complaint with the S4. Does this thing seriously not support HDR videos via YouTube thanks to the 835 chip? All of this year's Samsung phones equipped with the 845 can run 1440P/60 HDR. Checked the Galaxy S8 and sure enough, 1440P/60 only. Did YouTube remove this because of dropped frames? Can't believe Samsung didn't include the 845 in this thing.

I wonder if it's possible to run these kinds of files in this Tab S4:

a) Matroska / 1080p / lossless / direct-rip, from a Blu-ray / usually the filesize has 25-35 GB;
b) Matroska / 2160p, 4K / lossless / direct-rip, from Ultra-HD Blu-ray discs / usually the filesize can be twice when compared to a)

Now, what I noticed in the:

- iPAD PRO 10.5, 256 GB, wifi+cel, using iOS 10.3.2
- Using this app:
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/nplayer-plus/id539397400?mt=8

a) runs 100% fine. No stuttering, no slowdowns... nothing. Of course these huge files are already transfered to my iPAD, so no streaming.

Question: is the Tab S4 capable of handling a)? I assume it will be the same, if the CPU power is equivalent.

b) It's understandable that even with the IPP 10.5 I have the exact opposite in terms of results, meaning it practically doesn't work. Other 4K contents, using other codecs, are 100% fine.

My wife’s note 8 only supports 1080p/60 hdr in YouTube. So my guess is performance issues

A new review highlighting the differences between the iPAD Pro and the S4:

https://www.laptopmag.com/articles/galaxy-tab-s4-vs-ipad-pro

Also:

Something tells me what I asked in post #80 might not be what I expect, considering what the 1st review says...

About the Pencil (vs. S-Pen) it is known the Pencil is better for drawing, the S-Pen is usually more recommended (or used) for taking notes.

As for this part I am still waiting for comprehensive tests:

Battery life
The Tab S4 lasts a decent amount of time on a charge, but the iPad Pro made it even longer. The Laptop Mag Battery Test (web surfing at 150 nits) took 9 hours and 34 minutes to drain the Tab S4 of its charge, while the iPad Pro posted a time of 13 hours and 55 minutes.

Winner: iPad Pro

These battery test scripts are garbage benchmarks imo. My wife has an iPad pro and she never gets anywhere near 14 hours of battery life. She's lucky to get to 9 or 10 hours.

And one year later you are lucky to get 8 hours. Mine has already 10-13% degradation and I am using iOS 10.3.2 since day 1.

I wonder how would it work to replace the Samsung battery. I know that with Apple products you can do that in my country, if it's an old iPhone. With new products there's no way as I see it, or they would want me to pay for a new.

This is another good reason for me to never buy from Apple again: almost zero (score) in terms of repairability. If you open this s.hit you break it.

9 hours is good for a Samsung tablet. I’ve never had 14 hours from my iPad Pro or any of iPads ever. 10-11 hours tops.

Last Samsung tablet I had was the tab pro 10.1 and that lasted about 6-7 hours so 9 hours is good.

9 hours isn't good unless you are planning to sue the manufacturer for false advertising. They promised 16. Under what conditions? Just using the browser?

P.S. Further insights:

Well Apple tend to be the only ones who under estimate or have accurate battery claims.

So I was never expecting 16 hours from Samsung. All I was looking for was an improvement in battery life and it looks like they have achieved this.

Most estimates are watching videos. That’s the bad but normal way of testing.

So the battery is practically the same or worse? What a surprise...

And no, the iPad Pro 10.5 does not shine in this regard. I not only have the device, I also use the iOS that came with it, 10.3.2, since day 1. I can assure you in no way it lasts a lot, unless its not being used to play videos. Of course modest settings don't waste too much, everyone knows that.

From the looks of it we will never have better battery, not now or in the next 10 years. 16 hours of what? Just reading books?

Still a good review never the less. Though he mentions a cheaper 12” galaxy tablet, I don’t see that besides a much older galaxy tab pro that isn’t even sold where I live or the more expensive galaxy book

I keep eyeing up this tablet, but in Canada it’s north of $800 for it. The ultra portability of it really intriguing me, being able to pack it with me to work and use it while I’m in hotels to do some extra side work or load it up with a movie to watch.

It’s a tough one...

I plan on getting one of these sometime.
Time to replace my Tab S 10.5, I'll wait for a good deal though.
I had a play with one in the store as and it ticks all my boxes for a tablet, for my use anyway, which is video consumption

So Cal.
I wonder why people still buy Android tablets.
What a bizarre thing to say... I have an original tab S tablet, 3 yrs old.. runs perfect, with an amazing OLED screen, so movies, gaming, youtube, etc are all spot on.. whatever version of the OS its on, it works fine.. I have zero intentions of getting a new one till it dies... which aint gonna be any time soon...
[doublepost=1537380932][/doublepost]
....Meanwhile my iPad Air in 1.5 hrs will either be stuck at 100% or drop to 99%.

So.... you want us to believe that the iPad air for some strange quirk of magic doesnt actually use any battery life what so ever.. not 1 percent in 90 mins.. lol. Erm.. just out of Interest why didnt you add that after 2 hrs, it's dropped to 80% and that Apple is actually fudging the way that the figures are displayed... only giving periodic updates.. unless of course you can actually get 4 days on screen time.now.. and Apple has fixed battery issues for good but decided not to tell anyone...

i think the reason why people are apprehensive about investing into android tablets is because google doesnt seem to really care to update them or push more app support for them. As much as i would love to get the new tab s4, its the long term support that's holding me back. Its a huge investment for a tablet that google doesnt seem to really stand behind as much anymore now that they have moved over to chromebooks

And if Chromebooks fail, they'll drop those too.

More powerful CPU, GPU, and better battery life. I'm sure you can figure out how those are useful for a device they're touting as a professional device.
Yeah but there wont be a big difference. Im still using the S2 and it runs just fine. People make too much about having the latest and greatest. Thats what they want you to do. That 845 will be obsolete in 6 months.
Ill use my S2 til it dies then get another.....maybe! I may get something else, who knows what will be out then. But if it dies in two years , ill get the S4 or S5 while the S6 is out. Im not paying $600, or even $500 for a tablet. Dont care if i have the lastest and greatest. Im not a update snob or a tech geek.

If you are into media and video...there is no tablet out there with a better display than the galaxy Tab S4.....the hdr movies on Netflix are amazing to see and makes even my iPad Pro 10.5 display look mediocre......DeX and the included s pen is a added bonus for productivity purposes and takes away most complaints about android tablets...and of course it supports mouse and keyboard....a real pro tablet imo. Forget the cpu and ram complaints because this tablet flies......remember that the snapdragon 835 allows for customization and whatever Samsung did...it works without hesitation and 4 gb of ram is plenty for this tablet (no slow downs). I cannot tell a difference in speed of this tablet vs my s9 plus. There have been instances where the tablet seems even faster..probably becuz it throttles less.

The more I read, the more I want to buy one to see if I'm wrong. And then I look at my bank account and Amazon.
