Stannis! Liked him until that ep. Hope when Davos Seaworth gets back he kills Stannis. Slowly.

I'm nervous about what this kid (Olly) might do...

This kid^. He scares me. A lot. Watch your back, Jon Snow. Watch your back.

I wonder if Ser Davos won't end up just staying at Castle Black. He would be a needed ally and mentor to Jon Snow, unless...

I wouldn't be surprised if he tries to kill, or succeeds in killing, Tormund. After all, he led the raiding party that killed Olly's parents. Chaos will ensue.

Yep. And the Kid's good with an arrow. He's the one who shot Ygritte through the heart.

Agreed. A great episode.

In the Inside the Episode video about S5E9, one of the show's creators revealed that George RR Martin had shocked them about Shireen's death. But the character is apparently still alive in the books, so was this a major spoiler for book readers or not? The books and series have diverged in other significant ways, and this may be another.

Based on the preview for the finale, we know they'll cover a lot of territory on Sunday. The shot of Tyrion, Daario, and Jorah sitting around looking forlorn makes it seem that they have no idea where Dany went, and Jon looks to be in major trouble. We'll also get to see Cersei post confession, and Brienne finally jumps into the frey. I'm wondering when the Mountain will awaken, or will they leave that for a future season?

In regards to the events of S05E09 and the novels
The individuals who write the World of Ice and Fire and are privy to knowledge about what happens in TWoW that we don't weren't too kind to D&D. They were in apoplectic rage at D&D, taking them to task and promising to reveal what happens in S05E10 in return. They've attacked anyone who's disagreed with them, telling them literally to f--- off and calling them retards.

Between their reactions and the spoiler dropped by D&D, it certainly seems like Shireen may be getting burned in TWoW. The events surrounding it may differ substantially.

Some of the spoiler-related angst about GoT has been over the top. There were the book readers who until now could say what was coming up in the show, people who saw leaked copies of future episodes, and various cognoscenti who speculated on future developments in the print and TV versions. Some GoT sites, such as watchersonthewall.com, do a very good job of allowing readers to avoid spoilers should they so choose. Here on MacRumors, I've tried to be discreet, though I assume that anyone who visits this thread should at least be up to date with the series.

I loved it, but I think why most people were excited for the scene beyond that it was the most action we've seen all season is it was something not from the books, so it was new to everyone.
As a reader of the books, I couldn't agree more. The season had been dragging (but so did the books in places) so when all heck broke lose, it was an exciting shot of adrenaline. Not a bad night of entertainment in my book.

I'd still like to see Lady Stoneheart make an appearance and I vote Ghost for the win.

As for last week's episode, somehow the phrase "it's the pits" will never be the same.

That is not how I imagine "pits"', thought I was watching Gladiator. It seems obvious that a dragon is most effective as an airborne WMD. ;)

The sense of "shock and awe" amongst everyone as the dragon flew over and descended was so cool. They did a great job of capturing that experience before things literally, "got heated".:D

The white walker silent scene was spectacular, so ominous and creepy.

For a bit, I thought I was watching The Neverending Story, at least after Dany climbed aboard and Drogon took flight. :)

But I had the same reaction about effectiveness from above vs. on the ground: it's a lot harder to throw spears up at a moving target. Or a moving Targaryen.

Indeed. With all of the camera shots of his face, you know something is going to happen. I should start reading the books.

Oh boy oh boy...just finished watching the season finale. Still totally off the rails, book wise, but what an episode!

I won't say more until others have had a chance to watch. I'll just say "didn't see that coming."

The Wildlings are strategically in the best position they've ever been to finishing the Night's Watch off for good. All I can say is, may the Thenns have a feast. And God do I hate the Boltons.

**** this show. **** the the troll writer. i hope, honest to god, the white walkers glass the entire of westeros. #teamnightsking

Man, screw this show!! You get all invested in your favorite characters only to see them get killed. *pissed*

Well, two things we know about GoT are that (a) the writers will kill off major characters from time to time, and (b) there is always a possibility that some will be resurrected, at least partially.

After last night, we can add to the list of characters who may be dead, but who we didn't see die and/or still have their head in the right place: Jon, Stannis, and The Hound, to name just three. It also looked like Sansa and Reek were taking quite a leap of faith - the snow can't be that deep. I think that Jon will be back in one form or another, especially with Melisandre looking for a win after roasting Shireen with no apparent benefit to Stannis' military campaign. Also, things are going to get messy in King's Landing when they turn loose the new member of the guard (i.e., the Mountain, version 2.0).

I'm looking forward to next year, just am not happy about having to wait so long.

My first thought after everyone stabbed John was that he would now rise as a white walker...or some variation, since they rest of the Watch just left his body intact and walked away. Haven't they learned anything?

So between John and the Wildlings, the Watch is done for.

I preferred the book ending, with Dany on the dragon when she encountered the Dothraki, but I guess he can come rescue her again.

It was nice to see Aria's storyline continuing exactly as in the book, becoming the blind girl.

That was an amazing finale. Almost every storyline ended with a cliffhanger.

I was definitely shocked by the last few minutes with Jon, like everyone else who hadn't read the books. Kudos to the book readers for sitting on that for 4 years and not spoiling it for the show viewers.

And as evil as she is, Cersei's walk of 'shame' was insane. You know she already must be plotting her revenge. It's going to be a massacre.

Can't wait for the next season.

It's a shame it's like 10 months until it is back on :(
