I just watched the season 6 teasers on YouTube as I am getting excited for the season to begin next month. In the latest teaser, I was a little surprised at something I saw in it. I don't want to post spoliers, so you should go watch them.

Also just re-added HBO to DirecTV and am logging into the HBO Go app on the ATV4 so I can re-watch some of season 5 as a refresher.

GRRM has a blog, and though I don't follow it, he's said he doesn't like the pressure that the show schedule has put on him, and it's caused him severe writers block...

The show will go on, with the shows writers finishing what he doesn't...so in the end the books and the show may end differently...

From what he's said in the past the ending is going to be the same, but the way they arrive to the end might be different.

The path will clearly not be the same. He is a "pantser" not a "plotter" which means he writes by the seat of his pants. He doesn't plot out the story and then fill in the gaps.

The end, assuming he has written it, could also change as he gets closer...

It will be interesting to see what happens.

I'm not bothered when a movie and book are different, though I know many people are.

Agreed, the path might not be the same. I do think and he has stated he shared the finale of all the characters with the producers, so they end up with the same fate, but how they arrive there might be a little different

It's all a master ruse to get us to buy his books and get hbo

Buying the books at this point is worthless since the show is about to move beyond where the books ended.

At least those of us who read the books no longer have to worry about the show leaving out something important, or adding in a scene that never happened.

I dunno about that. The books and show will end the same, but how they get there might be very different. Also, in the books they go into a lot more detail on various scenes, so in some ways it is still better. I'm not one of those people that bangs the drum and says the show sucks compared to the books, but I do think there will still be something to gain from reading the books.

It's funny though, how much more graphic and "wrong" some of the scenes in the book are and the outrage of people watching the show. Like the Sansa rape scene from last year was very very very tame compared to how it was portrayed in the book, yet people were trying to say the GOT producers use rape to try to shock the viewers

I would respectfully disagree, they are like watching parallel universes and the books are rich with such detail and depth that will never find its way into the show. :)

Now that the show and books (whenever the next one will be published), are running on parallel paths it seems like this a unique situation for the author. Will he forge a head with the book as is? (it is the genuine cannon after all) or based on the changes the show has made, will he blow the books off or even throw in the towel and say screw it, watch the show? And if he sticks with the books will the show undermine book sales? I'm thinking it won't. I predict legions will watch the show, and read the book too.

Looks like a 'Talking Dead' type of show is now going to be a thing for Game of Thrones called 'After the Thrones'.

Send a raven: HBO is launching a "Game of Thrones" recap show that will air after each installment of the increasingly convoluted fantasy series.

"After the Thrones" will be produced by Bill Simmons, who last summer partnered with the premium cable channel, and hosted by Andy Greenwald and Chris Ryan, two alums of Simmons' defunct sports-and-culture site Grantland.

The series will be focused on "explaining the who, what, when and where, exploring the complicated politics and history of 'Thrones,' and offering absurd and not-so-absurd theories about future episodes," HBO said in a statement. It will air on Mondays on HBO Now, HBO Go, HBO on Demand.

Greenwald and Ryan, who will serve as co-executive producers of the talk show, previously hosted a "Thrones" recap podcast for Grantland called "Watch the Thrones."

When Simmons was still with Grantland/ESPN they did a podcast like this called "Watch The Thrones" but a lot of it would be like explaining stuff in the show and Mallory the book reader along with Jason also would explain in context of the book world. It will be interesting to see how this show goes since there isn't much book material to go off of besides what Martin has posted on his website as far as I understand it?

I have the feeling that when GoT is over, I'll be happy that it ended instead of dragging on, but also sad that it's over. And there's so much story to tell--GoT has such a rich history.

I suppose I'd enjoy one or more prequel series, assuming they were done well of course. Not sure where they would be set. Valeria at it's height of power, and then it's doom. Aegon Targaryen taking over Westeros. Bran the Builder raising Winterfell, The Wall, and Storm's End.

I know, not going to happen. And even if it did, it probably wouldn't be done well.

I agree 100%. Shows that know when to quit (even if they are still popular)--such as Breaking Bad, Seinfeld, or even Parks & Rec) always leave a much better lasting impression. Nothing is worse than shows that started out great, then just fell flat and ruined their replay value (Boardwalk Empire, True Blood, The Office, Dexter...)

Game of Thrones has a well defined arc, and should end in the right place instead of dragging out.

Don't forget Friends! :) 53m viewers for the finale making it the 3rd most watched finale ever behind Seinfeld and MASH and it wasn't even the most viewed episode of Friends(The One After The Super Bowl).

I agree though. Shows that go out on top are way better than shows that wait too long. Your example of Breaking Bad is great as that finale was awesome and that whole final season, the last 8 episodes of season 5 were great. I remember the finale aired the same time as Sunday Night Football Niners/Seahawks, before the Niners were so bad...........and the game had an hour lightning delay which just so happened to perfectly coincide with Breaking Bad's finale air time. God wanted to watch both!
I know probably not a ton of people watched, but the show Nip/Tuck I thought was amazing for the 1st few seasons and then kind of died off and the finale was not very good. I thought if they had just ended it when Sean moved to LA, leaving Christian in Miami would have been fine.

The Breaking Bad finale was my favorite end-of-series episode ever, even better than the M*A*S*H finale. Although I was and still am a huge Seinfeld fan, I was let down by the way it ended. I know that the idea was to give the major characters, who were often selfish and self-centered, their comeuppance, but I didn't enjoy it. As for GoT, I'm enjoying it one season at a time.

What I really want is something satisfying, but unexpected. Right now, I'd expect Daenerys Targaryen to conquer Westeros, the Lannisters, and restore the crown to her family name, although if executed properly, I could be satisfied with that. I mean she's got 3 dragons although she can barely control them. :):)

Thats a pretty cool pic, what's that from? I mean I know what it is, but that's not from the show and how she was depicted in the books is MUCH younger than she appears on the show haha.

I can't say that's not from the show after her husband's funeral pyre when the dragon's hatch. Found it online in a Google search.

Oh ok, I was figuring it wasn't from the show because it didn't quite look like Emilia Clarke, Drogon was black, and the other people were circled around the burn site. I just figured it was a good artist rendition. I was going to see where you found it and see if they did it in print form :)
