Season 8, six 55 min episodes?
Not quite.. ;)

Episode 1 - April 14, 54 minutes
Episode 2 - April 21, 58 minutes
Episode 3 - April 28, 82 minutes
Episode 4 - May 5, 78 minutes
Episode 5 - May 12, 80 minutes
Episode 6 - May 19, 80 minutes

Also, some random facts and figures about the show, like how many wigs they've used, etc... It's an interesting read (and doesn't contain any spoilers).

This is the way of the future i think for consumers. I’m thinking subscribe to very basic cable, sports streaming for 6 months in the NBA season, 2 months for Hbo (while unsubscribing Netflix during that time), and maybe nothing in july to force myself to go outside. With the savings, i might afford the next iphone :D .

Actually, you might want to wait another week. Looks like they'll be airing a 2-hour behind-the-scenes documentary called "The Last Watch" on May 26 (one week after the finale).

Thanks! I’m really interested in the novels, what pisses me off is that I purchased the existing novels in paperback form and now those are just too uncomfortable to reread (small type), plus believe it or not, I no longer enjoy holding fat paperbacks, I much prefer my iPhone for reading. So I’ll have to purchase digital versions if I want to start from the beginning.

Just finished watching S8,E1. It did not disappoint.
A few observations:

1. Now that Jon knows that he's the rightful heir to the Iron Throne, will he tell Dany? Although what Sansa says about the northerners lack of allegiance to Dany is true, what would the Unsullied and Dothraki do if Dany bent her knee to Jon?

2. I'm not sure what the spiral pattern means for the Night King, but I suspect that learning its secret is a key to destroying him.

3. I'm sure we'll see more of what happened after Jaime's face-to-face with Bran. You might expect Bran to want revenge, but if it weren't for Jaime's push he might never have become the Three-Eyed Raven as he was meant to.

4. Seems to me that if dragon glass is so effective against the White Walkers and their army, it would make sense to prepare hundreds of arrows with dragon glass tips and fire them in salvos. That worked for Ramsay in the Battle of the Bastards.

5. Tormund's line "I've aways had blue eyes!" was one of the funniest in GoT so far. I hope he and Brienne survive long enough to get together.

I agree with everything you said, @Roller

I’m not convinced Bran does want revenge, but he definitely wants something. He waited out there for days for his “old friend” to return, so there is something he's planning.

As for Jon telling Dany the news, I’m curious how that will go. There isn’t much evidence (from his or her point of view) to go on, except the word of the guy whose family she butchered. I’m really glad they didn’t drag that reveal out, though. Clearly this season will be much more decisive. Jon also bowed the knee, so rightful heir or not, Mr. Honorable will probably still consider Dany the proper queen. If he brings it up it’ll be because he doesn't want to sleep with his aunt again.

Just watched it (i ended up going to sleep at 1am lol)
The first thing i noticed was the big gap in the wall in the opening credits. Then i noticed that the opening credits focused mainly on Winterfell and Kings Landing (and actually inside the castles for the first time), rather than all the various locations throughout Westeros and Esos.

The spiral symbol the Umber kid was pinned too has been shown before a few times (first time in the very first episode when the Black Watch soldier is north of the wall and seeing a White Walker slaughter his fellows and runs away south and is eventually beheaded by Ned, and also in a few other episodes, also the dragon glass cave last season). I think the spiral may refer to some kind of cycle of what-not. Winter comes, then it goes, then it comes again, etc. Or maybe the spiral refers to the centre of chaos like an eye of a hurricane.

Jon Snow has already bent his knee to Daenarys, so i don't think he would go back on his word even though he now has a stronger claim to the throne than she does. This is similar to when he swore his oath to the Black Watch, to serve the remainder of his life for it. He got out of that by dying (lol) and getting resurrected again ( "and now my watch is over" ). Maybe he will remain loyal to Daenarys and only take the throne after she dies in childbirth (to his child)?

I am curious about what type of weapon Arya has asked Gendry to make. It seems to be some kind of spear that comes apart to become a dagger and stick? I dunno, but i am sure i will be important.

Did anyone else get the feeling they are trying to set Sansa up as the 'new' Littlefinger-type character?

I don't think Bran cares about getting any revenge on Jamie, but maybe he has had a vision that Jamie does some great thing in the future that helps their cause?

Cersia sleeping with Euron..... i think the only reason she changed her mind and allowed him to 'visit her bedchamber' was because she is pregnant with Jamie's baby who has left her, so she will trick Euron into believing it is his kid so he will do her bidding even more.

This episode and last season, the Iron Isles were referred to as being being safe from the Night King's army since they cannot swim. Except they have a dragon now, so they are not safe, and plus.... and this is probably just a plot hole, but the undead must have swum down under the frozen lake to reach the dead dragon in order to attach their miraculous chains to it in order to pull it from the lake so that they could raise it from the dead.

Yes, I noticed too. Here is a breakdown of the changes and what they might mean:

There were so many Ep1 throwbacks like this. Remember Bran running through the crowd and climbing up to see the King (Robert) and Queen (Cersi)? Here is a breakdown of that analysis... the attention to detail in this show is fantastic.

I 100% agree.
I argued this on another site, too. Mr. Honorable isn't going to back up on his word. He explained clearly that he chose helping the north over holding a crown, so this doesn't really change his accounting. He still needs her army. I suspect he brings it up ONLY to get out of sharing a bed, and only after she notices his cold shoulders. Otherwise she's going to have to learn it too, for herself. I wonder when it's going to come to a point between them.

I don't think Bran cares about getting any revenge on Jamie, but maybe he has had a vision that Jamie does some great thing in the future that helps their cause?

Agree again.
The whole waiting out there for days for his "old friend" tells me he has some purpose for Jamie, but revenge seems a little trivial for the raven.

Strong start to the season. Few thoughts:

- Loved the new revamped opening credits. It's always been great, but that was amazing.

- Sam, wow.. It was tough watching him tear up.

- Qyburn and Bronn... Damn that Cersei is ruthless, and I kinda hate that I love her for it.

- I found it hilarious that Bran's just chillin' in the courtyard the entire episode watching everyone.

- Two gripes: First, Tyrion and Sansa.. I'm all for Sansa being more astute, but given Tyrion's knack for reading people, I find it hard to believe he's completely failed to recognize Cersei's true nature. Maybe Sansa is just more suspicious of Cersei in general, given their history, but I don't think he should be as convinced as he seems to be that she genuinely intends to help.
Second, Jon and Dany's dragon-joy-ride romantic interlude.. Given the sense of urgency they're presented with when they arrived at Winterfell, the whole thing seemed a bit out of place.

Every week is gonna be so bittersweet. 1 down, 5 to go. But next week's ep looks awesome! Can't wait!

Cersia sleeping with Euron..... i think the only reason she changed her mind and allowed him to 'visit her bedchamber' was because she is pregnant with Jamie's baby who has left her, so she will trick Euron into believing it is his kid so he will do her bidding even more.
That's an interesting thought, and I certainly wouldn't put it past her.
But I kinda wonder now, is she even (still) pregnant? I don't know what this means, if anything, but there was a really quick moment that I noticed, after Euron touches her belly and then walks away.. She's plotting something, eyes darting, but then suddenly she's holding back tears. It's just for a second before it cuts to the next scene. o_O

I think that was a Children of the Forest flashback scene a few seasons back, wasn't it? Maybe the spiral symbol is something of theirs. And since they created the Night King...

Recent posts about season 8, including mine, have included spoiler tags. But it takes a bit more time to write and even more time to read them, especially when they quote other, similarly-tagged posts. I just looked through a few posts from previous seasons, and they largely seem to have omitted these tags, probably under the assumption that people should know to stay away until they've seen the latest episode.

So, for the remaining five weeks of GoT's run, maybe we can omit the spoiler tags unless we're posting something like a leak about as-yet-unreleased episodes, including how GoT ends.

Yes I agree
but the mods might not

Edit: even mentioning who is still alive in season 8 is technically a spoiler
