Knew Madison [not personally] from the 2019 ROG Rig Reboot and also watched her entry for it on her YouTube channel... It seems that, that was the only time she was happy to be involved/part of an LTT video...

From what I have read from her Twitter, sorry X posts, being part of LMG and LTT was her dream job but her entire experience was not what she thought was going to be a happy one...

It seems that not everything we see on camera is the same as behind the camera... She used to be part of a few LTT videos then she's no longer in it... I only knew she was no longer with LMG when I read I think some YouTube comments or posts from Reddit, I can't remember exactly...

I'm not sure where the 15.8 million comes from. Socialblade shows they were at 15.6 million a few days ago, so a very slight reduction given that the data is reported to the nearest hundred thousand.

People rarely seem to unsubscribe from channels.
I saw them at 15.7 at some point before this began. Apparently it was higher at some point, I'm not sure when exactly it would have peaked.

Going forward when LMG gets the LABS going full there will be even more just like this.
Nothing but little fish going for the big fish and even bad actors will help destroy real studies and tests from
LMG and GN and others. Not being accurate is one thing and truthful I get but when YouTubers go at each other this is not going to turn out well for human kind. The news from around the world is bad enough as lots of truth is turned into lies to benefit greedy people and corporations.Nothing new said but sad world we live in when more lies than truths.
I think GN and LMG could have done things differently on both sides. They are to get information out truthfully
and at the end of the day make a living as lots of (Big) YouTubers do to pay the bills. Infighting needs to be handled differently or YouTube goes down the drain. Not sure there is an answer that fits all. All YouTubers going after each other has to stop unless done behind the scenes. You're all in it for the same reasons. Please try to get along.

LTT is accessible... I'm not sure if it went down for certain countries or just a server overload but as of this post, I can access the site...

Madison reveals experiences working at LMG
Reading down that thread... what a trainwreck.

Been watching videos that she was present in. Frankly she seems like a nice girl who probably didn't fit in very well with the team (at no fault of her own), and being that LTT seems like it's sometimes run like a freshman college fraternity, I have no doubts that she was probably treated unfairly on the way out. I've been in a similar situation at a workplace with a similar dynamic. These things happen, especially when the folks in charge are more concerned about protecting the status quo than they are about taking these concerns seriously.

We still have to wait for the investigation to confirm (we can't be sure we know all of the details, nor do we know who was involved). But the more I read, the more I'm starting to believe her. This doesn't look to me like something that was made up.

GamersNexus has always been the gold standard in tech journalism to me.

Some people seem surprised by Linus’ actions, but this just seems like he’s always been this way, and just never had it blow up on him. He’s always been open about his channel “playing the YouTube game”, and to expect it to be any different, even when doing “in-depth” testing was silly.

Maybe this is personal bias, but LTT always rubbed me the wrong way. And any video about stuff remotely outside his comfort zone (i.e. anything Linux or Mac related, or not involving gaming) just seemed like he was clueless.

Also, I think that it’s wrong to consider this “GN vs. LTT” like it’s a celebrity beef. More like GN just said “hey, please check your test results.”

I have seen literally 20 of these cases that turned out false, and has lead to ruining the person they were "complaining" about or ruining a company's rep. All I am saying is this is what Social Media has done where it is VERY hard to trust someone these days.

And there are many (Many!) thousands that turned out to be true and more of this stuff is occurring every day.

As to guilty until proven innocent, you're literally applying that logic to Madison's claims being lies.

What I see here is a small company that got big real fast, staffed by a majority of tech nerds that does not yet have the appropriate support in place in terms of official policies, disciplinary processes and employee support structure. They've been assuming they can get by without such "red tape" and while they were smaller probably could.

In the leaked twitter HR meeting video (from a couple of years ago apparently) - Linus asked if people knew about the support available to employees and a significant number did not know what was available (where he asks for a show of hands). This should be a standard part of the employee onboarding process.

Yes, its big company red tape stuff, but big companies don't just do this for fun or to justify people's jobs (as much as it may seem that way) - the reality is (at least in my experience), if you have more than about 5-10 staff in a group, you're going to have some form of conflict and need a dispute/resolution process and a support structure in place. The fact they got this big without a blowup like this (if they did, I'm sure there's more to come out of this) would be absolutely incredible.

LMG has grown very fast in recent years once it hit critical mass and Linus is (or was, getting a real CEO is one of the best decisions he's made recently - but this stuff will take time to take hold) still trying to run it like a plucky startup out of his bedroom. It simply doesn't work for a company of LMG's size, and you simply can't just be friends with everyone and let the innuendo, etc. slide too far or for too long or it eventually escalates beyond an acceptable point or you have a new hire not fit in and get hurt (Which sounds like what happened to Madison - in addition to other, even less savoury things).

This is again part of the YouTube game. He's playing to his audience. I'm sure he himself knows better, he's just trying to make his audience feel good by pretending to be on their level.

His audience is mostly gamer types who like to take a dump on macOS or Linux.

Having due process and an investigation is still very important. Personally, I'm not one to ever really take anything at face value until I'm able to do at least some amount of work to assess credibility of a statement. False accusations happen, and that's a sad and dangerous reality that we can't ignore or sweep under the rug.

But having read her posts in full on Twitter today, and especially after seeing that former coworkers have corroborated her story (including former coworkers who remain close with Linus), that speaks volumes in her favor. To me, it really does not seem as though she is lying, and if the investigation is done fairly, I don't think they will have a hard time at all finding evidence in her favor.

It speaks to a bigger culture issue in my opinion, and while it very likely (hopefully) was not Linus himself who was guilty of the harassment, my hope is that they took the issues seriously when she brought these issues to their attention. From what I can tell, they did not, and apparently swept it under the rug thinking it was much smaller of an issue than it was (despite her vocally telling them that it was a serious issue and that she was uncomfortable).

I worked in a workplace environment like this for years. These things are usually rampant in these kinds of environments, and it usually takes something blowing up to a big proportion before the folks in charge really take it seriously enough to make changes. By then, evidence is usually so plentiful that it's very easy to prove. In my case, it triggered a complete wipe-the-floor-clean replacement of management and about half the staff, but that was unfortunately well after I was already gone and had already been thrown under the bus by people who were trying to protect the status quo (I got my name tarnished pretty badly by one of the managers who was guilty of rampant sexual harassment and was trying to silence people who tried to speak out.)

I'll still be waiting for the results of the investigation. We still don't know all of the details, nor do we know who exactly was involved or what may have been done about it after her departure (and these details are very important in terms of what this means for LMG). But from what I'm seeing so far, I don't see any reason to doubt her. She has been corroborated by people she worked with before who seem very credible, so at this point I think it's very likely she's telling the truth.

I hate the term, but this sort of behaviour is endemic in "tech bro" culture, especially when they're present in large groups.

As I said, stereotypical (but stereotypes exist for a reason normally) poor social skills, especially with the opposite sex = I'd be shocked if something like this had not happened in some capacity. Because I've seen it so many times before in the tech industry in far smaller groups of tech nerds than present at LMG.

That doesn't mean it's OK or excuse it. It also doesn't mean I'm treating people guilty until proven innocent; more to explain that I'd be amazed if this was not a problem, and requires proper support infrastructure in place to deal with it.

Which clearly (if the leaked meeting was anything to go by) was lacking. Hopefully things have improved in the interim, and this is something the new CEO should be totally on top of.

As it is, the recent Madison fallout is over stuff that happened some years ago at this point. Hopefully in the interim, LMG learned from it and improved to some degree already internally; but because of the lack of transparency and acknowledgement AT THE TIME, there's both no way to know and a real requirement to properly go on record with a full investigation and evaluation now.

This is one of those situations that should have been publicly acknowledged and handled back when it happened that has now snowballed. Even outside of just being "the right thing to do" - trying to keep secrets or hide this sort of thing leaves you open to massive damage if/when it surfaces publicly.

edit:
that said, its easy to make this assessment from the sidelines. Linus is a young guy trying to run a massive company and he's certainly made a lot less mistakes than I would have, despite being about 10 years older than he is.

And good ones? Here's mine.

MobileTechReview: Lisa is a sweetheart that has a passion for technology. Her reviews are in-depth, she often opens up the device to inspect details that may affect user experience, and she is impressively as close to objective as you'll get. She really does give every product and brand an equal chance.

Dave2D: I like him the most as far as surface-level reviews go. He has honestly unique, yet reasonable insights into products, tends to stay away from clickbait (although flirting with that route a couple years ago), and his product recommendations aren't always $2999 top-of-the line items like almost every tech youtuber claims to be able to afford, use, and recommend to the average joe-schmoe. He be like," You know, this item is 10% lighter, has an hour extra of battery life, and it looks cool, but I honestly can't recommend you spend a thousand dollars over their cheaper option." He feels authentic and trustworthy. Oh! And he still works in IT! So he has REAL life experience and isn't just a cinematographer who loves tech.

Notebookcheck: Most technically excellent reviews in my opinion. Love their site and love their youtube channel. Their in-depth testing and analysis of every detail is honestly insane. I expect nothing less from Germans. That being said, they are often late to getting their reviews out, often 3-4 months after a release, not always, but often.

MacRumors: I love their reviews and podcast. I actually enjoy hearing and listening to consumer tech in the lens of an Apple-centric viewpoint. Love the hosts. Love the guests they have on the show. It just feels like two friends talking about technology over a coffee. And their reviews, while surface level, aren't full of fluff and well executed for what they are: Technology reviews in the eye of an Apple fanboy. I loved the latest Samsung tablet review, for example, highlighting things he wish the iPad had, while showing areas where Apple executes much better at.
Thank you for the recommendations! I will definitely check those out. I have seen some of Dave2D's videos, but I don't follow him so they don't always pop up.

I regularly watch MKBHD's stuff. I agree with your "meh" comments about him, but his videos have a good presentation and he's a nice guy. I know that last part sounds kind of corny, but I appreciate that he has a good attitude about things. Kind of nerdy but not over the top, highlights the positive things about companies and people instead of focusing on criticisms, etc.

Look, it happens. All I am saying is that the community needs to just stop talking about it. It can spiral into the death of LTT and Linus' image if it's false and people decide to just believe her at face value. It is ignorant to not follow due process and take these investigations seriously. Yes, there are legit accusations but it doesn't make it okay when there are FALSE ones that people just assume are correct because they simply read a tweet.

I think it really irks a lot of people when things like this get brushed to the side. I guess having someone close to me being impacted by false accusations made things a lot more difficult for me. That person's life literally got ruined for something proven false YEARS later. Not everyone can lawyer up and battle this in court.

Now, some of the stuff in the tweets are, and I will be frank here but do NOT take this as I do not care, that it was just how the company operates. I have had times in my career where I was prevented or needed to have VERY GOOD REASON for taking time off. We had crunch times at certain points, due to regulatory timelines (think when tax deadlines are coming up). Some companies even have mandatory overtime at certain points during the year....and you need to have an excuse if you can't work the full 60+ hours. I was prevented from taking vacation at the time and they did question some "sick days" just due to how things work sometimes. I have worked on 24 hour shifts, been on call nearly all my work life.

Some of the requests in the tweets did not seem that horrible. This is not an LTT problem, but an overall business problem impacting many many MANY MANY businesses. Like I said, I have been through grind sessions. I have had similar things spoken to me about my early career if I spoke about being overworked. This is an inherit problem with small businesses growing to be larger. I agree with what you said about closest thing to state on it is "tech bro" culture. And I agree. Men talk to men the way some of the statements read in the tweet and men brush it off in most cases.

Like it or not, this is why major corporations have MASSIVE training, handbooks, even to some degree not allowing ANY jokes (there are some statements Linus makes in the videos that would have NOT been accepted in a few businesses I worked at) except boring dad jokes....if that. You are required to do things yearly to keep up your harassment training, HR regularly telling you that you CAN speak up etc. This stuff is boring to a lot of people but as you can see with the current state of things it is NECESSARY to have a well-running business.

I have been lucky, but also been unlucky with some of my jobs and some of them have had bad experiences like the one discussed.

Do we know to what degree the "inappropriate touching" was? Again, please please PLEASE do not mistake this as saying she is WRONG.....this is what you need to do for INVESTIGATION.....I have seen cases where someone's backpack or shoulder brushes against someone and they FREAK out.

That is ALL I am saying.....this needs to be investigated. Not just believe someone at face value. Don't take twitter messages as evidence, even if there are people that back her up it doesn't prove anything. This is why a third party is involved to do this investigation impartially.

Also, people are going NUTS about this....She said so herself that Linus did not know everything and to what degree. All she could have said to Linus that she was uncomfortable....which is in-line with the meeting LTT had...and he could have not known to what degree. Which makes his statement about being "shocked" accurate. He was shocked to the degree of the allegations. As proven by her.

I do not understand how people are making the leaked meeting a major issue. This is how some corporations handle this. Some send out a random immediate harassment training or revised handbook for you to sign if something happens. But this is why companies have this discussed YEARLY...so people understand that they can speak up.

Things need to be done VERY VERY carefully with opposite sex. You can NEVER have one on one meetings with that person, always have a third person there. Use an office with a glass door if you need to speak about something in private, bring an HR person with you.

Again, please do NOT take what I am saying as I don't care. I have been through this with a personal friend of mine and it turned out to be false. All I am saying is let's stop the speculation and let the investigation do its thing. Having the community try to "guess" the outcome and come to the conclusion that LTT is horrible, then start to boycott leading to their business being ruined all if it turns out to be false or not as severe?

I don't even shake hands with someone of the opposite sex in a business setting if I am alone with that person. People do take advantage or think something happened when it did not. I take the stance that Keanu Reeves does....have you ever notice that he never touches opposite sex fans when it poses for pictures? For this reason.

I think we are mostly on the same page here. And I don't want to get into it more than I have but lets just say my past experiences (as I mentioned a few times now) makes it more difficult for me to accept something like this at face value. Give me the investigation report and I will make my judgement at that time.

I disagree, I think talking openly about these issues, and how its impacting both LTT and Madison should continue. When these topics are swept under the rug, and ignored, that's when matters get out of hand

It can spiral into the death of LTT and Linus' image if it's false and people decide to just believe her at face value
I think LTT and Linus' image is taking a massive hit and its mostly his fault. My take away with Madison is that she had a dream job, which instead turned out to be a nightmare, and while she tried to work through it, she felt that she had no support and help from management. If the allegations are true, that makes the situation so much worse but at the very least it shows a dysfunctional management team

It is ignorant to not follow due process and take these investigations seriously. Yes, there are legit accusations but it doesn't make it okay when there are FALSE ones that people just assume are correct because they simply read a tweet.
I don't think anyone is suggesting that LMG should not follow due process. The investigation both the internal and independent will progress. At least that's going on now, it seems that Madison wasn't afforded this due process when she worked there.

Some of the requests in the tweets did not seem that horrible.
I think it paints a picture of a toxic work environment.

Do we know to what degree the "inappropriate touching"
I'm sorry but its either inappropriate or appropriate. Degrees of inappropriateness is somewhat troubling and discerning. If someone touched a coworker when they shouldn't have, that is wrong period.

Thanks. Oof, those rig reboot vids are always a tough watch.
Maybe usually. But Madison was hilarious in that video and it blew up, leading to fan-demand that she should be hired.

I was about to say that in hindsight it was a bad idea but tbh, no. It's always a good idea to hire good talent. Letting a toxic work environment (alledgedly) flourish so she felt awful and couldn't stay was the bad idea.

I have seen it where a backpack or a shoulder accidentally brushing up against someone and they claim it was inappropriate.

And we CANT talk about it because we only have one side.

Touching is black and white, there are no degrees of inappropriateness. What you describe is not degrees of inappropriateness and its up to the HR department to work with the accuser and the accused

She was fine. But those vids are typically Linus at his worst: unscripted with a relative novice outsider.
