Hmm why get a machine with more RAM, the capacity to drive multiple 4K diplays, faster internal SSD, more thunderbolt channels, and a machine that is dead silent even when pushed to the maximum?

iMac is the sports car that's fast off the line.. but only carries so much. nMP is the SUV with a tow package... :)

For me the only thing that always put me off the iMac was the fan noise. We still have one from 2006, and it's loud as hell. I didn't test all the newer models but I really don't want that kind of fan noise whenever I'm listening to my music.

Just wish there was a headless iMac.. that would probably suit my needs well enough.

Put the faster CPU, and the 780M graphics in a MacMini, and I'd give that a shot.. :D

I agree. According to the MacRumors buyers' guide, it's been 455 days since Apple released their last one. I am sure they have something more powerful to release soon since they normally go 381 days between releases. We'll see, I guess.

I'd also like for my next system to last me more than just a couple of years and that was why I was looking towards a nMP but it's looking as of now like a nMP won't last 5 years even with d700's (if you plan to do any gaming anyways).

What? Mate the ONLY way you can guarantee a system will be playing games fine 5 years from now is if you buy a PS4 or Xbox One!
Also you need to remember drivers drivers drivers. They make a big difference as will running games under Windows using crossfire.
