I’m not sure their interpretation of what they consider ‘new’. Replacement iPhones can be considered ‘like new’ that arrive in a white box without any accessories, but it’s possible it may have been previously used. Apples replacement devices have been thoroughly inspected, which usually includes a new battery, display and outer casing. What I would do when you do receive a replacement device, assuming that’s what they choose to do, is inspect it for any issues.
I actually love the white box replacements. I've found that they go through a really good QA.

I've had two white box "Like new" devices and they were immaculate.

Less small issues than the originals.

I know this is going to sound like I am such a flip flop but I have decided I will end up just sending the device in, i am just doubting myself, at the end of the day the live chat person was the one who said I need to mail it in
The actual stores really never help me and didn't even seem to acknowledge recalls like with my Apple watch battery.

I sent it in and got back one that looked better than the original. My original had a tiny gap between body and glass from day one. I didn't even realize it was an issue until I got this replacement and went "Oh!".

How long did you have the watch before you sent it back? Thanks for your reply!

I had the watch a year and a half but it was under a recall. Do not wait any longer on yours. I got lucky they had issued that recall or I might have been charged.

It took them 1 day to send the box. 2 days to receive. 2 days to send replacement. 1 day to get it.

7 days total because I sent the box out the next day.

Some previous discussions about this kind of thing, like the one at https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/iphone-8-plus-delivered-gap-between-glass-and-sides.2070456/ might be of some help.

Thanks! Yeah this is how my gaps kinda look but only on the back and mine are worse, thanks for this I appreciate it!
[doublepost=1526338009][/doublepost]Just wiped my phone, took the sim out already for tomorrow when I will be sending it off to Apple, so nervous I hate returning things! Hopefully they won’t charge me a £100 diagnostic fee, thanks!

Good luck. Hope it works out. It’ll all depend on who looks at it, and how that person interprets the situation.

Hopefully it’ll work out in your favor.

Also gap in my iPhone X. Went to apple store. They said its normal, cosmetic. Won’t affect water damage.

I agree. I think the when the iPhones are assembled, there is likely some type of slight gap that most don’t notice and it won’t really affect the water resistance in all likeliness. On a tech forum, you have those who are way more particular and analyze their iPhones with a microscope for something that’s really a non-issue that doesn’t need to be replaced. I Don’t think there is anything wrong with being concerned to have it looked at, but most don’t realize it doesn’t always require to be repaired either.

Let me know if they replaced it

Thought the return box was going to come by ups but it just came with my postman, packed the phone up and drove it down to my post office, should be there tomorrow or the next day, I will let you know how I get on :)
[doublepost=1526387001][/doublepost]Also just to add I backed up the phone, then erased all content and setting and the went through setup and never linked any accounts to the phone, removed the SIM card and then I turned the device off, does this sound correct to you guys?
