How long do you think it will take them to look at the device when they receive it? I am so nervous!

Being that you’re sending it in via mail, by the time they receive it, usually takes a minimum of a day or two, then they will update you with their diagnosis, at which point they will send/repair the iPhone back to you, you’re looking at approximately seven days or less for turnaround in _most_ cases.

Thanks

Keep in mind that the X is not a unibody phone made from one piece of glass
While their shouldn’t be any gaps unfortunately there are. This has to do with Apple QC

How long does it take Apple to diagnose it’s been 2 hours, I’m just being impatient

Hey guys, my original phone is being sent back to me, and I don’t think I’m going to have to pay a diagnoses fee. Nothing wrong was found during diagnoses, I am kind of happy that this is normal and I don’t have to worry about this being not normal anymore, thanks for all your guys help and advice.

In your situation, at least you know that they inspected the device and found nothing to be wrong. Based on your pictures, I never thought the gaps in your iPhone were a problem to begin with.

I just got a text saying my Apple order is out for delivery, do you think there still could be a chance they sent out a replacement device or could my “Apple order” just be my original phone

LOL, maybe they made a mistake and are sending you the new X Plus!

I would say that this is the end of this but bet not. I hope they did not damage the phone while inspecting.

Do you think they could have swapped out some parts while inspecting and then simply said they didn't find anything wrong with it and sent it back after that?

I guess anything is possible. I would say the inspector took about 30 seconds for inspection and sent it back to shipping to return to the owner..

I would bet a year's salary that the OP will find something new wrong (a scratch, a ding, dust under the screen or camera lens, etc.) and will blame Apple for whatever it is. It is a never ending cycle/story that has to have drama to feed it somehow. The paranoia of whether they did something to the data on the phone, installed some kind of tracking software to compromise it, something to the battery. Oh, my battery drains so much faster now, what did they do to it?

Something

Took mine to the Apple Store. They acknowledged the gap and offered to replace the screen. But they recommended against it because they couldn’t guarantee there wouldn’t be another gap and a replacement screen would be more likely to compromise the water resistance than the factory screen.

They also assured me that the gap won’t affect the water resistance. That was my biggest concern.

So I decided to just keep it as is. I’ve been using it for the last couple weeks and it hasn’t really bothered me that much. Sometimes I have to clean the gunk out of the gap, but oh well.

Well... I suppose if it’s been determined to be a standard manufacturer build issue, and therefore not “defective” then he can sell it in clear conscience.

If I paid that price, I would expect a consistent proper looking “fit”.

If the gap were consistent all the way around the phone. As in an obvious styling “flair”, then that would be one thing.

But it sounds like there is commonly a gap, but that it varies where and how much, by each phone.

While it may not be a “problem”, it is telling of poor manufacturing.

In mass production, there is an expectation of consistency. I expect two devices / machines of the same brand, model, and revision, to be indistinguishable from each other until they have been used and suffered scarring or blemishes that make them unique from a person utilizing them (whether industrial or consumer).

If Apple can’t figure out how to design something so that every single one is identical when it’s produced, then that’s very telling of their quality, design, and workmanship.

Billions of products roll out of factories every day without so many unique characteristics on an individual item.

I’m not saying the iPhone X is bad. It’s just that I find it surprising that they cannot get a consistent fit.

Selling it, I’m done with Apple, getting a OnePlus 6, also thanks for your reply

In fairness to OP, the gaps are NOT normal. Apple just wants him to go away.

There were no gaps whatsoever on any display model at Best Buy the other night when I looked, and I checked specifically for that issue.

If the gaps were meant to be there by design, then every iPhone X would have them, and the gaps would universally be identical on every single iPhone X.

So whether it affects the use or not, it does very much indicate that Apple is incapable of quality control.

If I were a potential new Apple customer looking at choices and saw that kind of variation in different units, I would assume that Apple was a very low quality option.
