That’s what they have marketed it as

I guess without moving the phone the user needs to move their head towards the phone.

OP, at least you gave it a go :)

I only seem to use FP scanner as it doesn't bother me at all and it's the fastest option.
Seriously though, I'm seriously contemplating ditching all but startup code as my phone never leaves my side, I've never lost my phone and good luck trying to pilfer it out of my front pocket.

Nothing works as good as TID yet
Maybe some of the other FPS on other android phones are just as good as TID? I haven't tried any others so I don't know

I do love TID though. Which is why I'm apprehensive about it going away on the iPhone X.

Yeah I won’t get one unless it comes back for X1, and I cant use a FP on the back either not for my business phone anyway, if it was a second I could.

Which is why I’ll probably end up with the 8 plus this year. I’m just waiting to hear more about the X before making my decision and also trying to see if there are enough reasons to upgrade to the 8 plus rather than the X. I will be getting a new iPhone this year I’m just a bit confused at the moment lol

Keeping note ?
[doublepost=1506254390][/doublepost]I'm in 2 minds about keeping the Note, I've hardly used the pen all week since taking delivery of the N8.
With that taken into account. I' wondering whether to return it and keep the 7+ until the s9 is released.
I've no complaints about the phone but it feels like a bigger s8+, thats not a bad thing but the s8 is half way through its cycle now. It would've been a lot cheaper to get a s8+

Just thinking aloud. Any input appreciated

I’m not sure why Samsung decided to put the fingerprint scanner where they did. It’s as far away as possible for all but those with huge hands, at least it’s not as hard to smudge the camera this time around. The phone is longer than pretty much any other phone, it would have made more sense to put the scanner closer to the middle.

One thing I don’t understand is why nobody except for Sony puts the fingerprint scanner into the power button, seems like the ideal location.

I think I’ll keep it. I have a few options return it and get the 8 plus on contract. Keep it. Or sell it and put the money towards the iPhone X. However I think I’ll be keeping it.

Apparently Samsung have said that’s the only place they could put it as the rest of the back is taken up with components.

The phone is lovely. The only issue I have is trying to juggle two phones and I don’t want to leave the Apple ecosystem even if their phones this year are lacklustre.

is it really that bad of a location to put a fingerprint scanner? The home button made sense when there was an actual home button but now that so many are simply virtual buttons, what's wrong with the print scanner on the back?

Even when using the home button on my Note 5 it isn't exactly in the "best" / most comfortable place. I'm either picking the phone up and supporting it with my index finger then sliding my thumb towards it or tapping the home button with my index finger and leaving it on the desk and then picking it up to use.

With the button on the back, it's actually safer in terms of ergonomics as I have a full grasp of the phone with my thumb and remaining three fingers while my index is then used on the print scanner.

First off, it's an amazing performing phone. But the thing that I couldn't get past is the lack of a home button. I never realized how much I use my phone sitting on my desk or table, and the hover my face over or pickup to use thumb reader on back started getting old fast.

as noted earlier, you do have a virtual home button, along with two other virtual buttons. In terms of security there are a number of options if you wish to use it on your desk. Print wise, I'd use an index finger vs thumb.

Me too! if I stay will apple I'll probably get an 8+ for £899
or wait 6 months and get a Note 8+ for 33% off discount £582 maybe a bit more with S9 announcement Feb 2018. May even consider an S8+ if 50% off.

So £316 for headache free iOS

I'm not swung towards the X at all, not 'my thing'.

Yeah it's a bad location, terrible might be a better word. I agree with the op that there is no great solution for security when the phone is flat on your desk, it's even worse if it's in a car cradle.

call me silly as I don't mind the positioning. Works for me. I've used a mix of Iris and Fingerprint scans to open and do things on my phone. With Smart-lock and on-body detection though, it's not often that I need to really unlock it though.

I also now have my fingerprint scanner configured to pop up Samsung Pay by swiping up with my index finger. That quickly puts me in position to authorize it's use by then putting my index finger on the scanner itself so I can complete the transaction.

OP I've read that iOS to Android is a difficult road to go down, and not to be taken lightly.
Full prep and a "14 day rule" needs to be adhered to.
No pain no gain, but 14 days minimum, 4 days......you've given up too early!;)

I've found it surprisingly easy. Long time iPhone user and loving the Note 8 & Android. The iPhone X will have to be amazing for me to give this up and pay the massive difference.

All good with unlock? desk etc?

Unlocking isn't as good as what I'm used to with the 7+ but it doesn't bother me anymore. I don't find the battery as good but it's still getting me through the day. All in all, loving the phone and new OS experience.

Hi
How can you be sure of this?

They just released the iPhone 8 because
a) production quantities for the 10 (X) couldn't be met
b) they can test the X for 1 year and iron out the biggest bugs

Expect just a X.2 next year and no iPhone 9

Maybe some of the other FPS on other android phones are just as good as TID? I haven't tried any others so I don't know
The sensor on the Oneplus 3/3T / OP5 is even faster than TID. It's ridiculously fast and accurate.

Between trusted places, trusted devices, fp, iris, and face scan. I think they’ve packed the device with plenty of security options.
