Just had my 14 delivered via courier.

$9 via UBER driver!

So easy peasy - didn't have to drive to an Apple store, burn gasoline, or wait in a line!

What a nice way to start the weekend - stress free.

Hmmm I was just thinking about this. Something came up for my boyfriend during our scheduled time. When he ordered, we set up a trade-in for him. I'm thinking I can still just pick it up (I'm the official pick-up person on the order) for him and say yes he'll be back later to turn in the old phone. I'm pretty sure you can as long as it's in the 14-day window.

If anybody knows if I have this wrong, please let me know.

If that does work, you could possibly pick up your phone, take it home to set up, and bring back your old phone later.
So I’m curious, how did this play out? Or did the situation resolve to Where your boyfriend was able to go in to trade in?

I originally ordered with T-Mobile- due to issues with the payment system in Europe, they had to redo orders and I never got a delivery confirmation. This morning I woke up to a message saying my delivery would be delayed 5 weeks. So I cancelled it and happened to find a phone I wanted on the Apple Store with an in person pickup time on Sunday. I think they just became randomly available off and on and I got lucky.

Then it sat there in the processing phase all day. My card was never charged. I contacted Apple Support online, and they told me my only choice was to cancel it and order again, and wait the weeks until it was available again.

So I took a chance and stopped by my local Apple Store (Amsterdam) and showed them my pickup time on Sunday that was still processing. I explained that I only wanted to know if it would go through before I waited in line Sunday. They confirmed that it was a payment issue, but could see they had that model in stock, and if I was willing to wait in line, I could just grab it today. I waited about 40 minutes.

A big thanks to them for a great experience despite the hiccups. I now have the phone I wanted and the case I wanted.

It seems the stores have a decent amount of stock for walk ins, maybe due to the preorder system these days.

We decided to try to get in and do just the trade-in and make sure the e-sim transferred and get out before his meeting. It worked!

Unfortunately our Apple employee was new (though very nice) and the e-sim did not transfer so later we had to call Verizon. Yet again. 😳

But all worked out in the end.

That’s annoying about the e-sim not transferring, but glad everything worked out!

I got home with my new phone a bit ago. As I talked through my options for transferring my data from my old phone to my new phone, the sales person did say I had the option to take the new phone home, do the device to device transfer, and then bring the old phone back to do the trade in within 14 days, so it sounds like that should totally have been an option for you too.

I’m also learning something new— one of the most annoying thing about restoring from backups historically has been that none of my music and movies would transfer in the backup— I’d have to go back in and re-download stuff manually.

Transferring phone to phone directly actually did move media downloads from my old phone to my new phone last year, hence my interest in that method.

A week ago when I preordered and opted to trade-in my existing phone, a new “Temporary iCloud Backup” was automatically created over the next couple days. I noticed it was rather large compared to my usual iCloud backups— about 90GB, and it did not include photos since those are backed up separately in iCloud Photo Library. I was intrigued, it looked like this could very much be my media.

So I decided to try using this Temporary iCloud Backup— and it does look like it’s restoring those media files.

Super happy about this—such an improved experience! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

(None of the people I spoke to at the Apple store could answer my question as to whether that temporary backup would include my media files. I’m sure this information exists somewhere and I just didn’t read up on it.)

Finally picked up my phone today and my case from Best Buy (across the street from the Apple Store). I just finished transferring my data from my old phone, but it's still installing all the apps. The only thing that I'm nervous about is the eSim transfer. Never used an eSim before so I'm not sure how call quality will be. Also, I'm on a prepaid plan and have seen a couple of people say they had problems transferring the prepaid plan.

The type of sim used (physical vs esim) doesn’t affect call quality.

Awesome!!!!!!

Yes, personally that would have been nice to know, but I'm so glad you found out and shared: hopefully other people can do that, too!

Ordered the iPhone 13 Mini thanks to the price drop. Upgrading from an iPhone 6 (yes, really). Going to the Apple store tomorrow to pick it up.

Others may disagree, but I think the 0% interest installment plan is a really nice option. Just had top pay the tax up front.
I like the 0% interest plan. I just hate that you have to pay off your entire CC balance first before they allow early payments on the installment plan.

I was thinking about moving my mom from her 2nd generation SE to a iPhone 13 mini, but I noticed she's using her phone real heavy now, so I think I'm going to upgrade her to the baby blue 14. Also i think she may be superstitious of the #13 so I'm not sure she would have wanted the mini, now that I think about it. 😅

The curse has been lifted now that I unloaded my 13 Pro 😁

Yea that doesn't make sense. Most cards if you do interest deferred, you need to pay the minimum, and then the rest of the payment should cover the oldest interest deferred balance. Or worst case, some you have to specify you want the extra to go to the deferred balances
