Dell's Customer Service is actually top-notch. Especially if you purchase through Dell Business. The support from India could use some work, but when you sell as many computers as Dell they need to have some wall to deal with 85% of the people that call in because they can't plug in a mouse.

This Dell bashing should stop -- The Precision Line, Latitudes, XPS, are all top-notch.

Vista is also good. Vista X64 with 10GB RAM and a Velociraptor HD is just as stable as OSX any day.

By the way: I ordered a new Mac Pro -- I love OSX...I use all OS's. But some of you Apple Followers make me SICK.

Cheapest parts possible? Back up that claim? I have several Precision T7400's, XPS 720, 730, XPS M1330, M1530, and 50 Optiplex Workstations...the parts are not cheap -- certinaly no different than Apple.

I can picture you apple fanatics......skinny, blonde hair, glasses pushed up on head....walk sort of funky....Get over Yourself!

If anyone needs to get over themselves it would be yourself -

Saying Dell doesn't use cheap parts and is "no different" than Apple is moronic

You sure got THAT right! DELL's home systems are the cheapest crap there is. It doesn't get any worse! Their workstations aren't too bad though! :)

LOL - Lets see, my iMac (7600GT variety) has been fried TWICE... both times I had to box it up and take it in as Apple doesn't do home service. The refurb Dell I bought my mom died because of a lightning strike (it still ran but became very flaky and lost a few ports) and Dell sends someone out the NEXT day to replace the motherboard.

The fact is, both use the same exact components but Apple charges an arm an leg for the fancy case. (their laptops have at times been made by the same company at the same factory)

The same can and has been said about Apple for many years. Look at the plastic MacBooks. Remember all the complaints about the cracking and peeling of the cases? Remember the complaints about the horrible video cards?

iPhones poorly manufactured. iMacs having gardient lighting. These problems haven't exactly made me think Apple is superior to HP or even Dell or anyone else. I would say they are about equal.

We pay these insane high prices for the case designs and OS. All computers have the same parts inside.

What are you trying to get at?

Dell and Apple both use similar components.

Not even close.

MotherBoard, Case, PSU, DVD drive... All total crap (the cheapest money can buy) in a DELL home system. I wouldn't put it past them to use reconditioned RAM either (actually Apple too in the RAM's case). It's not till you get up around the Precision line that DELL actually has anything of quality to offer.

Apple at least tries to use somewhat quality parts in their lower lines.

Umm, aren't we talking about this year? Not ancient history?

They sure have for me!!!

Not true. See above post.

The white MacBook is still in the current offering of Apple products.

All one has to do is visit the Apple support forums and you will see just how many people are having problems with anything Apple. It's no different than any computer support forums.

Yeah, they aren't made of solid titanium with all over-spec'ed server grade parts or anything. :D

Remember Apples Time Capsule? They claimed it was made with server grade hard drives. They flat out lied. When it was torn aprart, it was found out to be some off brand that was hardly server quality.

Apple notebooks are still reasonable; the mini is not.

Please check the prices of the Dell Studio Hybrid or any other computer as compact as the mini.

IMO, the issue with Apple is not the price of their computers but the fact that they refuse to play in the low end market. It is actually less expensive to develop computers using low end parts and/or subpar designs. That is what you are getting with the cheap windows machines. When you compare Apples to Apples (pun intended), you will see that the prices are comparable, but you have to compare the correct models.

Mac mini - Dell Studio Hybrid
iMac - Dell XPS One
MacBook - Dell Studio XPS 13 Laptop

The MacBook Pro and the Mac Pro are pricey but they are very nice computers.

Nope, don't know anything about a time capsule whatever that is. I'm not an "Apple Follower" or even a fan. And of course every company cheats and stuff. It's bad. Whoever does it should get slapped with fines and stuff but...

All I know is as a consumer with general industry knowledge that when I've looked at the engineering, design, and component selection, of Home and Workstation grade systems and done comparisons Apple usually comes out higher than average or at least in the upper averages. DELL and HP are usually at the bottom in regards to their Home grade lines. Those two specific companies just happen to be notorious worst case examples. :p

I call BS and object on the basis of it's anecdotal nature.

I dunno anything about laptops. :) So you could have me there. They seem solid. :D
<shrug>

So if you don't know enough about the current Apple computers, how can you claim that they are so well built with quality parts? You can't.

Who said I don't know enough about current Apple products? This thread is NOT about TimeCapsules and LapTops. Is it?

It's about Apple in general isn't it? The OP is fed up with Apple using overpriced parts. The same can be said about anything Apple currently sells now. Don't tell me you've missed all the bitching for the past week.

All computers have the same parts inside.

If you thought about it, you'd realize that this just isn't true, EVEN for a single vendor. Why would Dell have three different lines of laptops for home users (Inspiron, Studio, XPS) and three different lines for business users (Vostro, Latitude, Precision)? They use different components. Hell, in the Latitude you get THREE choices just for wireless N cards. They don't even sell the Inspiron line to businesses. Why do you think that is?

Dell has the most screwed up lineup of computers.

I sold my iMac for a PC as well. My quad I built handles everything much better than the iMac can and I'm not about to drop $2k+ on a pro lol

I'm just a gamer at heart,

Add to that list the new 17" MBP video card problems: overheating, garbled displays, etc....

I'll spare you the story of how I came to want a mac, how I waited months for the new releases, and how sit here shocked now that the new models are very unimpressive. All I have to say is goodbye mac. I came here knowing my premium amount of money going into your pockets would get me a premium system, now all I see is an overpriced downgrade with wimpy graphics, and an already outdated CPU.

I'll be ordering a Dell XPS 435, and though I'm sure Apple will not miss the $1,800 with their name on it, its the only stand I can take against this botched update...

Is anyone else giving up on getting an iMac?

Sounds like a troll post...

Who cares if it says Dell or Apple on the case. Get the system you like best and most meets your need.
