The EU? Apple proudly showed off this feature last year with Safari. And it's actually a quite nice way to interact with some websites. Mac apps are not really a thing.
Precisely. This works great for streaming sites without apps and webmail when the listed settings won’t work in Mail/Outlook (yahoo, spectrum/charter, aol…).

Guys Web Apps died a long time ago! Why are we going back to the late 1990s? The EU?

Hmmm. While some believe a native app is the best/only option (making Tim very happy), the list of major sites with PWAs suggests others are happy that a simple PWA from Starbucks is just fine for ordering coffee.

No they aren’t. At least nowhere near the level of google whose business model is to do just that. Thanks bro.
Apple's global advertising revenue in 2022 was $4.7 billion, up from $3.7 billion in 2021. Statista projects that Apple's ad revenue will reach $13.7 billion by 2027. One analyst predicts that Apple's ad sales will rise 42% in 2023 to $7.5 billion and reach $19 billion by 2026.

If they are not doing as well as Google, it is because they are not good enough, not for lack of trying.

I agree with others that this isn't exactly new, just streamlined in how the feature is presented to users. I wonder if this would make life better trying to work between multiple MS Teams servers. I have to use Teams for work, and it's a terrible, terrible user experience. If this install as app thing holds separate app storage and cookie stores, maybe I can have multiple Teams connections open in multiple instances of the Chrome web shells. (I know I could probably do this with other thin browser shells too, I just haven't looked yet).

Apple does it in a sneaky way.

"Since ATT launched in the spring, Apple hasn’t been asking for permission to personalize ads across apps like Apple News and App Store. It will, however, begin asking for those people who download the latest iOS 15 update. Sure, it may look like Apple is holding itself to the same standards as everyone else, but that’s only part of the story. The way Apple asks for this permission might raise an eyebrow or two as it significantly differs from the ATT messaging and other app providers. Essentially, it comes down to semantics: when Apple wants someone’s data to serve them relevant ads in the App Store and App News they’re asked to opt in to its “Personalised Ads” service, whereas other app owners have to ask users if they want to be “tracked” for ad targeting. Unsurprisingly, Apple believes the difference is more than just language. "

Notice I said nowhere near the same extent. Apple is nowhere as aggressive as google and the most diehard android fans will admit that.

Microsoft also sells data. I trust them more than google. I trust Meta more than google and that saying something.
Like you backed your claim that Google is selling your data?
Google is pretty transparent about this. Hence why they can pay apple 18 billion so they can be default to harvest and sell data

They’re an advertising company…
Just because Apple has a hardware division does not mean it is not in the ad business.

Add to this the annual fee it picks up from Google for making it the default search engine on iOS, which 36% of the ad revenue.

Google's ad revenue from Android is 68 billion. Apple is already earning around 45 billion.

Edge has had this feature since the Chromium version came out years ago. Odd that Google is just now catching up on this.
Being that Edge is the preferred browser over Chrome do to the memory issues and malware extensions… lately Google has been copying just about every unique feature of Edge.

Google refusal to make apps for their products is infuriating.

Youtube music, keep

And those idiots don't even implement caching for pwa which means Google apps don't work offline lol. Truly an awesome experience with Google

but it's still the chrome way for pwa innit ?

meaning you need to have the whole chrome browser opened. unlike safari web apps, it don't open apps as a standalone option
