Yup, and some sites (this included) even show an Install icon in the address bar to the left of the bookmark star. That's been there a long time too.

If you think market share equals quality I have bad news for you..
Your comment was "does anybody use Chrome." As I said, 66% use it. If you think Safari is the better-quality browser, maybe it is for your use case. But 66% of the userbase disagree with you.

Just because Apple has a hardware division does not mean it is not in the ad business.

Add to this the annual fee it picks up from Google for making it the default search engine on iOS, which 36% of the ad revenue.

Google's ad revenue from Android is 68 billion. Apple is already earning around 45 billion.
Via completely different mechanisms.

I’m not disputing Apple is in the business, but Google’s entire business model is advertising.

Would you please stop putting words in peoples mouths? It’s not a good look. We get it you like chrome, I and many others don’t.

This is what you posted (People still Chrome?). What exactly does it mean.

Btw, I use Google Password manager across my Mac, iPhone, and iPad and have never had any problems.

Not entire business model.

It has Google Cloud, App Store, and other bets.

Remember when Microsoft tried to make their whole Windows operating system run in the browser and people hated it so much they had to get rid of it! I think it was called Windows Vista? It was a nightmare! Are we trying to bring that back?

This be witchcraft! Lord Tim and Sir Craig doth deem so! Witch! Witch! Witch! Heretics, don't burn the steak. I like mine medium-well.

I see the move as a we better proact before the governments react against us. I'm don't really Chrome on my Mac/iOS products. The rest of the family Chromes on their HP laptops.

Yes. In addition to Apple's own ad business, they are also essentially a "partner" in Google's ad business by taking a revenue cut (around $18 billion per year) from making Google the default search on Safari.

Can you elaborate? I am not aware of any version of Windows where the "whole operating system” would run in the browser. The closest thing perhaps would be Windows 365 (Cloud PC) but that only came out 2-3 years ago, is still available, and is geared towards the business/enterprise market.

The desktop app feature being described in this thread wouldn’t be that anyway.

Was gonna say this. This is exactly how you do it and I use that for gmail which for some reason doesn’t have a pwa install button

Am I missing something? I've almost always had this and never understood the point. Just added more icons to my desktop, instead of my bookmarks bar. I later removed all of them and felt no difference.
Who keeps asking for these things?

You're reading too far into a cheeky comment, that's what it means. Also the fact you use google password manager is why you don't have problems. Without it Chrome doesn't detect changed passwords even though it should. No other browser needs a special password manager for such basic functionality.

Steve Jobs dream was web apps going mainstream, it's cool that Google is finally making that real on a Mac.

Guys Web Apps died a long time ago! Why are we going back to the late 1990s? The EU?

Silly Chrome, webpages aren't apps.

Welcome to the Educational Corner!

Web Apps are indeed a thing. A correctly-built web app, built using the PWA (Progressive Web App) design, can work entirely offline by using what are called "Service Workers", which proxy a remote web server. Once an internet connection is available again, any new data is pushed to the server.

Some sites claim to offer PWA functionality, but don't quite check all items.

My bank recently released a new banking app, which is effectively a PWA wrapped by a native app wrapper. At first, I knocked them for cheating, but have slowly grown to see its strengths. When done properly, a web-based app can actually feel very good to use. When done properly.

I would not trust a banking App that is a PWA especially if I had a lot of money in that account! Better safe than sorry!

I didn't say that at all, but they are it's literally in their business read the ToS and you'll see it.
You make a claim, all while full knowing that it is impossible for any two Google lawyers to parse the ToS in a consistant manner.

I’m just confused what’s new about this lol it’s already there

Also, anything chrome related shows up here, there’s the spambots that spam “omg chrome is the worst browser, no privacy, who uses chrome anymore?!, it uses so much RAM and CPU, Safari and Edge are SO much better!!”

Nothing new. Everyone knows this and nobody cares — it’s still the most popular browser out there lol, y’all wasting your time and energy by commenting the same thing over and over again.

This is coming from someone who primarily uses Safari and Firefox as a backup.

Never underestimate the legacy of large, lumbering businesses:

The trick is that these aren't really PWAs. The majority of user-facing banking services are CICS-based COBOL apps that are leveraging a screen scrape of an IBM 3270 terminal. The idea that they are now front-ending these 40+ year old systems with a PWA interface is simply how they do what they call "advanced technology".

Yes, I have worked with many finance & banking companies. You really don't want to know, but in short, these institutions are very much against modifying their legacy implementations.

Chrome already does this. I have a whole folder of chrome apps. Brave also does this. I get a prompt to install macrumours as an app on this very page by clicking on the pc/download icon in the address bar.
