Google seen testing Pixel 4 improved face unlock in public. Hopefully, it's more secure than Face ID in regards to differentiating semi-evil twins, family members, mom/son, boyfriend/girlfriend, etc.

This screenshot seems to indicate that it'll have the same issue, at least regarding identical twins.

Evil twin issue has varying degrees. With Face ID it has a known issue with identical twins that strangers also have difficulties telling apart. Worse, though, is it has issues differentiating family members of different age and sex such as mom/son, father/son, unrelated friends, even boyfriend/girlfriend, etc. that would be obvious for a human to tell apart. So, while Google's implementation will likely have the same issue with identical twins it's curious to see how they handle other cases that a human can easily tell apart.

Another thing I’ve discovered re: iOS vs Android is that iOS handles 3rd party password managers much much much better. On android I constantly have to force the prompt to pop up whereas on iOS it’s just happens.

Completely agree here...one of the big reasons I defer to my iPhone as my daily driver while my Pixel is a secondary device.

I don't hate the iPhone, I'm actually jealous of the 11 Pro Max in the battery and design department. Apple creates amazing hardware, no question. Huge battery, and thicker phone, thank you. A+ display. Super fast fluid OS. It's just iOS that irks me, I'm too used to stock Android all these years, I find iOS very uncomfortable and jarring for me, plus I have zero other Apple products, no iWatch, no iPad, no MacBook, nothing Apple in my house, so the whole ecosystem is meaningless to me. I'm not against those products, they look great, just not interested in having them. I don't wear watches, and not a tablet fan, and prefer Intel Windows laptops.

I really like the OnePlus 7 Pro as well, but the curved edge screen is a turn off.

Knowing you and your preferences TB, as nice as you may find iPhone hardware, you’ll still hate using iOS—far too restricted for your tastes. The reasons you disliked it before are mostly all still there.

Well, I’m hoping Google pull out some magic with the rumored battery size, because the iPhone pro max battery life is ridiculous. Its been great for me, but after watching some battery test videos it’s pretty clear it’s the new battery champ. Completely destroyed the Mate 30 pro and Note 10 plus even with them running at a lower display resolution.

- iOS gestures feel much better, but I hate how some 3rd party apps dont support drag from side of screen to go back and still force you to find wherever they put the back arrow.

This has been a major annoyance since I very quickly got used to the new swiping gestures on the Pixel 2 XL!

I have always considered the stereo speakers on the Pixel 2 to be superb, but the ones on the Pro Max are surprisingly a big improvement!

I agree about notifications. They are better on Android.

I also miss swiping up to see AI app recommendation based on what I frequently used.

Still prefer android to iOS but the gap isnt as big as it used to be.

This is true. Android has more in common with iOS than customized versions of Android such as Samsung UI.

But Pixel still wins when it comes to moving objects. I still get more blur when trying to snap pictures of my son than when I had my Pixel.

Yeah. Pixels are king when it comes to snapping photos that 9 out of 10 times look superb. I don't have the same confidence with the iPhone and shoot several snaps in case the first photo isn't perfect.

I'm finding that Siri search does that really well for me. More often than not I'll find the app I'm looking for by just swiping down on the home screen.

I keep going back and forth, think I am really going to need to see an amazing camera, which we probably will see. The iPhone Pro having great battery life, and a great night camera changed the game, Pixel was first, but the iPhone implementation is better in my opinion. Though I am expecting great things from the Pixel 4 camera system, battery life I am not so sure about, hardware either.

There is a rumor floating around today that this puppy might cost more then the iPhone... 🤨

If this happens um... I think the 4 will be dead in the water

//

Also had another thought and that's about the potential 4a... Would there be one? (Especially with the price already, not mentioning higher rumor prices) and the good success of the 3a? Makes me wonder, I mean if there is a 4a? Who'd spring for a (possible iPhone 11 price) of the 4?

//

Once again I'm sitting on the fence on the 4 (for various reasons).

I can’t imagine Google will be foolish enough to do that with the pricing. They already struggle to move the Pixel line at the current price.

The 3XL 128gb is £969 in the UK, so it must have been at least $900 in the US. Did anyone really expect it to be cheaper than last year with everyone upping their prices?

I'd have probably bought an 11 Pro Max if you could jailbreak it from the start. The only other brand of phone I'm totally happy with camera wise.

I didn't expect it to be cheaper...just not over inflated. Google has had hardware issues in the past. It took my 4 Pixel 3 XL before I got one without hardware issues.
I personally buy the Pixel models for their great camera and user experience.
But the Note 10 and the 11 Pro Max have caught up to the Pixel line now and provide more features.

I hope Google has something other than what has been reported/leaked so far at this point to justify an $1100 price point.

I donno... We've all seen Google pull some pretty bone headed stuff time to time. The price is already pretty up there considering, seeing how far they can push it will start pushing people to other devices. Hopefully this is just a rumor and prices will be more in check.

Make of this what you will. According to the YouTube channel Front Page Tech, a source from Google reached out to him to say the leaked prices are "Not entirely true".

I think they'll be expensive, but not that expensive. I personally don't think some random Irish website has accurate prices this early.

Damn, I didn’t know Face ID could fail that much. I am not worried about an evil twin. If I had a twin, I’m more likely to be the evil one. And if they were more evil than me, I’d have had them done away with sometime in the 1980’s before they got to be too troublesome. 😈 (And yes I’m joking, for all the lurkers out there who don’t know me and are clutching their pearls).

But parents and kids and even one’s infant? Yikes!

I can’t say I’m a fan of the black frame around the white phone, but that’s totally subjective. I’m not buying one, but I’m keeping a close eye on this Pixel launch. Particularly the camera (of course) and the facial recognition tech. It’ll be interesting to see how they compare to the competition. I’d love to see the iPhone/Pixel camera war continue so that both companies continue pushing the other forward.

Nice. I’m looking forward to the Google event. Yes, the forehead is outdated, but I have an iPhone 8+ and the Pixel 4 looks revolutionary in comparison, haha.

Also, I hope there is an option to show just the icons on the lock screen and not the text. It looks like there might be? That’s the default settings for the lock screen notifications in Samsung’s OneUI and I really like that.
