If those rumored prices are true, well then, it's going to make it really hard to toss one in my cart on the 15th, after all, I got 2 working XLs up to date and rooted that seem to be working fine for my basic daily tasks.

I'd probably pass, even that pumpkin spice color. For those prices, I'd want something new and a bit different...

Heck, if it wasn't for the camera and being a bit of a photog myself, I'd probably would have snatched up a OP7 pro by now.

I mean, it could work... Target "pros" with the $1,000+ Pixel 4 and 4XL, while launching a Pixel 4a for regular consumers at ~$600 w/o Soli or the triple camera design. If the 3a was indeed the best selling Pixel, they might as well just follow.

I was hoping for a bigger display than 6.2". The size of the Note 10+ screen is one of the main reasons I've considered it.

Regardless of how good or how bad any of these hands on claims the 4XL to be, I'll reserve judgement until a proper fully working unit is tested.

If the Pixel 4/XL has terrible battery life it’ll be easy for me to pass this year and stick with my 3a for my Android fix. Soli had better be 100% and not in beta or “functional in a coming update” as Google loves to do. Regardless I am never again spending more than $700 - $800 on an Android phone and will wait until the inevitable Pixel 4 price drop come Thanksgiving / holidays.

Good points, it's kinda of stupid to buy a brand new flagship Android phone at alunch, because they ALWAYS have sales and steep discounts like 2 to 3 months later. Look at Samsung phones, like 3 or 4 months later they're giving away their latest flagship, and carriers have BOGO and big trade in offers, etc...

So the Pixel 4 XL, might be $950 at launch, but then in a couple months, it'll have a one day sale with like $300 off.

I hope it turns out to be a success. What do you think of this pricing structure for the base models?

Pixel 4a: $400
Pixel 4aXL: $500
Pixel 4: $650
Pixel 4XL: $750

At these price points I'd imagine Google would get a lot of people to buy? With potential game-changing facial recognition, killer camera, and stock Android w/ day one updates. Launch it with all of the carriers. Would be a major win for Google.

That's where it should be. Price the highest end Pixel XL, lower than a iPhone Max, but more than a OnePlus Pro phone. So if the 7 Pro is like $650, and a iPhone 11 Pro Max is $1,100, then the Pixel 4 XL should be like $875 at most. But it should be far less than a iPhone, and a bit closer to a OnePlus, so yeah, $799 for the XL would be perfect

I think for the 4 & 4XL, it’s sadly wishful thinking. I can’t think of the last time a really good flagship launched with surprisingly lower prices than we expected. I know some will point to the 11 being cheaper than the XR but it’s not a flagship.

Oh I know...extreme wishful thinking. Heck I'd settle for base P4 at $700 and P4XL at $800. Anything higher will be a pass until holidays / discounts.

I'd have thought it makes more sense to sell a product at a lower price and get it in the hands of consumers, than sell it much higher and nowhere near as many.

Especially this year now Google are set to sell with all the major US carriers (sure that's a first?). Get people hooked and then increase with some killer features on future releases. But then what do I know about business. lol

So official U.S. carriers selling the Pixel 3 now, are Verizon and T-Mobile. Will the Pixel 4 see it go to ATT and Sprint stores as well?

For Google to really get it's name out there and in the public eye, they need the Pixel on all carriers, and advertise the **** out of it, and also offer deals and discounts, to get peoples hands on it.

On Friday I upgraded to an 11 Pro Max from a Pixel 2 XL.

What I miss about the Pixel
-Low weight. The Pro Max is a heavy phone and sounds like dropping a brick when it falls on the bedroom floor.
-The ability to use the phone with one hand. Although mine are large, the Pro Max is a two handed phone. I understand why Apple Watches are popular as they reduce the number of times you need to pick up the brick sized phone.?
-Ability to quickly share a picture from anywhere to Whatsapp, Email or messaging. Just long press and click share.
-Photos that pop, don't need filters and are instantly sharable! Images processing on the iPhone is very true to life but I prefer the subtle but sophisticated pop of photos on the Pixel.

What I love about the iPhone
-The three cameras. I thought it was a gimmick but this is an example where software can only get you so far. -Someones hardware needs a big fat upgrade. The wide, ultra wide and telephoto genuinely feels like you are getting three different cameras in one phone.
-Video is utterly incredible and blows the Pixel out of the water. Not only is the footage super smooth, but very clear with superb HDR. The mics are phenomenal too. Switching between the three cameras is natural and effortless. It's a mighty camera system!
-The screen is superior to the one on the Pixel 2 XL which isn't a surprise as even my S6 Edge Plus had a better OLED than it.

On the software side the Android vs iOS debate is moot as both OS are so similar that neither has any standout deal breaking features unless you value the deep integration of iOS devices.

Overall I'm super happy with the device and think the hardware is exceptionally good.

Pixel 4's biggest threat is a cheaper Pixel 3 and most crucially the iPhone 11 which is arguably one of the best phones you can buy if you are happy to overlook the lack of an OLED. Furthermore the Apple watch is now so cheap that an increasing number of iPhone users will have one. Consider it a golden handcuff because one barrier to switching to Android is giving up the Apple watch!

Im in the same boat as you but having gone from a Pixel 3 XL to S10 Plus to Pixel 3a XL to now having an 11 Pro Max. I agree completely with your list along with a few other comments....

- Battery life is very, very good.
- 100% agree on the weight. Its shocking how heavy this phone is. Its one of the least comfortable phones to use one-handed that I've ever owned.
- Screen is great. Bright, colors are excellent, no complaints at all.
- Picture and video quality is excellent. When it comes to versatility it blows the Pixel out of the water. But Pixel still wins when it comes to moving objects. I still get more blur when trying to snap pictures of my son than when I had my Pixel. But for video, its crazy how much better the iphone is.

Also, coming from android a few software things that stand out...

- iOS does dark mode much better than android. Deeper app integration and more 3rd party apps have auotmatic flags that change when you change system mode to dark.
- Apps and OS just seem a little smoother than on android. Systemwide animations, transitions, and scrolling through apps just feels better.
- iOS notifications are better than before, but still pretty awful compared to android.
- iOS gestures feel much better, but I hate how some 3rd party apps dont support drag from side of screen to go back and still force you to find wherever they put the back arrow.

Im still eager to see what the Pixel 4 brings. But after using the iphone (and seeing reviews of the Note 10 plus), the bar is set pretty high. I no longer am so attached to stock android that im willing to settle for subpar hardware, so the battery life and performance better be top notch or I'll stick with one of the others. Still prefer android to iOS but the gap isnt as big as it used to be.

Good posts about you guys having the 11 Pro Max too, which does look like a great smartphone, mainly the battery life, and smooth fluid OS. My last iPhone was the 7 Plus, and I couldn't get comfortable with iOS compared to Android, but maybe it's better now? That was iOS 10, now they're on iOS 13.

Another slightly off topic thing; Look at how good the OnePlus 7 pro is, and it's $649. And the Pixel 3 XL was like $900. For the price difference, you can almost say the 7 Pro was a better phone, minus the camera and wireless charging of course. But my point, the biggest thing is the OS, the Pixel is Google's homemade darling phone, they created Android, it's their OPERATING SYSTEM, but somehow OnePlus was able to create a OS, in Oxygen, that was smoother more fluid, and have more customization features, while also keeping the price much lower than Google's. OnePlus's OS just works better, smoother, and faster, than Google's very own. For a higher priced more flagship phone, I want to see Google be #1 again, at least over OnePlus for sure.

I want to see Google's Pixel 4 destroy the OnePlus 7t in these categories;

- Smooth fluid OS
- Battery life
- Brighter and sharper better display
- Camera of course
- Fast charging

There's zero reason for Google to let OnePlus beat them in some of these important areas.

I don't have my OP7 Pro anymore so can't test this, but people on the OP forums are not having great experiences with the Android 10 / OOS 10.0 official update that rolled out. People are saying they haven't fixed much from the betas and just labeled it "official release" to get it out the door. Not only that, but with the upcoming 7T and 7T Pro there is just no excuse for lack of wireless charging in 2019 - 2020, for the price they are now charging. I still like OP, but the phone landscape is becoming a two horse race for my money; iPhone and Pixel. Nothing else to me is worth the asking price.

Why can't Google stuff in a HUGE battery for once? Just do it :) At least match the Note 10 Plus 4,300mAh battery. I'm a little worried the 3,700mAh and 90hz display won't be fantastic for battery, probably just ok.

I'm a Nexus / Pixel whore
:)
LOL, but will criticize when I see it, and the Pixel 4 spec's just seem ok, not super great. Interesting, out of all the stock Google phones I've owned over the years, I can't remember really any of them being known for great battery life. Is it vanilla Android just isn't as efficient? Or did all those Nexus and Pixel phones get designed with smaller batteries than they should have?

My idea of a Pixel 4 XL;

- 8GB RAM
- 4,300mAh battery
- Tiny circle punch hole camera like the Note 10, give the Pixel 4 XL all screen, no bezels.
- If they can't fit Face ID in there, then just stick with the rear fingerprint scanner like always, or also have a fingerprint scanner in the display as well
- Ultra wide angle camera
- Optimize stock Android to be on par speed and smoothness as Oxygen

These aren't crazy spec's and totally doable. Plus they charge a premium price for the Pixel more so than the OnePlus does, so it can be done.

While I don't like notches or hole punches, I also don't care anything about Soli. I'd rather have very minimal bezels and an in-screen fingerprint scanner. I don't see myself ever wanting to use my phone with air gestures, so having this large forehad on Pixel 4 feels pointless since it's for a feature I don't care about.

iPhone 11 is very impressive! It looks great, and it has great cameras and great video capabilities. Even as someone who prefers stock Android, Pixel 4 seems as if it will be a failure in comparison to the base model iPhone 11 -- and even Galaxy S10e.

I had sworn I'd never again purchase a Samsung device, but I'm contemplating picking up a used S10e and then wait and see what Google does with Pixel 4a and Pixel 5 next year.

I don't hate the iPhone, I'm actually jealous of the 11 Pro Max in the battery and design department. Apple creates amazing hardware, no question. Huge battery, and thicker phone, thank you. A+ display. Super fast fluid OS. It's just iOS that irks me, I'm too used to stock Android all these years, I find iOS very uncomfortable and jarring for me, plus I have zero other Apple products, no iWatch, no iPad, no MacBook, nothing Apple in my house, so the whole ecosystem is meaningless to me. I'm not against those products, they look great, just not interested in having them. I don't wear watches, and not a tablet fan, and prefer Intel Windows laptops.

I really like the OnePlus 7 Pro as well, but the curved edge screen is a turn off.

Another thing I’ve discovered re: iOS vs Android is that iOS handles 3rd party password managers much much much better. On android I constantly have to force the prompt to pop up whereas on iOS it’s just happens.
