Agree with the overrated-ness of Pixel cameras. The HDR processing is horrendous and irreversible.

No influencer or social media gurus will use Pixel cameras for their posts cause so much grain and post processing.

I also think Google shoots themselves in the foot every year by releasing in October. If they were smart, they would release between June-August. This way you get in after Samsung S series and before iPhone.

So many ppl bought these other devices while being curious about owning a Pixel.
Yeah I agree they could time it a bit better. I’m fine with the camera. Sometimes the processing gets heavy on all these cameras, honestly.

Welp... T-minus 5 days...

Wonder what else they'll announce? Another pixel slate? ?

Negative on the Slate--Google already confirmed they've killed off any future tablet project earlier this year. And after the last Slate, can you blame them?

I think it's been pretty widely confirmed that there will be a sequel to the Pixelbook though.

I thought I heard something about a new pixel book or slate or something.

Meh, I don't know any more, all the incremental updates these days are just blurring together lol

Pixelbook GO. It’s been leaked pretty extensively as well. Comes with different configurations to either make it cheap or premium.

Can anyone remember how long after the Pixel 3 was announced was pre ordering open?
Then was it two weeks later that the Pixels started shipping?

I believe it opened a bit before the presentation was even completed. I remember people placing orders before it was over and others getting upset that they didn't know it was open yet.

I believe you are correct. And I know this has happened before even during Nexus launches. I remember ordering the 5x and 6p during the keynote because I just took an old URL for like the Nexus 5, replaced with 5x or 6p and that page was up (but not showing up on the home page of Google's store). I think I did the same thing for the Pixel 2 or 3 where I just modified the URL and that product's page was live to order from.

I just read that leaked memo from Tim Cuck. PRSI thoughts storming through my head. 🤬

Where are the Pixel 4’s being made and is Google in any way, shape or form required to lick Beijing’s boot?

I’m not sure where Pixels are made, but I have no doubt that there are Chinese parts in the Pixel and in most if not all phones.

Tim Cook is a hypocrite who is only concerned about lining his pockets, which he does fantastically considering how expensive Apple products are now. But if Sundar Pichai was presented with a similar scenario, I think he, too, would side with the Chinese government. But if he were smart, he would take the opposite, more moral approach.

It still really baffles me why Americans continue to buy OnePlus phones. I guess nearly stock Android and 90 Hz >>> human rights, ethics, and privacy (this bit will be unpopular on this sub, but, oh, well)

I'm sure to some extent....any company manufacturing in China has to acquiesce to some extent.
Look at the lengths Apple has gone to keep the peace...

Yep, I ordered with about 30 mins left in the presentation last year. But I would expect preorders to open right after officially.

I am looking. I’m at risk of losing my lunch.

Never mind. PRSI and I can’t think straight

I think most smartphones are predominantly made in China, expect for maybe Samsung. I’m an Apple shareholder but their consistent acquiescence to the Chinese government has my blood boiling—the bottom line isn’t more important, or it shouldn’t be.

Just GTFO of the Chinese market if they can‘t lplay ball with the values an American based company should be holding them to. Apple is talking out of both sides of their mouth—how can we expect to take any of their other ‘commitments’ seriously when they pull this kind of ****?

I was thinking about OnePlus. All I can say about them is they’re not obnoxious in any way that I know of. Huawei was obnoxious with what they were caught doing. OnePlus isn’t putting on any airs. And it’s not like their people are especially complicit in what is going on in HK any more than I’m complicit in whatever the sneaky agencies of my govt. have been up to that I have zero way of controlling or even knowing about.

I do think they have some sort of security snafu in their past. But recent word on them is good.

They’re just selling phones and not trying to make any statements or show us up with the predatory glee of Huawei. At least not in any obvious way I’ve been able to discern. I can respect that.

I’m not anti-Chinese per se. I’m against very specific things that are not appropriate for this thread.

OnePlus phones don’t appeal to me, however.

The Pixel 4 looks promising. It honestly was not on my radar for any kind of imminent purchase. So I haven’t been keeping up with all the leaks. The reports of the battery capacity was a massive turnoff and I have zero clue about Soli. I’m not sure it’s something I want, honestly.

I’ve been a little worried I’ll spaz out waving around at it and end up doing something regrettable. 🤪 But today was a wake up call to stay vigilant and keep evaluating these options.

I am just in such a weird low mood over the whole Tim Cook thing. I was so enthusiastic about my 11 Pro and Apple TV+ shows and all sorts of Apple-y things. And now I just feel so complicit in his Tim Cookiness if I just sit here and don’t come up with an exit strategy of my own. Even if I don’t jump in on a 4, especially after buying two other expensive phones in rapid succession, I at least want to know what it’s all about.

And that’s always fun!

I try to separate the consumer happiness with the politics and just enjoy what I have. Prime example. I’m a big U2 fan, but Bono has pissed me off big time on many occasions. But I don’t let it affect my enjoyment of the music.

My issue is TC is so persistent about rubbing our noses in Apple being political and having a social conscience. Then he does something so contrary. He has been infuriating me for a long time now regarding China. This just pushed my tolerance too far.

Love the white with black trim....

That does look really different, in a fantastic way. This phone is looking pretty nice. I like the coral, probably because I miss my flamingo pink S10+ looks a little.

So, I had popped on over to 9to5Google and they linked to a Canadian Best Buy site where preorders are available. But only for black and white and only 64 gb.

1080p display is on the smaller phone. Battery sizes for both large and small Pixels are sad, as expected. The reviews hopefully will tell a happier story.
