Aren’t you in a position where you can wait a bit & snap up the Pixel cheaper in the new year? Don’t they normally drop the price of these phones around then?
They really should if they don’t. The problem with the Pixel release schedule is they’re competing with the iPhone’s fresh from the oven latest chip while on the Snapdragon 855 that’s been out for a long while already on Samsung and OnePlus.

By the time I’ve tended to pick my last two phones up in late winter, they’ve felt like the old men of the bunch even though each was still a fairly new phone. At least I enjoyed a nice sales discount as well as a decent trade in value on an older phone.

That’s advantageous for me, but probably not ideal for Google.

Edit: I’m not going to change what I wrote, but after reading the Verge article on the Pixel 4, I am going to have to revise my thinking. This phone is definitely going to be greater than the sum of its parts IF they execute like pros this time around. I think one of you already said that a few posts back. Lol I just wasn’t paying close attention before. Damn! 🤯 There are possibly some crazy features coming up.

I use my Note at home mostly so I may put the sim into the Pixel 4 and dual carry with the Pro 11 especially when I’m traveling. This thing is going to be sick! At least until the battery goes dead. 😜.

Because they do now offer a mid range phone I do wonder if the discounts won’t be coming this year.

I may wait to see what the mid range phone is going to have.

From everything I’ve seen, soli is only going to be used for music (skipping, play, pause etc) and for waking the screen. A bit of a gimmick.

If I can use it to scroll throughTwitter while eating breakfast, I'd be happy. But, I still think price may keep me away. Need to wait for a black Friday sale or something similar.

Yeah. Didn’t the Galaxy S4 do all that? Just seems like an odd choice of technology to push where something like improved battery life actually gets people talking.

I’m not sure we’ve seen anything close to the full potential of it realized. There may be some “attention aware” functions it can expand on in conjunction with its Face ID tech beyond what an iPhone can do with Face ID tech alone.

I’m actually not interested in that because I’m already experiencing eye discomfort if the illuminators of my iPhone shine into my face for prolonged periods. But I’m an outlying case, while most people seem fine and will probably welcome what the technology can do.

The high cost of this phone will definitely keep me out of early acquisition opportunities. And enough of the features I would value may trickle down to the mid range model. So I’m not pre ordering unless there’s a hugely generous trade in subsidy for my 3XL. That’s gotten me to move on Samsung preorders that I had originally planned to sit out.

It sounds like a lot of people commenting on the Pixel 4 articles also will not preorder without significant incentives. They feel they got burned last year pre ordering for full price only to see significant discounts a couple of months later.

Google botched just enough different aspects of their past phone releases to induce a detrimental amount of purchase anxiety in their target market.

They deserve that. They were very lackadaisical for such a wealthy big name company with some prior experience marketing phones.

I kind of want to hate this when it is unveiled, even though we basically know all there is to know.

I will definitely be holding on anyway as for me personally, I find more value when buying later. But can’t wait to hear the early adopter thoughts.

It always feels like such a long wait for the Pixel. It’s talked about at the same time as the iPhones, yet the iPhones have been out for weeks now and the Pixel is yet to be officially unveiled.
Then, for the UK at least, it’s ages until it’s in stores. November normally I believe.

One thing I like with Apple is you get the event, days later you preorder, week later you get it.

Don't forget that's only initial uses. I'm sure they'll be plenty more in time. And if it's used for secure face unlock, I wouldn't call that a gimmick.

What do we think the pricing is going to be like especially in the UK?

I may be tempted by the 4XL.. I already have a buyer lined up for my Note10!

Average customer: walks into the store, sees the brand new $1,000 Pixel 4 phone. Looks to his left and see the $699 iPhone 11, $999 iPhone 11 Pro...customer walks out with the $699 iPhone 11, 9 times out of 10.

Google would be foolish to make the P4XL at $999

I agree completely. But, every time Google faces a decision over the last few years, it seems they choose the wrong one. Notch, battery size, ram, price, etc.

With that being said, not many options for stock android and a great camera, so here I am...

That would be a killer IMO. Not that I’m purchasing it until price drops anyway but they just don’t have it packed with enough to justify Note and 11 Pro pricing. As long as battery life is solid, it will still be a great buy around New Years when price drops $200-300.

Because Google doesn't actually care about hardware. The Pixel is just their attempt to make huge profits from their "Nexus" reference phones. All the tech youtubers will still be flocking to it as if it's the best thing since slice bread anyway.

I was in your shoes, the stock android guy. I own most of the Nexus phones until the Nexus 5. And stock Android was great back then when all the OEMs have no clue what they're doing. But today, even cheap Chinese phones with MiUI/ColorOS have features that stock Android doesn't. And the Pixel track record showed that even with stock Android, they can still be buggy as hell. I stopped caring about stock Android, sold my Mi A1, and embrace the real Android on the market. With Google mandating Android 10 by February 2020, I'm not even worried about Android version anymore.

I still think stock is the best implementation of Android but I agree that android skins have evolved a tons since touchwiz and LGs awful UI. I would argue oxygenOS and One UI are on par with stock. They lack a bit in the cohesive design department but the added features make up for it.

Apparently no headphones in the box anymore either. Not that it matters to me because I had Bluetooth headphones, but still. It continues Googles trend of cutting corners.

Part of me wants this phone to fail really really hard to get Google to overreact and make next years Pixel great. I’m fine sticking with the iPhone or getting a Note until next year.

Google could really nail this, yet they are setting themselves up for failure (yet again). They really would have an opportunity to sell a ton of these things if they'd just price them below the iPhone Pro levels (nearer the 11) and not try this whole full price at launch thing then an endless supply of deals. Why not just release it at 699/799 and save all the hassle of the deals and then be able to compete directly with the iPhone 11? I think at 699/799 these things would sell well. At 899/999, not so much. Hopefully the leaks were just placeholders.

For me to buy at that price, they'd have to bundle with the long talked about Pixel Watch. iOS has closed the gaps software wise for things I cared about. The cameras have improved greatly. Add in iMessage, good resale, great warranty options and it makes the Pixel feel like not such an easy choice anymore.

I'm still looking forward to tomorrow as I'm rooting for a surprise or features during the demo that justify the rumored prices.

Yep. My only reason to possibly get the Pixel was the camera. Now that the iPhone closed that gap, I’d just rather have iMessage and access to all my iTunes purchases over the last 15 years. Stock Android is nice, but I just feel no need to ditch what I have now.

For me the whole Pixel user experience is what keeps me coming back to the brand. Stock Android that is tailor made for a device is awesome to say the least.
I am hoping the new features are worth the price too.

Then I think Google might kill it again in the camera department. I mean last years P3 camera is comparable to this years iPhone 11 pro. I am waiting to see what Google does with dual lens on this years models.

Anyway I will pre-order because who am I kidding....I'm and addict :)

All the leaks take the fun out of discovering a new phone. I know there's bound to be some but the last 2 years have been ridiculous where Google are concerned.

Stock Android doesn't bother me, I prefer the options of One UI anyway. It's all about the camera for me with Pixels. I know people are looking forward to seeing what they do with 2 lenses but aside from extra zoom, the only other benefit will be better portrait pics. I don't think the camera will be a massive improvement over the 3. Their improvements usually come from software that filters to previous devices anyway.

Based on camera alone, it's either a Pixel or an iPhone.

Regardless of what camera improvements Samsung make, it looks like they'll always be a little "off" with skin tones/smoothing as sadly that's the way they like to do things. The one thing stopping me from keeping a Samsung for a full 12 months.

I don't even know what my point was but I wrote so much, I'm not deleting it now. lol

I hate the price, but as long as they give a good trade in price for the S10+ I have that is sitting unused, I will likely preorder tomorrow. Very interested to see the improvements they have made, but also worried about battery life.
