Google just can't get the pixel hardware right, so much potential but they screw it up year after year. If you want a phone with a good camera you would be much better served with an iPhone 11 Pro or even a Note 10.

What’s wrong with the hardware? And why would someone buy an iPhone if they prefer Android?

I'm loving this phone. The feel in hand is so good, highest quality build in a Pixel.

Screen looks great, so vivid and crisp.

Performance, this phone is super smooth and fluid.

Only legit beef I may have is battery life, still too early for me to say, seems better then my 3 XL, but they phone got mediocre battery life. Jury's still out.

I do have force 90hz on, it's so flipping smooth with it on, not sure I want to to turn it off and just use Smooth Display setting? I think Smooth Display will be good to use after a few update patches.
Honestly I don’t see the point of 90hz if it’s not on all the time..that’s the main feature of the phone. Don’t see the point switching things off to save battery what’s the point...

Just in case anyone wondered.
I set Face Unlock up without my glasses (I am a lens wearer, but do wear glasses at weekends or when I want to give my eyes a break), and when I have my glasses on, face unlock works perfectly.

So the reports of those misfires with specs may have just been device specific?
I am the same....i wear glasses most of the time but do take them off to watch TV or just for a break. Face Unlock still works every time.....glasses or no glasses.

I really hope more companies adopt this new technology. I would love love a Galaxy Note with this tech.
I hope Apple is watching and next years iphone doesn't require a swipe to get to the home screen.

Yep. As Apple were first with Face ID, they surely won't want someone else getting one up on them.

exactly....I think Google implemented face unlocking tech better than Apple has....just MHO
It definitely is. Just a shame Google didn't give banks plenty of notice to get ready for it. Can't seem to find anything on when it will be supported.

On the whole, battery aside, can't fault the Pixel 4 XL. No idea why some are claiming the hardware is lacking.

Can you have it go to notifications if any are present and if not, go to the home screen? If so, that would be perfect.

it will if you have time to select the notification before Face Unlock unlocks the phone. Problem is face unlock is sooo damn fast you don't have time to select a notification first.....

I think there's an option to have Face Unlock not go directly the home screen, it can be setup just to unlock to the lock screen.

I do have Force 90hz on in Developer Settings. It's too nice not to have running by default.

The small battery and small storage options. These shortcomings are just inexcusable in 2019 on a flagship phone that costs as much as the Pixel 4. Not to mention the screen brightness and lack of a wide angle lens.

So even with 90hz forced on, I'm still getting probably a good 1hr+ better SoT of battery life then my Pixel 3 XL. I'm thinking more like 90 minutes better battery life on my 4 XL, and that's with all the features enabled. If I turned then off, it would be even better.

But 90hz forced is too good not to use.

I have the smaller 3 ( i couldn't with the big notch), so i can't really compare :/ Looks like you also have good battery life off your device.

Today i will be testing with 90hz completely off and see what's the difference between, smooth display turned on, and smooth display forced on.

How bout AoD ( always on display)? Is that a big battery drainer, or not much? I wish there was a way not to see the battery % on the bottom of the screen with AoD enabled.

Not much! I keep that on also. When the phone sits in a dim area the always on display will turn off. But as soon as you approach it the screen will light up again, assuming you have motion sense on.

Those pics, like the food was in that last pic I'm sure, are delicious! I'm happy with my OnePlus 7 Pro in all aspects aside from the camera...

Must resist until there's a price drop! 😁
