Did anyone see that the big four carriers just announced they are all adopting a universal RCS messaging standard which will all work across each carrier. Sounds like great news right? Maybe not. Apparently it’s not Googles Jibe standard and instead will have to use an app that the carriers are providing.

Google has to be furious with this. After yeara of trying to get carriers on board they are being left out and the carriers are doing their own thing. I hope Google finally gets the balls now to say screw the carriers and funnel RCS and messaging through their own servers like Apple with iMessage.

Dang. I got really excited and then saw this. Perhaps having to use another app!? Come on carriers. Just connect to google's jibe and let us use Android messages. But let's hope maybe things change before the roll out. But I am excited for it to finally come.

"The Verge was able to get more details on the situation from CCMI directly. The service will be its own Android app – meaning it won’t use Google Messages. Apparently, this new standard will be compatible with the Universal Profile, but it won’t directly follow it either. CCMI also says it is working with companies such as Google and Samsung to make sure their clients are compatible as well."

I'm not sure why anyone these days would listen to anyone on Youtube. There is not a single unbiased reviewer on Youtube or anywhere else. All these reviewers have their own agenda, and most lean towards an Apple bias anyway. It's plain as day. The alternative section is filled with people coming in talking about how they tried the newest Android phone and because of various issues, or even a single issue, they immediately returned the device and ran back to the iphone. Some even say they didn't even keep the device for a day. lol. Yet the same people have no problem with the iPhone having issues. And they go back to the Apple store looking for fixes and replacements multiple times. But an Android device having issues? Oh that's not allowed. That's an immediate return. It's the same BS over and over. So again, to those who are truly wanting to try something else. The Galaxy S line, Note line, Pixel, One+, etc..., just go out and get it yourself. Make YOUR OWN decision, based of YOUR OWN experience. Don't even bother with posters on here, who may have their own agenda to discourage people, or tech reviewers, who have a blatant bias towards another brand. I'm one of those people who believed the BS about Samsung devices being laggy garbage. No way in hell do I believe that BS anymore. So just go out there, and give it a real go, what ever device it is. Don't bother doing the ridiculous 1 day trial that doesn't do any device justice.

Now some reports are coming out that with refresh rate forced to 90hz the colors get really messed up at low brightness. Reports of really bad black crush and colors being off. Perhaps this is why Google forced the 90hz only above 75%?

Interesting to see what happens over the next couple months with some of the Pixel issues. Which ones can be fixed with software updates vs which are hardware limitations.

One tihng I don't trust YT'ers with, is when they say "I've been using this device for a solid 2 weeks" and they have an Apple watch on their wrists... Lol.

Ok. You mean you've had your phone sent to you to review and you've took some photos and then slung it in a drawer until you had to make your 'THE TRUTH' video.

We need some of us to make a channel. :D

I'd love to do a YouTube channel. Only trouble, I don't like being on video...

I'm heavily leaning towards picking up a Note 10+ over the weekend. Can get an import for just under £700 and a further £50 off on ebay. I don't have 90hz or motion sense switched on. Banking apps haven't been updated and the camera is only marginally better. Common sense tells me to return the Pixel.

Same as me.
Plus it's the equipment needed to make those high end videos.
I watch some very amateur videos sometimes, just to see the difference, and it really is night and day between those and the big 'players'.

The only problems with the big channels for me though, is that they all sit on the fence. And it's only because they want to keep the peace and ensure they don't lose viewers or subscribers.

I get it in a way though. New phone gets released, they don't like it and they say they don't like it, and the fan boys start crying and thumbs downing everything.

Hmm on second thoughts, don't think I'd want the hassle. :p

Kind of why I mentioned a couple pages ago I think most of the reviewers just do it for clicks, get paid, have no intent of keeping the device at all and just returning it or giving away a freebie for more clicks.

There are a few legit YT channels I'll watch but most are in it for the clicks.

I'm still rather cold on this device. :/ But that's been most of them lately. Still could see a potential 4a being discarded. There is not even a leak of one?

Well, I've just ordered a Pixel 4.

My iPhone is on the iPhone upgrade plan, so I will be keeping tight hold of that, but I figured I'd give this a go and sell the Chromebook (when it eventually comes) to reduce the cost. Even if I only get £130 for the CB, it makes the Pixel 4 just over £500 which is the price I would have been waiting for it to go to in the new year anyway.

If it's not up to snuff, I'll return it.

If I like the Pixel, I will keep both devices and swap between as they're both fairly reasonably priced compared to the £1000+ devices out there so that justification tipped me over. :D

The Note 10+ is a fantastic beast! The camera is very capable and even excels at times. It is good with video. But it’s not quite as good a still camera as a Pixel of any kind. Not quite as good with videos as an iPhone. But more than good enough. And at everything else my husband and I have thrown at it so far it’s been steady and a pleasure. My only issue is I am not carrying it on me because it’s big. It’s my home favorite though.

lol I thought about doing a You Tube channel but seeing how women tech reviewers get treated on You Tube—ugh no thanks. Either they’re going to make nasty remarks about what an ugly old bat I am. Or some of the weird ones will creep on me anyway. 😳

And then there’s the matter of timing. I get some of these things too late for a review to matter to most people.

Nah I’ll just keep putting my 2 cents in on the forums.

It’s a shame though. I’ve got a couple of cats who could be YT darlings like Xerxes aka “White Shoes” 😁

Just watched Flossys review on the Pixel 4 and one thing that caught me was how bad the brightness is on the Pixel. On his video, at less than 40% it looked damn near unreadable. When set next to his pro max at 40% brightness it was a huge difference. The Pro Max display is at least twice as bright.

There are some tips here on improving battery life with Pixel 4.

I'll add one tip to the list: Turn off the phone when you aren't using it.

All these reviews fall in line with what was predicted when we saw the specs and watched the release...this is a good phone that performs better than the specs would have you believe but is overpriced and doesnt match up with the other flagships at that price point.

Just a heads up, the pumpkin spiced XL 4 64gb seems to be available if anyone is waiting on it. 128gb still out of stock on Google store

I’m really in a quandary over this device.

I’m really enjoying using it and like how it looks and feels.

Today my son and I have tickets to a football match which will take an hour or so to get to on the train so I would usually read or play some casuals games on the journey.

But, I’m reluctant to take the pixel (XL version) with me as I’m only averaging just over 4 hours screen time and I don’t want to be left anxious about the battery on the way home. Because of this it looks like I’m going to have to swap the sim back into my 11 Pro Max for not only the benefit of knowing the battery will be fine but with the added benefit of the wide angle lens for some photos.

As much as I’m enjoying the phone I’m leaning towards returning it and rebuying when there are some discounts available.

If only the battery was better! (And maybe a wide angle lens but that’s not so important)

This is interesting. The reason for the 90Hz being turned off at lower brightness levels is because there is a noticeable difference in brightness when 90Hz turns on, but only at lower brightness. So you would actually see screen brightness fluctuating as it turns on and off if it was enabled at 50% brightness, for example. This can't be seen at higher brightness levels.

So, those who have had the phone in their hands for a little bit, is it a keeper so far?
For me it is! Had it since Wednesday and im enjoying it. Love the 90hz refresh rate, colors on the display looks real good, love the speakers even if their not front facing, face unlock is awesome, it's blazing fast, faster than my Xs Max! Battery is absolutely not a problem for me i get 7 hours of sot with smooth display on, this is more than enough for me. Plus it charges so quickly. I could go on but i think everyone knows what's new this year.
When i use my pixel 2 xl or pixel 3 and get back to the pixel 4 xl i always got this smile on my face because the upgrade is so worth it for me! I immediately see the difference in performance.
For me it's definitely a keeper and could care less of what reviewers are saying.
