Im not talking about specs though. User experience. The camera user experience on a Pixel without a neural core is not great. Not to mention video recording is very inferior. Gaming will be worse as well. Thats if you compare it to iOS.

If you compare it to other androids, youre probably better off getting a OnePlus 8t at that price. Pixel 5 is pretty much a oneplus nord with a better camera. Hell, at $350, same camera, pretty much same speed, and great battery life, the pixel 4a seems like a much better deal. Paying twice as much for a pixel 5 over a 4a? for what? the 90hz screen and ever so slightly bigger disp? If you dont live in a 5g area, or if you dont really even care about 5g, its hard to justify the pixel 5 over the 4a.
You clearly talked about how the specs of the One Plus "destroy" the Pixel. And the camera experience on the Pixel 5 is perfectly fine.

The Pixels have always been about the camera and user experience and yet you say the opposite. ?

Sorry I wouldnt but a iPhone mini for that price with the 2010 bezels. The front of it is a joke.

2010 bezels?? That's a bit of exaggeration.. right? Maybe it's 2017 outdated bezels, but I don't know about 2010.

I'm very tempted to buy the Pixel 5, coming from my Pixel 4 XL, but every time I put the phone in the cart on the Google site, and ready to press accept, I can't do it yet. It's more of a side grade at best it seems?

My main beefs with my 4 XL;

- FaceID blows, seems so inaccurate. And now with COVID, and wearing a mask FaceID is no good.
- Battery life on my 4 XL is ok at best, I get like 5h to 5.5h SoT, which isn't bad, but for me, I typically do best with a phone that can get me 7h SoT or better.
- Screen brightness, my 4 XL not too good outdoors, it's rather dim.
- Size, with the big forehead it's a rather large phone, it's borderline too large for my tastes, especially the width, you can't one hand use this phone, but I also don't like small phones either, not a fan of tiny phones.

So I'm torn

Perhaps, if you torn. You shouldn't do it.

Maybe the iPhone Mini is aimed at people wanting a cheaper & smaller iPhone? And perhaps the Pixel 5 is aimed at people wanting a great camera at a lower price than you usually find on a Pixel for those on the Android side?

The average consumer doesn't regularly switch platforms.

And I get that... customers don't regularly switch.

But cheaper? smaller? Go with the iPhone SE.. right? Granted it's not as smaller as the 12 Mini, but price wise... it's cheaper. And as far as we know.. the results of the 12 Mini camera is unknown at this point. Both the Pixel 5 and 12 Mini camera could appear similar in results.

Just noticed Pixel 4A 5G and Pixel 5 are very close on paper. I'd rather have 3.5mm and lose 90Hz on the 4A 5G. What other significant differences are there besides 6GB vs 8GB DRAM which probably won't make a big difference with my usage? Screen sizes are close but how's quality, same display supplier or different suppliers?

IDK, for me it's not about the specs. The 4a works just fine and it's quick. It takes pics instantly so don't know what this neutral core delay is about. I don't have a delay.

The 730 chip is nano seconds slower than the higher end ones line the 765 and even the 855. I don't have any issues with things loading slow. And in videos comparing them, sometimes the 730 loads in nano seconds faster.

I'd be very ok with the P5.
I think the 4a is a much better purchase than the 5. it literally costs half the price while not sacrificing much. The neural core slowness happens when you take a picture (that used HDR) and then tap on the picture to view it right away. MKBHD shows it at the end of his pixel 5 video

I was comparing the user experience of a pixel to an iphone 11 or 12 mini. Both are about user experience, and one happens to give you much better specs as well, which provide a better user experience in games, taking pictures, future proofing, etc. Even substantially better speakers which is also part of the user experience.

Man you are jumping around a lot with your argument. You are NOW comparing Android to iOS. It's Apples vs Oranges, no comparison. If you want iOS your only choice is Apple. If you like Android, especially Stock Android then Google's phones are your best option. And i've been reading rumors whether true or false that OxygenOS is going to look more and more like Samsung's OS.

For me the Google experience is as close to perfect as I can get. An iPhone is out of the question for me since I need Google's stock apps.

Your argument regarding better specs doesn't compare either because Apple's hardware specs are tailor made for iOS. Regarding future proofing that doesn't exist because I can damn guarantee you that an Android device will have longer support because the core Apps have been unlinked from the OS upgrade which Apple doesn't do.

I'm running a 6 yr old Nexus 6 and i'm still receiving updates to my core apps. With Apple your device starts to wither as soon as Apple stops support. I'll also take Google Chrome any day over Safari.

Dude I compared it to iOS and also to android phones. I like android, I think google stock android is awesome and previously didnt get the pixel 4xl mainly because of the terrible battery life and lack of display brightness and wide camera.

The core apps argument is true although kinda dumb because it takes maybe 6 years for an iphone to lose core app support. If you plan on having a phone for 1-5 years the immediate software updates and continuous OS upgrades are a definite benefit. Not to mention battery replacement for $80 at any apple store in 20 minutes, and not losing water resistance in the process.

But im not trying to get into an android vs iOS argument.

Yes, the notch is bad, so bad I wouldn't even want to own an iPhone with that. It's noticeable and annoying, plus Apple could have spent the money and time and shrunk it down if they wanted, but they said, nope, why waste money on that, when people will still buy the phone.

Not knocking Apple, just saying it like it is, which is business #1. And Apple is doing something right, they're making billions$ and billions all the time, one of the richest companies on the planet.

Not trying to defend Apple, because having stuck with that 2017 notch seems inexcusable. But it’s a lot of tech inside that notch, it’s no telling why it hasn’t been redefined or revamped.

FaceID is a compelling feature... I absolutely enjoy it on the iPad. I like TouchID and in display Fingerprint scanners, but I prefer FaceID due to the convenience factor.

And if you simply don't like iOS, I'd say affects your user experience. I'm struggling with with the Pixel 5 purely based on it being too small for me, yet I'm to believe my alternative is the even smaller (and a lot smaller) iPhone Mini? Don't think so.

If the new iPad Air has the TouchID on the power button, couldn't we see this in the all iOS devices? Then we wouldn't need the notch.
Clearly Apple want to keep Face ID, hence the need for a notch.

The notch is a design choice not a technological limitation. They could always just have larger bezels that would hide and eliminate the notch.

If Apple decided to add large bezels and eliminate the notch... I would think most tech enthusiasts would criticize them for it.

Its all subjective here... but when I look at the design choice for the Pixel 4/XL, it doesn't look as appealing. That top bezel trying to hide their front camera tech, I don't like how that looks. Back in 2017, I think Apple design choice made the iPhone look unique and it helped them stand out from the competition.

But now, 2020... I do think that Apple needs to try and make changes about the notch. Hopefully iPhone 12s or 13... could be the change we are all asking for.

I imagine the more you use it the more the size will feel normal. Its just a relative thing. I remember when I went back to my s20 after using the Fold 2 for a few days and my 6.7 in phone felt small.
Just going to have to make sure I leave the Note in my drawer. lol
Still going to pick up a 4a 5G. Cheaper, bigger & minimal less battery should suit me better.

You tried and you did.
No, trust me I didn’t. If I wanted to I would go deep and list a ton critical advantages iOS has. And since I’m an app developer I could give detailed information about things most probably don’t know about.

I’m not trying to get into a real argument. Just was saying iPhone 12 mini is a competitor to the Pixel 5, many will switch to it. And that for 699, the Pixel 5 seemed overpriced in the android world.$200 more than the pixel 4a 5g and the only difference is 90hz
